HIV screening and retention in care in people who use drugs in Madrid, Spain: a prospective study

Background::The burden of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)infection in people who use drugs(PWUD)is *** aimed to screen HIV infection among PWUD and describe their retention in HIV ***,we also screen for hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection among HIV-seropositive PWUD and describe their linkage to ***::We conducted a prospective study in 529 PWUD who visited the"Ca?ada Real Galiana"(Madrid,Spain).The study period was from June 1,2017,to May 31,*** diagnosis was performed with a rapid antibody screening test at the point-of-care(POC)and HCV diagnosis with immunoassay and PCR tests on dried blood spot(DBS)in a central *** PWUD were referred to the *** used the Chi-square or Fisher’s exact tests,as appropriate,to compare rates between ***::Thirty-five(6.6%)participants were positive HIV antibodies,but 34 reported previous HIV diagnoses,and 27(76%)had prior antiretroviral *** patients with a positive HIV antibody test,we also found a higher prevalence of homeless(P<0.001)and injection drug use(PWID)(P<0.001),and more decades of drug use(P=0.002).All participants received HIV test results at the *** the 35 HIV positives,28(80%)were retained in HIV medical care at the end of the HIV screening study(2018),and only 22(62.9%)at the end of ***,12/35(34.3%)were positive for the HCV RNA *** the latter,10/12(83.3%)were contacted to deliver the HCV results test(delivery time of 19 days),5/12(41.7%)had an appointment and were attended at the hospital and started HCV therapy,and only 4/12(33.3%)cleared ***::We found almost no new HIV-infected PWUD,but their cascade of HIV care was low and remains a challenge in this population at *** high frequency of active hepatitis C in HIV-infected PWUD reflects the need for HCV screening and reinforcing the link to care.

This research was designed to analyze the possible associations of Arg389 Gly ADRB1 and Trp64 Arg ADRB3polymorphisms in children with obesity.A cross-sectional study included 1,046 school-age Mexican participants（6-12 years old） from the cities of San Luis Potosi and *** were classified as non-obese or obese according to their body mass index（BMI） percentile;obese children had a BMI≥95th percentile for sex and *** data were *** were detected using TaqMan qPCR assay.A logistic regression analysis was used to calculate the risk of obesity based on *** were found between groups where obese children had a significant increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure,fasting plasma glucose,insulin,HOMAIR,LDL-cholesterol,triglycerides,and lower HDL-cholesterol compared with the normal weight group（P 〈 0.05）.The distribution of allele frequency in the population was Arg = 87.4 and Gly = 12.6（Hardy Weinberg equilibrium x^2= 3.16,P = 0.07）;Trp = 81.5 and Arg= 18.5（Hardy Weinberg equilibrium x^2 = 2.2,P = 0.14） for ADRB1 and ADRB3,*** though no different frequencies of Arg389 Gly polymoiphism between groups were found（P = 0.08）,children carriers of one Gly389,ADRB1 allele had a risk for obesity of OR = 1.40（95%CI,1.03-1.90,P =0.03） after adjustment for age and *** other association was found for Trp64 Arg ADRB3 *** the Arg389 Gly ADRB1 polymorphism was associated with risk for obesity in Mexican children.

Bone infections following open bone fracture or implant surgery remain a challenge in the orthopedics *** order to avoid high doses of systemic drug administration,optimized local antibiotic release from scaffolds is required.3D additive manufactured(AM)scaffolds made with biodegradable polymers are ideal to support bone healing in non-union scenarios and can be given antimicrobial properties by the incorporation of *** this study,ciprofloxacin and gentamicin intercalated in the interlamellar spaces of magnesium aluminum layered double hydroxides(MgAl)andα-zirconium phosphates(ZrP),respectively,are dispersed within a thermoplastic polymer by melt compounding and subsequently processed via high temperature melt extrusion AM(~190◦C)into 3D *** inorganic fillers enable a sustained antibiotics release through the polymer matrix,controlled by antibiotics counterions exchange or pH ***,both antibiotics retain their functionality after the manufacturing process at high temperatures,as verified by their activity against both Gram+and Gram-bacterial ***,scaffolds loaded with filler-antibiotic do not impair human mesenchymal stromal cells osteogenic differentiation,allowing matrix mineralization and the expression of relevant osteogenic ***,these results suggest the possibility of fabricating dual functionality 3D scaffolds via high temperature melt extrusion for bone regeneration and infection prevention.

Since 2010,the population of Puerto Rico has declined by 11.8%and is currently 3.3 million peo-ple[1].This worrisome trend is a result of a pleth-ora of island-wide challenges spanning financial difficulties,natural disasters,and *** over a decade of economic hardship and debt,incapacitating hurricanes,Irma and maria,destroyed large swaths of the island in *** still recovering from that disaster,a magnitude 6.4 earthquake centered about 5 miles off the south-western coast on January 7,2020,destroying build-ings and roads in southwestern Puerto *** event,and subsequent aftershocks that continue until today,further aggravate an already stressed *** the mix,viral epidemics have brought fur-ther economic,social,and health-related *** Rico was the centre of the 2016-2017 Zika virus infections,representing over 85%of the US infections in 2016[2].

Proposed Relief Map of the Suitability of the Maranhão River Basin, Brazil, for Anthropogenic Use

In this paper, we proposed a method for mapping the suitability of land for intensive anthropogenic use in the Maranhao River Basin, in the state of Goiás, Brazil. We analyzed existing 1:250,000 maps of the local geology, drainage system topography and geomorphological features. We generated new information based on our analysis, including a compilation of basic morphometric data and a map of the slopes in the basin, which we used to construct the geomorphological suitability map of the watershed. Our results indicate that 40% of the study area can support intensive anthropogenic use;the remaining 60% of the basin area is categorized as “fragile” regarding the expansion of intensive land use.

In the last decades we have witnessed a significant increase in the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and obesity in parallel. So 90% of patients with Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2) are obese. Changes in lifestyle (diet and exercise), behavioral therapies or the use of certain anti-obesity drugs have shown a limited effect and are not maintained over time. Currently, bariatric surgery is the most effective anti-obesity treatment, which is durable and resolves associated comorbidities. The surgical treatment of obesity for the modification of the anatomy of the digestive system is to produce gastric capacity constraints alone or associate with varying degrees of intestinal malabsorption and reduce body weight, improve and maintain the comorbidities associated weight loss by reduced food intake alone or in combination with malabsorption of this. The development of these surgical techniques has occurred in stages. With these techniques, setting to bariatric surgery is an effective, safe and proven procedure for the treatment of obesity and its complications especially DM2, as their post surgery referral mechanisms provide us with information for potential therapeutic treatment aimed at optimizing the control DM2 patients metabolic obese. In this review, we expose the evidence in treatment of DM2 with bariatric surgery and the actual hypothesis trying to explain how it is possible.

This study aims to assess the implementation of the Health, Aging and Quality of Life. The specific objectives were executed by conducting activities with the elderly through generative themes with an emphasis on health, aging and quality of life;evaluation of the experience of older people in Unity Family Health with Popular Education;analyzing the evolution of indicators of health and quality of life of elderly patients after two years and ascertaining the effectiveness of Popular Education in the elderly group in the Family Health Unit. This is an exploratory study approved by the Ethics and Research Committee UFPB/CCS, number 0598/08 held on Primary Health Care. The project consists of two lines of integrated activities: Group Active Ageing (GEA), which brings together seniors for addressing issues related to healthy aging and the Multidimensional Health Assessment and Quality of Life through the WHOQOL-BREF. The activities were built in fortnightly meetings from the dialogue where experiences are shared and collective needs. Thus, relevant topics were suggested for the group: guidelines on physical activity, nutrition, chronic disease prevention, self-esteem, among others, and group dynamics as body stretching, stretching exercises, respiratory, metabolic and relaxation. The observed results are the very satisfactions group, reported through testimonies and translated by the enthusiasm and diligence in participation. This project promoted a better bio-psycho-social development of the elderly, reinforcing its identity by promoting and facilitating the expression of their potential positive and arousing them to a better future life prospects and community socialization feelings.

Mechanical Properties of Composite Mortars Using Flurogypsum and PVC Particles

The present work describes the viability of a mortar binder based on two industrial by-products: poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) particles from scrap and anhydrite (CaSO4) from fluorgypsum. Mortar composites were made incorporating different amounts of PVC particles and cured at constant room temperature during various periods of time. From X-ray diffraction, it was possible to follow the hydration process and to estimate the effect of the PVC particles on anhydrite transformation to gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O). Compressive strength from uniaxial testing was measured from stress-strain curves carried out at room temperature. According to these results, the hydration rates of the composites depend on the concentration of PVC particles and there is an enhancement in their compressive strength as particle content increases, reaching values of 36 MPa after 28 days.

Pleiotropic Effects of GLP-1. Cardiovascular Evidence of Effectiveness

Patients with diabetes are characterized by the development of cardiovascular complications: nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, ischemia or hypertensive etc. Therefore, the cardiovascular involvement is the leading cause of death in patients with Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2). Despite intensive treatment on classical factors of cardiovascular disease (blood pressure levels, LDL cholesterol, etc.), patients with diabetes have a high number of cardiovascular events and the onset and prognosis of these are related to glycemic control parameters, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c). On the other hand, the question of the cardiovascular protective effect of some hypoglycemic treatments has been raised, asking what he has done to know more accurately about the safety and cardiovascular effects of the treatments we have today. The two most important incretin hormones are GIP (gastric inhibitory polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). Treatment based on GLP-1 is a novel weapon in T2DM that achieves a reduction in HbA1c with other metabolic effects: weight loss and extra effect in dyslipidemia and blood pressure. In the last years other beneficial actions such a protector effect against myocardium ischemia and other actions in basals were reported. In this article we will try to explain the evidence of GLP-1 treatments and its cardiovascular effects.
