Comparison of PM_(10) concentrations and metal content in three different sites of the venice Lagoon: An analysis of possible aerosol sources

The venice Lagoon is exposed to atmospheric pollutants from industrial activities, thermoelectric power plants, petrochemical plants, incinerator, domestic heating, ship traffic, glass factories and vehicular emissions on the mainland. In 2005, construction began on the mobile dams （MOSE）, one dam for each channel connecting the lagoon to the Adriatic Sea as a barrier against high tide. These construction works could represent an additional source of pollutants. PM10 samples were taken on random days between 2007 and 2010 at three different sites： Punta Sabbioni, Chioggia and Malamocco, located near the respective dam construction worksites. Chemical analyses of v, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Mo, Cd, Sb, T1 and Pb in PM10 samples were performed by Inductively coupled plasma- quadrupole mass spectrometry （ICP-QMS） and results were used to identify the main aerosol sources. The correlation of measured data with meteorology, and source apportionment, failed to highlight a contribution specifically associated to the emissions of the MOSE construction works. The comparison of the measurements at the three sites showed a substantial homogeneity of metal concentrations in the area. Source apportionment with principal component analysis （PCA） and positive matrix factorization （PMF） showed that a four principal factors model could describe the sources of metals in PM10. Three of them were assigned to specific sources in the area and one was characterised as a source of mixed origin （anthropogenic and crustal）. A specific anthropogenic source of PM10 rich in Ni and Cr, active at the Chioggia site, was also identified.

Self-healable and Robust Film Based on Electroactive Polymer Brush as Electrode for Flexible Supercapacitor

The aim of this study was to develop self-healable and robust elect roconductive film based on polyaniline copolymer for application as electrode in flexible *** this purpose,the electroconductive polymer brushes(EPB)was *** synthesis of EPB is based on graft polymerizations of acrylamide(AAm)on poly(vinyl alcohol)(PvA)with formation of PvA-PAAm polymer brush and subsequent graft copolymerization of aniline and p-phenylenediamine on PvA-PAAm resulting in formation of EPB with electroconducting copoly(aniline-co-pphenylenediamine)(PAPh DA).It was found that the ratio between PvA and PAAm at the first stage greatly influence the electrochemical performance of the *** films were prepared by casting of EPB solution with subsequent *** of electrical current distribution through the film with AFM reveal more uniform distribution of PAPhDA in EPB in comparison with reference PvA-PAPhDA and PAAm-PAPhDA *** was demonstrated that mechanical cha racteristics and electrical conductivity values of films restore at large extent after curring and self-healing under optimal relative humidity level(58%).The flexile supercapacitor cell with EPB film electrodes demon strate specific capacitance 602 mF·cm^(-2)at the current density of 1 mA·cm^(-2)and retention 94%of initial capacitance after 5000 charge/discharge cycles.

vedolizumab for inflammatory bowel disease:from randomized controlled trials to real-life evidence

The biologic antitumor necrosis factor alpha(anti-TNFα) agents have revolutionised the treatment of inflammatorybowel disease(IBD). However,some patients experience primary nonresponse,loss of response,or intolerance. Therefore,introducing a newer class of therapy with a mechanism of action that acts on different inflammatory pathways involved in IBD pathogenesis is appealing. vedolizumab is a fully humanised monoclonal antibody that selectively targets α4β7 integrin. Based on the results of the pivotal clinical GEMINI trials,vedolizumab was approved for the treatment of adult patients with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis(UC) and Crohn's disease(CD) refractory or intolerant to either conventional therapy or TNFα inhibitors. This review describes the efficacy,safety,and tolerability of vedolizumab reported in both randomized,controlled,clinical trials and from real-world experience in patients with UC and CD in order to identify its place in treatment algorithms for IBD.

AIM:To ascertain the role of cardiovascular risk factors,cardiovascular diseases,standard treatments and other diseases in the development of ischemic colitis(IC).METHODS:A retrospective,case-control study was designed,using matched data and covering 161 incident cases of IC who required admission to our hospital from 1998 through *** was diagnosed on the basis of endoscopic findings and diagnostic or compatible *** were randomly chosen from a cohort of patients who were admitted in the same period and required a colonoscopy,excluding those with diagnosis of *** were matched with controls(ratio 1:2),by age and sex.A conditional logistic regression was ***:A total of 483 patients(161 cases,322 con-trols)were included;mean age 75.67±10.03 years,55.9%*** principal indications for colonos-copy in the control group were lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage(35.4%),anemia(33.9%),abdominal pain(19.9%)and diarrhea(9.6%).The endoscopic findings in this group were hemorrhoids(25.5%),diverticular disease(30.4%),polyps(19.9%)and colorectal cancer(10.2%).The following variables were associated with IC in the univariate analysis:arterial hypertension(P= 0.033);dyslipidemia(Pve drugs(P=0.023);angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors;(P=0.018);calcium channel antagonists(P=0.028);and acetylsalicylic acid(ASA)(Pvariables were independently associated with the development of IC:diabetes mellitus[odds ratio(OR)1.76,95%confidence interval(CI):1.001-3.077,P=0.046];dyslipidemia(OR 2.12,95%CI:1.26-3.57,P=0.004);heart failure(OR 3.17,95%CI:1.31-7.68,P=0.01);peripheral arterial disease(OR 4.1,95%CI:1.32-12.72,P=0.015);treatment with digoxin(digitalis)(OR 0.27,95%CI:0.084-0.857,P=0.026);and ASA(OR 1.97,95%CI:1.16-3.36,P=0.012).CONCLUSION:The development of an episode of IC was independently associat

Peroxynitrite is a highly reactive nitrogen species and a potent inducer of apoptosis and necrosis in somatic cells. Peroxynitrite-induced nitrosative stress has emerged as a major cause of impaired sperm function; however, its ability to trigger cell death has not been described in human spermatozoa. The objective here was to characterize biochemical and morphological features of cell death induced by peroxynitrite-mediated nitrosative stress in human spermatozoa. For this, spermatozoa were incubated with and without （untreated control） 3-morpholinosydnonimine （SIN-l）, in order to generate peroxynitrite. Sperm viability, mitochondrial permeability transition （MPT）, externalization of phosphatidylserine, DNA oxidation and fragmentation, caspase activation, tyrosine nitration, and sperm ultrastructure were analyzed. The results showed that at 24 h of incubation with SIN-l, the sperm viability was significantly reduced compared to untreated control （P〈 0.001）. Furthermore, the MPT was induced （P〈 0.01） and increment in DNA oxidation （P 〈 0.01）, DNA fragmentation （P 〈 0.01）, tyrosine nitration （P 〈 0.0001） and ultrastructural damage were observed when compared to untreated control. Caspase activation was not evidenced, and although phosphatidylserine externalization increased compared to untreated control （P 〈 0.001）, this process was observed in 〈10% of the cells and the gradual loss of viability was not characterized by an important increase in this parameter. In conclusion, peroxynitrite-mediated nitrosative stress induces the regulated variant of cell death known as MPT-driven necrosis in human spermatozoa. This study provides a new insight into the pathophysiology of nitrosative stress in human spermatozoa and opens up a new focus for developing specific therapeutic strategies to better preserve sperm viability or to avoid cell death.

Evidence for polarization-induced phase transformations and degradation in CH_(3)NH_(3)PbI_(3)

In solar cells,hybrid halide perovskites operate under constant bias,thus their stability towards electric field-induced degradation is of key *** we report on evidence of previously unidentified electric field-induced transitions and degradation path of CH_(3)NH_(3)PbI_(3)(MAPbI_(3))using elemental and phase *** films of MAPbI_(3) were deposited onto 1-2μm-pitch interdigitated electrodes and subjected to direct current(DC)-*** MAPbI_(3) layer polarized withv/μm DC electric field undergoes pronounced ion redistribution to methylammonium-rich MAPbI_(3)-y(yvokes degradation of MAPbI_(3).Using nanofocus grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering(GIWAXS),we unambiguously showed that the bias voltage induces the transformation ofβ-MAPbI_(3) to metastableδ-MAPbI_(3) polymorph via alignment of polar organic cation with the electric *** transformation is partially reversible upon field ***,once formed,δ-MAPbI_(3) disrupts the morphology of pristine film and undergoes decomposition toβ-MAPbI_(3)(β-MAPI)and PbI_(2).With the aforementioned compositional and phase changes,only MA-rich part serves as the charge separation layer,while the I-rich excitation is blocked with the PbI_(2) barrier serving as holes trapping *** observations reveal the intermediate steps in electric-field-driven degradation of halide perovskites and show the role of polar cations in the process,which is instructive for further material design with higher stability metrics.

In experiments on newbom rats with stress related intracrani al hemorhage(ICH)using Doppler optical coberence tomognaphy(DOCT)we have shown that latent stage of ICH(4 h after stress)is characterized by decrease of venous blood outflow and the loss of sensitivity of sagittal vein to vasoconstrictor ffect of *** incidence of ICH(24 h after stress)was accompanied by progressi on of early pathological changes in cerebral venous blood flow(CvBF)and development of venous *** into consideration of this fact,we suggest that the suppression of CvBF related to the severity to the deleterious effect of stress on the brain hemodynamics in newborn *** facts allow us to conclude that the venous insufficiency with the loss of vasoconstrictor response to adrenaline is an informative and sensitive component of pattern of CvBF that can be important diagnostic criteria of risk of ICH development in newborns.

Photodynamic inactivation of microorganisms known as antibacterial photodynamic therapy(APDT)is one of the most promising and innovative approaches for the destruction of pathogenic *** the photosensitizers(PSs),compounds based on cationic porphyrins/metalloporphyrins are most successfully used to inactivate *** of meso-substituted cationic pyridylporphyrins and metalloporphyrins with various peripheral groups in the third and fourth positions of the pyrrole ring have been synthesized in *** aim of this work was to determine and test the most e®ective cationic porphyrins and metalloporphyrins with high photoactivity against Gram negative and Gram positive *** was shown that the synthesized cationic pyridylporphyrins/metalloporphyrins exhibit a high degree of phototoxicity towards both types of bacteria,including the methicillinresistant *** *** complexes of porphyrins are more phototoxic than metal-free porphyrin *** e®ectiveness of these Zn–metalloporphyrins on bacteria is consistent with the level of singlet oxygen *** was found that the high antibacterial activity of the studied cationic porphyrins/metalloporphyrins depends on four factors:the presence in the porphyrin macrocycle of a positive charge(+4),a central metal atom(Zn2þÞand hydrophobic peripheral functional groups as well as high values of quantum yields of singlet *** results indicate that meso-substituted cationic pyridylporphyrins/metalloporphyrins cannd wider application in photoinactivation of bacteria than anionic or neutral PSs usually used in APDT.

The paper extends basic Einstein–Hilbert action by incorporating an invariant derived from a specific contraction between the Einstein tensor and energy momentum *** represents a non–minimal coupling between the space–time geometry and matter *** fundamental Einstein–Hilbert action is extended by considering a generic function f(R,GμνTμν).This function is subsequently dissected into its primary components:a geometric part reliant on the scalar curvature,and another segment encapsulating the interaction between geometry and matter *** cosmological models are formulated at the backdrop of these dynamics,rooted in specific associations between the matter energy-momentum tensor and Einstein *** deriving the consequent field equations,the cosmological model's physical implications are explored through a dynamical system analysis applied to diverse coupling *** exploration reveals that the current model aligns with various phases in the Universe's evolution,potentially elucidating several late-time historical epochs.
