Inert dusts are an early form of insecticide which is still in use. One of the most common inert dusts is volcanic ash. In order to study the reaction ofrangeland grasshoppers, Dichroplus vittigerum （Acrididae） and a katydid, t]wgilis mendosensis （Phaneropteridae）, to the presence of volcanic ash in their food sources and how this reaction changed as a function of time, we conducted paired preference tests between clean leaves of their pre- ferred host plant and leaves exposed to volcanic ash of different grain size. The behavioral response was measured as the rating on the Thurstonian preference scale of leaves with ash in relation to clean leaves. The results showed that the avoidance of volcanic ash increased as a function of time in both species. Both species studied are occasionally exposed to vol- canic activity, and come from an area in which a volcanic eruption had recently occurred. As their populations did not decrease after the ash fall, we propose that some behavioral responses such as avoidance of places with ash, works as tolerance mechanism to inert dusts exposure.

The Admiralty Mountains region forms the northern termination of the northern victoria Land,*** quantitative data are available to reconstruct the Cenozoic morpho-tectonic evolution of this sector of the Antarctic plate,where the Admiralty Mountains region forms the northern termination of the western shoulder of the Mesozoic-Cenozoic West Antarctica Rift *** this study we combine new low-temperature thermochronological data(apatite fission-track and(U-Th-Sm)/He analyses)with structural and topography *** regional pattern of the fission-track ages shows a general tendency to older ages(80-60 Ma)associated with shortened mean track-lengths in the interior,and younger fission-track ages clustering at 38-26 Ma with long mean track-lengths in the coastal *** from other regions of victoria Land,the younger ages are found as far as 50-70 km *** grain apatite(U-Th-Sm)/He ages cluster at 50-30 Ma with younger ages in the coastal *** analysis reveals that the Admiralty Mountains has high local relief,with an area close to the coast,180 km long and 70 km large,having the highest local relief of>2500 *** coincides with the location of the youngest fission-track *** shape of the area with highest local relief matches the shape of a recently detected low velocity zone beneath the northern TAM,indicating that high topography of the Admiralty Mountains region is likely sustained by a mantle thermal *** used the obtained constraints on the amount of removed crustal section to reconstruct back-eroded profiles and calculate the erosional load in order to test flexural uplift *** found that our back-eroded profiles are better reproduced by a constant elastic thickness of intermediate values(Te=20-30 km).This suggests that,beneath the Admiralty Mountains,the elastic properties of the lithosphere are different with respect to other TAM sectors,likely due to a stationary Cenozoic upper mantle thermal an

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of the treatment with Exenatide joint to insulin detemir. The study was carried out with obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) and deficient control, despite intensive insulin therapy combined with oral antidiabetics. A longitudinal study was made with 15 patients controlled by the Endocrinology and Nutrition Section of the Reina Sofía University Hospital, Murcia. These patients were treated with Exenatide joint to insulin during 3, 6 and 12 months. Statistically meaningful differences (p < 0.05) were observed in the reduction of HbA1c in the 3 and 6 months treatment groups (initial HbA1c: 9.55% ± 1.086%, weight: 119.94 kg, insulin requirement: 0.71 IU/kg/day;after 3 months: HbA1c: 7.77% ± 1.164%, weight: 98.13 kg, insulin requirement: 0.59 IU/kg/day;after 6 months: HbA1c: 7.21%, weight: 97.93 kg, insulin requirement: 0.55 IU/kg/day). It was observed that the association of Exenatide and insulin promotes an improvement in several indicators such as weight, body mass index (BMI), systolic pressure (SP), diastolic pressure (DP), triglycerides (TG), cLDL, cHDL and total cholesterol (TC), in patients with diabetes resistant to conventional therapy. However, these improvements were statistically no significant (p < 0.05). It is possible to talk of a reduction of cardiovascular risk factors in patients with Exenatide, being thus a suitable option for this kind of individuals. It is important to emphasize the fact that our study showed bigger body-weight reductions results after 6 and 12 months, as compared to the researches quoted.

Background: Dialyzable leukocyte extracts (DLE) are heterogeneous mixtures of peptides less than 10 kDa in size that are used as immunomodulatory adjuvants in immune-mediated diseases. TransferonTM is DLE manufactured by National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), and is registered by Mexican health-regulatory authorities as an immunomodulatory drug and commercialized nationally. The proposed mechanism of action of TransferonTM is induction of a Th1 immunoregulatory response. Despite that it is widely used, to date there are no reports of adverse events related to the clinical safety of human DLE or TransferonTM. Objective: To assess the safety of TransferonTM in a large group of patients exposed to DLE as adjuvant treatment. Methods: We included in this study 3844 patients from our Clinical Immunology Service at the Unit of External Services and Clinical Research (USEIC), IPN. Analysis was performed from January 2014 to November 2014, searching for clinical adverse events in patients with immune-mediated diseases and treated with TransferonTM as an adjuvant. Results: In this work we observed clinical nonserious adverse events (AE) in 1.9% of patients treated with TransferonTM (MD 1.9, IQR 1.7 - 2.0). AE were 2.8 times more frequently observed in female than in male patients. The most common AE were headache in 15.7%, followed by rash in 11.4%, increased disease-related symptomatology in 10%, rhinorrhea in 7.1%, cough in 5.7%, and fatigue in 5.7% of patients with AE. 63% of adverse event presentation occurred from day 1 to day 4 of treatment with TransferonTM, and mean time resolution of adverse events was 14 days. In 23 cases, the therapy was stopped because of adverse events and no serious adverse events were observed in this study. Conclusion: TransferonTM induced low frequency of nonserious adverse events during adjuvant treatment. Further monitoring is advisable for different age and disease groups of patients.
