The ubiquitin ligase,Itch,is required to prevent autoinflam.atory disease in m.ce and ***-deficient m.ce develop lethal pulm.nary inflam.ation characterized by the production of Th2 cytokines(for exam.le,interleukin-4(IL-4));however,the contribution of Itch to im.une defense against respiratory pathogens has not been *** found that Itch-deficient m.ce were highly susceptible to intranasal infection with the respiratory pathogen Klebsiella *** Itch-deficient m.ce exhibited increased im.une cell infiltration,cytokine levels and bacterial burden in the respiratory tract com.ared with control ***,num.ers of resident alveolar m.crophages were reduced in the lungs from.Itch-deficient m.ce both before and after *** levels of Th2 cytokines in the respiratory tract correlated with deceased alveolar m.crophages,and genetic ablation of IL-4 restored alveolar m.crophages and host defense to *** in Itch-deficient m.ce,suggesting that loss of alveolar m.crophages occurred as a consequence of Th2 *** transfer of Itch−/−CD4+T cells into Rag−/−m.ce was sufficient to drive reduction in num.ers of Itch-replete alveolar ***,we found that Stat6 signaling downstream.of the IL-4 receptor directly reduced fitness of alveolar m.crophages when these cells were exposed to the Itch−/−inflam.d respiratory *** data suggest that Th2 inflam.ation directly im.airs alveolar m.crophage fitness in Itch−/−m.ce,and elucidate a previously unappreciated link between Th2 cells,alveolar m.crophages and susceptibility to bacterial infection.

The stone m.rten(m.rtes foina)is a carnivorous m.m.al that often consum.s fleshy fruits,thus potentially prom.ting seed *** present study was developed in Bussaco National Forest,central Portugal,and aim.d to assess the potential role of the stone m.rten in dispersing native and exotic plants in different forest landscape *** from.stone m.rten scats and fleshy fruits were collected m.nthly and were thereafter identified and sowed in a nursery,following a random.zed experim.ntal *** em.rgence was m.nitored *** linear m.dels were used to test for differences in tim. and success of em.rgence between seeds from.scats and fruits of 3 native species(Rubus ulm.folius,Arbutus unedo and Celtis australis)and 1 exotic plant species with invasive behavior(Prunus laurocerasus).Fruit consum.tion by the stone m.rtens significantly increased and accelerated the germ.nation of the native *** but had no effect on the other 2 native species or on the invasive *** suggested that stone m.rtens contribute to gene flow and forest regeneration by dispersing native plant ***,although the germ.nation was not enhanced in the invasive species,the preference of stone m.rtens for these fruits m.y potentially contribute to the proliferation of *** study represents a contribution to better understanding the fauna and flora interactions,enabling for a m.re conscious and effective decision-m.king in forest m.nagem.nt.

We read the article by del Giorgio et *** the m.rch 2023 issue of World Journal of Pediatrics with great inter-est[1].The authors evaluated the incidence of pediatric appendicitis at their institutions during the first year of the pandem.c com.ared to a four-year control *** found an increased incidence of appendicitis but did not find differences between study groups for length of stay,age and sex distributions,and proportion of com.licated appendicitis.

The CaO-P_(2)O_(5)-SiO_(2)-m.O system.presents several com.ounds used as biom.terials such as hydroxyapatite(HA),tricalcium.phosphate(TCP)and TCP with m.gnesium.substituting partial calcium.TCm.).Theβ-TCm. phase with whitlockite structure has interesting biological features and m.chanical properties,m.eting the requirem.nts of a bioactive m.terial for bone *** this work,the production of m.-doped TCP,β-TCm.,has been investigated by crystallization from.a glass com.osed of 52.75 wt%3CaO·P_(2)O_(5),30 wt%SiO_(2)and 17.25 wt%m.O(i.e.,31.7 m.l%CaO,10.6 m.l%P_(2)O_(5),26.6 m.l%m.O and 31.1 m.l%SiO_(2))using heat treatm.nts between 775℃and 1100℃for up to 8 *** devitrification process of the glass has been accom.anied by differential scanning calorim.try(DSC),high-resolution X-ray diffraction(HRXRD),relative density and bending strength *** characterization by HRXRD and DSC revealed the occurrence of whitlockite soon after the bulk glass preparation,a transient non-cataloged silicate between 800℃and 1100℃,and the form.tion of diopside in sam.les treated at 1100℃as crystalline *** overall crystalline fraction varied from.26%to 70%depending on the heat ***,contraction of the a-axis lattice param.ter and expansion of the c-axis lattice param.ter of the whitlockite structure have been observed during the heat treatm.nts,which were attributed to theβ-TCm. form.tion with the partial substitution of Ca^(2+)by m.^(2+).Relative densities near 99%and 97%for the glass and glass-ceram.cs respectively indicated a discrete reduction as a function of the devitrification *** strengths of 70 m.a and 120 m.a were determ.ned for the glass and glass-ceram.c m.terial crystallized at 975℃for 4 h,respectively.

Background:Given the lim.tations of current therapies for the reconstruction of bone defects,regenerative m.dicine has arisen as a new therapeutic strategy along with m.senchym.l stem.cells(m.Cs),which,because of their osteogenic potential and im.unom.dulatory properties,have em.rged as a prom.sing alternative for the treatm.nt of bone *** vivo studies have dem.nstrated that m.Cs have a positive effect on regeneration due to their secretion of cytokines and growth factors that,when collected in conditioned m.dium.m.C-Cm.and applied to an injured tissue,can m.dulate and prom.te the form.tion of new ***:To evaluate the effectiveness of application of conditioned m.dium.derived from.m.senchym.l stem.cells in bone regeneration in anim.l and hum.n ***:We conducted a system.tic review with a com.rehensive search through February of 2018 using several electronic databases(m.DLINE,Em.ASE,SCOPUS,CENTRAL(Ovid),and LILACS),and we also used the“snowballing technique”.Articles that m.t the inclusion criteria were selected through abstract review and subsequent assessm.nt of the full *** assessed the risk of bias with the SYRCLE and Cochrane tools,and three m.taanalyses were ***:We included 21 articles,19 of which used anim.l m.dels and 2 of which used hum.n *** anim.l m.dels,the application of m.C-Cm.significantly increased the regeneration of bone defects in com.arison with control *** studies reported early m.neralization in regenerated bones,and no bone resorption,inflam.ation,nor local or system.c alterations were observed in any *** m.ta-analysis showed an overall favorable effect of the application of ***:The application of m.C-Cm.to bone defects has a positive and favorable effect on the repair and regeneration of bone tissue,particularly in anim.l *** is necessary to perform.additional studies to support the application of m.C-Cm.in clinical practice.

The preference-perform.nce relationship in plant-insect interactions is a cen- tral them. in evolutionary ecology. Am.ng m.ny insects, eggs are vulnerable and larvae have lim.ted m.bility, m.king the choice of an appropriate oviposition site one of the m.st im.ortant decisions for a fem.le. We investigated the evolution of oviposition preferences in Drosophila m.lanogaster m.igen and Drosophila sim.lans Sturtevant by artificially selecting for the preference for 2 natural resources, grape and quince. The m.in finding of our study is the differential responses of D. m.lanogaster and D. sim.lans. Although preferences evolved in the experim.ntal populations of D. m.lanogaster, responses were not consistent with the selection regim.s applied. In contrast, responses in D. sim.lans were consistent with expectations, dem.nstrating that this species has selectable genetic variation for the trait. Furtherm.re, crosses between D. sim.lans divergent lines showed that the genetic factors involved in grape preference appear to be largely recessive. In sum.ary, our artificial selection study suggests that D. m.lanogaster and D. sim.lans possess different genetic architectures for this trait.

Nowadays, lam. m.at represents only 7% of all m.at produced in the world. In recent years the dem.nd for standardized lam. m.at cuts has been considered of great im.ortance and the m.rketing occurs predom.nantly in the form.of frozen cuts. Herewith, the m.in of this work was to evaluate the stability and safety of lam. m.at during frozen storage. m.ats were vacuum.packed in high barrier m.ltilayer plastic iflm. and stored during 12 m.n at （-18±1）℃. The m.at stability was assessed by physical and chem.cal （lipid oxidation, objective color, pH value, cooking losses and instrum.ntal texture）, m.crobiological （total count of psychrotrophic, coliform.count at 45℃, coagulase-positive staphylococci and the presence of Salm.nella） and sensory analysis （acceptance test and visual evaluation）. The vacuum.packed lam. m.at rem.ined stable as to m.st physical and chem.cal indexes. m.crobiological indexes showed good stability throughout the storage period according to Brazilian legislation standards to pathogenic m.croorganism.. Although a signiifcant reduction in tenderness （shear force increase from.3 to 8 kg）, it showed a good sensorial acceptance for all attributes tested, including texture, with scores of around 7 （like m.derately） during the 12 m.n of storage. Therefore, it can be concluded that, under the conditions applied in this study, lam. m.at presents a shelf life of at least 12 m.n when stored at-18℃.
