Cables and wires, which are essential parts of equipm.nt for the transm.ssion of both inform.tion and electricity, contain valuable m.terials including copper (Cu) and alum.num.(Al). This experim.ntal work evaluates the use of m.chanical processing (grinding and sieving), followed by spouted bed elutriation, for separation of the valuable m.terials (steel-coated copper, copper, and alum.num. present in waste coaxial and internet cables. A recovery efficiency of approxim.tely 90% was achieved for the steel-coated copper in coaxial cables. For in ternet cables, the copper recovery efficiency was approxim.tely 87%. These findings dem.on strate that it is possible to separate, recover, and recycle the valuable m.terials (m.tals) present in waste cables using sim.le, low-cost, and efficient m.chanical processing followed by spouted bed elutriation.

The Arabidopsis XBAT35 is one of five structurally related ankyrin repeat-containing Really Interesting New Gene （RING） E3 ligases involved in ubiquitin-m.diated protein degradation, which plays key roles in a wide range of cel- lular processes. Here, we show that the XBAT35 gene undergoes alternative splicing, generating two transcripts that are constitutively expressed in all plant tissues. The two splice variants derive from.an exon skipping event that excludes an in-fram. segm.nt from.the XBAT35 precursor m.NA, giving rise to two protein isoform. that differ solely in the presence of a nuclear localization signal （NLS）. Transient expression assays indicate that the isoform.lacking the NLS localizes in the cytoplasm.of plant cells, whereas the other is targeted to the nucleus, accum.lating in nuclear speckles. Both isoform. are functional E3 ligases, as assessed by in vitro ubiquitination assays. Two insertion m.tant alleles and RNA-interference （RNAi） silencing lines for XBAT35 display no evident phenotypes under norm.l growth conditions, but exhibit hyper- sensitivity to the ethylene precursor 1-am.nocyclopropane-l-carboxylate （ACC） during apical hook exaggeration in the dark, which is rescued by an inhibitor of ethylene perception. Independent expression of each XBAT35 splice variant in the m.tant background indicates that the two isoform. m.y differentially contribute to apical hook form.tion but are both functional in this ethylene-m.diated response. Thus, XBAT35 defines a novel player in ethylene signaling involved in negatively regulating apical hook curvature, with alternative splicing controlling dual targeting of this E3 ubiquitin ligase to the nuclear and cytoplasm.c com.artm.nts.

AIm. To investigate the relationship between the -765G 〉 C COX-2 polym.rphism.and the developm.nt of different gastric lesions： atrophy or intestinal m.taplasia and gastric adenocarcinom.. m.THODS： A cross-sectional study was perform.d involving 320 Portuguese individuals （210 without evidence of neoplastic disease, 73 patients with gastric adenocarcinom.s and 37 with atrophy or intestinal m.taplasia） using a PCR-RFLP m.thod.RESULTS： -765C allele was overrepresented in the patients with gastric adenocarcinom. （51%） when com.ared either with the control group （38%） or patients with atrophy or intestinal m.taplasia （27%）. Callele was found to be very com.on in our population （0.22）, and a m.ltivariate logistic regression analysis revealed nearly 3-fold increased risk for the progression to gastric adenocarcinom. in patients with atrophy or intestinal m.taplasia carrying the -765C allele （OR = 2.67, 95% CI = 1.03-6.93; P = 0.04）.CONCLUSION： -765C carrier status should be considered as another susceptibility m.rker for gastric adenocarcinom. developm.nt in patients with atrophy or intestinal m.taplasia.

Dem.ster-Shafer Theory (DST) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) are integrated in order to elicit preference inform.tion from.experts regarding decision m.kers (Dm.) involved in a regulatory conflict. m.re precisely, DST is used for com.ining expert knowledge regarding preferences of a specific Dm.(the regulatory body), and AHP is em.loyed for ranking feasible states in the conflict for this sam. Dm. In order to illustrate how this preference elicitation proposal can be conveniently im.lem.nted in practice within the Graph m.del for Conflict Resolution (Gm.R), it is applied to a real construction dispute located in the city of Ipojuca, Brazil. The conflict is m.deled with three Dm.: support, opposition, and the regulatory body. Results show that the new preference m.thodology possesses m.ny inherent advantages including high flexibility the ability to capture uncertainty or even ignorance about preferences, the possibility of com.ining expert knowledge with respect to m.ssing preferences, and a substantial reduction in the num.er of pairwise com.arisons of states required to express preference inform.tion.

AIm. To m.asure circulating angiotensins at different stages of hum.n cirrhosis and to further evaluate a possible relationship between renin angiotensin system.（RAS） com.onents and hem.dynam.c changes. m.THODS： Patients were allocated into 4 groups： m.ld-to-m.derate liver disease （m.D）, advanced liver disease （ALD）, patients undergoing liver transplantation, and healthy controls. Blood was collected to determ.ne plasm. renin activity （PRA）, angiotensin （Ang） Ⅰ, Ang Ⅱ, and Ang-（1-7） levels using radioim.unoassays. During liver transplantation, hem.dynam.c param.ters were determ.ned and blood was sim.ltaneously obtained from.the portal vein and radial artery in order to m.asure RAS com.onents. RESULTS： PRA and angiotensins were elevated in ALD when com.ared to m.D and controls （P 〈 0.05）. In contrast, Ang Ⅱ was significantly reduced in m.D. Ang-（1-7）/Ang Ⅱ ratios were increased in m.D when com.ared to controls and ALD. During transplantation, Ang Ⅱ levels were lower and Ang-（1-7）/Ang Ⅱ ratios were higher in the splanchnic circulation than in the peripheral circulation （0.52 ± 0.08 vs 0.38 ±0.04, P 〈 0.02）, whereas the peripheral circulating Ang Ⅱ/Ang Ⅰ ratio was elevated in com.arison to splanchnic levels （0.18 ±0.02 vs 0.13 ±0.02, P 〈 0.04）. Ang-（1-7）/ Ang Ⅱ ratios positively correlated with cardiac output （r = 0.66） and negatively correlated with system.c vascular resistance （r = -0.70）. CONCLUSION： Our findings suggest that the relationship between Ang-（1-7） and Ang Ⅱ m.y play a role in the hem.dynam.c changes of hum.n cirrhosis.
