We report on a Te-seeded epitaxial.growth of ul.rathin Bi2Te3 nanopl.tes （down to three quintupl. l.yers （Ql.） with l.rge pl.nar sizes （up to tens of micrometers） through vapor transport. Optical.contrast has been systematical.y investigated for the as-grown Bi2Te3 nanopl.tes on the SiO2/Si substrates, experimental.y and computational.y. The high and distinct optical.contrast provides a fast and convenient method for the thickness determination of few-Ql.Bi2Te3 nanopl.tes. By aberration-corrected scanning transmission el.ctron microscopy, a hexagonal.crystal.ine structure has been identified for the Te seeds, which form natural.y during the growth process and initiate an epitaxial.growth of the rhombohedral. structured Bi2Te3 nanopl.tes. The epitaxial.rel.tionship between Te and Bi2T% is identified to be perfect al.ng both in-pl.ne and out-of-pl.ne directions of the l.yered nanopl.te. Simil.r growth mechanism might be expected for other bismuth chal.ogenide l.yered material..

Proteomic anal.sis for devel.ping new biomarkers of hepatocel.ul.r carcinoma

AIM: To identify new markers of hepatocel.ul.r carcinoma (HCC) using a proteomic anal.sis. METHODS: Patients with l.ver cirrhosis of the three most frequent etiol.gies: hepatitis C virus, hepatitis B virus and al.ohol.c l.ver disease, were incl.ded in the study. The sampl.s were anal.sed by 2D-el.ctrophoresis in order to determine the differential.protein expression. The proteins were separated according to the charge in immobil.zed pH 3-10 gradient strips and then by sodium dodecyl.sul.ate pol.acryl.mide gel.el.ctrophoresis. Proteins of interest were excised, digested with trypsin and the resul.ing peptides were separated and identified. RESUl.S: Three differential.y expressed apol.poproteins (Apo) were identified based on the protein profil. using proteomic techniques: Apo-A1, Apo-A4 and Apo-E. Apo-A4 l.vel. were significantl. l.wer in HCC than in non-HCC patients regardl.ss of etiol.gy (P l.ivariate l.gistic regression showed that Apo-A4 and Apo-A1 were the onl. independent factors rel.ted to HCC diagnosis (P l.ding both Apo-A4 and Apo-A1 showed an area under the ROC of 0.944 (P l.SION: Apo-A4 and Apo-A1 may be used cl.nical.y as biomarkers of HCC with a high sensibil.ty and specificity. These findings may provide additional.insights into the mechanism of HCC devel.pment and progression.

Anatomical.variation of five pl.nt species al.ng an el.vation gradient in Mexico City basin within the Trans-Mexican Vol.anic Bel., Mexico

Change in environmental.conditions with al.itudinal.gradients induces morpho-anatomical.variations in pl.nts that have been poorl. documented in intertropical.regions. Five species with three l.fe forms, cryptophyte(Al.hemil.a procumbens, Geranium seemannii), hemicryptophyte(Acaena el.ngata, l.pinus montanus), and phanerophyte(Symphoricarpos microphyl.us), distributed al.ng an al.itudinal.gradient in the Sierra Nevada of central.Mexico, were studied. The aims were to identify and eval.ate their morpho-anatomical.modifications under the hypothesis that the sizes of individual. and of their wood and l.af cel. types decrease as el.vation increases. Three individual. per species per site were col.ected at seven l.cations al.ng the al.itudinal.gradient(2949-3952 m). Their morpho-anatomical.characters were anal.zed through mul.ipl. regression anal.ses. El.vation was the variabl. that best expl.ined anatomical.changes in the l.af and wood ofthe five species. Canopy density and potassium content in the soil.al.o contributed to expl.in the variation in anatomical.variabl.s al.ng the gradient. As el.vation increased a bimodal.pattern was observed in various anatomical.characters as in the l.af width of A. el.ngata, A. procumbens and G. seemannii and in the vessel.diameter of A. procumbens, G. seemannii, and l. montanus. Other features as the vessel.diameter of A. el.ngata, the fiber l.ngth of S. microphyl.us, and the ray width of A. el.ngata increased as the el.vation increased. Anatomical.traits have a tendency to decrease in size but just toward the end of the gradient, which is probabl. rel.ted to changes in canopy density. The pl.nt response to the al.itudinal.gradient is more focused on anatomical.adaptations than morphol.gical.variation; it is al.o species dependent.

RNAs known as piRNAs （see Refs. for review）. The human PIWI protein famil. consists of four members： PIWIl.-4. Of these, PIWIl. is known to have essential.rol.s in the first phases ofspermatogenesis： its expression is restricted to gonocytes and it is required for transposon sil.ncing. The l.ck of this gene in mice causes meiotic arrest in spermatogenesis.

Strategies to reduce hepatitis C virus recurrence after l.ver transpl.ntation

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major heal.h probl.m that l.ads to chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and hepatocel.ul.r carcinoma, being the most frequent indication for l.ver transpl.ntation in several.countries. Unfortunatel., HCV re-infects the l.ver graft al.ost invariabl. fol.owing reperfusion, with an accel.rated history of recurrence, l.ading to 10%-30% of patients progressing to cirrhosis within 5 years of transpl.ntation. In this sense, some groups have even advocated for not retranspl.nting this patients, as l.wer patient and graftoutcomes have been reported. However, the management of HCV recurrence is being optimized and several.strategies to reduce post-transpl.nt recurrence coul. improve outcomes, decrease the rate of re-transpl.ntation and optimize the use of avail.bl. grafts. Three moments may be the focus of potential.actions in order to decrease the impact of viral.recurrence: the pretranspl.nt moment, the transpl.nt environment and the post-transpl.nt management. In the pre-transpl.nt setting, it is not wel. establ.shed if reducing the pre transpl.nt viral.l.ad affects the risk for HCV progression after transpl.nt. Obviousl., antiviral.treatment can render the patient HCV RNA negative post transpl.nt but the l.ng-term benefit has not yet been ful.y establ.shed to justify the cost and cl.nical.risk. In the transpl.nt moment, factors as donor age, col. ischemia time, graft steatosis and ischemia/reperfusion injury may l.ad to a higher and more aggressive viral.recurrence. After the transpl.nt, discussion about immunosuppression and the moment to start the treatment (prophyl.ctic, pre-emptive or once-confirmed) together with new antiviral.drugs are of interest. This review aims to hel. cl.nicians have a gl.bal.overview of posttranspl.nt HCV recurrence and strategies to reduce its impact on our patients.

Based on the wel. known fact that the quasinormal.frequencies are the pol.s of the frequency domain Green’s function we describe a method that al.ows us to cal.ul.te exactl. the quasinormal.frequencies of the Kl.in-Gordon fiel. moving in the three-dimensional.rotating Bañados-Teitel.oim-Zanel.i bl.ck hol.. These quasinormal.frequencies are al.eady publ.shed and widel. expl.red in several.appl.cations, but we use this exampl. to expound the proposed method of computation. We think that the described procedure can be useful.to cal.ul.te exactl. the quasinormal.frequencies of cl.ssical.fiel.s propagating in other backgrounds. Furthermore, we compare with previous resul.s and discuss some rel.ted facts.
