Biodegradable magnesium materials regulate ROS-RNS balance in pro-inflammatory macrophage environment

The relationship between reactive oxygen and nitrogen species(ROS-RNS)secretion and the concomitant biocorrosion of degradable magnesium(Mg)materials is poorly *** found that Mg foils implanted short term in vivo(24 h)displayed large amounts of proinflammatory F4/80+/iNOS+macrophages at the *** sought to investigate the interplay between biodegrading Mg materials(98.6%Mg,AZ31&AZ61)and macrophages(RAW 264.7)stimulated with lipopolysaccharide(RAW 264.7^(LpS))to induce ROS-RNS *** test how these proinflammatory ROS-RNS secreting cells interact with Mg corrosion in vitro,Mg and AZ61 discs were suspended approximately 2 mm above a monolayer of RAW 264.7 cells,either with or without ^(LpS).The surfaces of both materials showed acute(24 h)changes when incubated in the proinflammatory RAW 264.7^(LpS) *** discs incubated with RAW 264.7^(LpS) macrophages showed greater corrosion pitting,while AZ61 showed morphological and elemental bulk product changes via scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM-EDX).X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XpS)analysis showed a reduction in the Ca/p ratio of the surface products for AZ61 disc incubated with RAW 264.7^(LpS),but not the Mg ***,RAW 264.7^(LpS) macrophages were found to be more viable in the acute biodegradative environment generated by Mg materials,as demonstrated by calcein-AM and cleaved(active)caspase-3 staining(CC3).^(LpS) stimulation caused an increase in ROS-RNS,and a decrease in antioxidant peroxidase *** and AZ61 were found to change this ROS-RNS balance,independently of physiological antioxidant *** findings highlight the complexity of the cellular driven acute inflammatory responses to different biodegradable Mg,and how it can potentially affect performance of these materials.

Chemical proﬁles of non-invasive biological material,such as feces,have great potential to study elusive animals or those with low population ***,we use a metabolomic approach to evaluate Neotropical mustelids as a biological model to describe the diversity of the metabolites present in fecal samples,as well as to evaluate the potential of chemical proﬁles for taxonomic *** collected fecal samples from captive individuals of 5 species of mustelids occurring in Brazil and analyzed them by liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass *** 200 compounds have been annotated;“bile acids,alcohols and derivatives”was the most expressive class in the metabolome of all the *** successfully discriminated 3 taxonomic groups:1—tayra(Eira barbara);2—otters(Lontra longicaudis and pteronura brasiliensis;1);and 3—grisons(Galictis vittata and Galictis cuja).Several compounds seemed to be associated with food intake and the digestive process,while others were found for theﬁrst time in Neotropical *** concluded that mustelids show high metabolome diversity and that species-speciﬁc identiﬁcation through metabolomic proﬁles is possible,thus contributing to the development and implementation of additional non-invasive approaches in the study of mustelids.

This work was carried out to evaluate the insecticidal effect of mono,bi and trimetallic nanoparticles(Nps)from leaf extract of habanero pepper(Capsicum chinense Jacq.)on the red flour beetle(Tribolium castaneum herbst.)and cotton mealybug(phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley).The results showed that Cu Nps,Cu/Mn Nps and Zn/Cu Nps had high insecticidal effect against ***(63%-80% mortality after 96 h).The Cu Nps and Zn/Cu Nps showed also insecticidal effect against ***,but to a lesser extent(20%–28% after 96 h).With regards to the physicochemical characterization,Cu Nps had a zeta potential of 21.1 mV,whereas Cu/Mn Nps and Zn/Cu Nps exhibited zeta potentials of 200 *** polydispersity index(pDI)values for Cu Nps,Cu/Mn Nps,and Zn/Cu Nps were 10.1,29.16,and 14.34,*** TF-IR spectra of the Nps varied from 600 to 4000 cm−*** EDX weight percentages showed the presence of Cu(0.29%–2.4%),Mn(1.4%),and Zn(2.6%)in Cu/Mn Nps and Zn/Cu Nps,respectively.

Background:Noncommunicable diseases(NCDs)are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality *** aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of NCDs among the population of Cyprus and to identify the distribution of the socioeconomic and demographic determinants among individuals with the most frequent ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted using stratified *** and demographic characteristics and the presence of NCDs were collected through a standardized *** diseases were classified using the 10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases(ICD-10).Results:In total,1140 individuals participated in the study,among whom 590(51.7%)had at least one chronic *** most prevalent NCDs were hyperlipidemia(17.4%),hypertension(12.9%),and thyroid diseases(8.4%).We identified more males than females with hyperlipidemia aged 25–44 years old and>65 years old(p=0.024),more males compared to females with hypertension(p=0.001)and more females compared to males with thyroid diseases(ppertension and hyperlipidemia were more likely to be married,to have completed a higher education,and to have a high annual ***:In Cyprus,the majority of the general population had at least one ***,hypertension,and thyroid disease are relatively common,even at younger ages,highlighting the need for the development of public health programs aimed at addressing and preventing NCDs.

Coupling together the ferroelectric,pyroelectric,and photovoltaic characteristics within a single material is a novel way to improve the performance of *** this work,we take advantage of the triple multifunctionality shown by 0.5Ba(Zr_(0.2)Ti_(0.8))O_(3)-0.5(Ba_(0.7)Ca_(0.3))TiO_(3)(BCZT),as demonstrated in an Al/Si/SiOx/BCZT/ITO thin-film *** Si/SiOx acts as an n-type layer to form a metal-ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor heterostructure with the BCZT,and with Al and ITO as *** photo-response of the device,with excitation from a violet laser(405 nm wavelength),is carefully investigated,and it is shown that the photodetector performance is invariant with the chopper frequency owing to the pyro-phototronic effect,which corresponds to the coupling together of the pyroelectric and photovoltaic ***,the photodetector performance was significantly better than that of the devices operating based only on the pyro-phototronic effect by a factor of 4,due to the presence of ferroelectricity in the ***,after a poling voltage of−15 V,for a laser power density of 230mW/cm^(2)and at a chopper frequency of 400Hz,optimized responsivity,detectivity,and sensitivity values of 13.1mA/W,1.7×10^(10)Jones,and 26.9,respectively,are ***,ultrafast rise and fall times of 2.4 and 1.5μs,respectively,are obtained,which are 35,000 and 36,000 times faster rise and fall responses,respectively,than previous reports of devices with the ferro-pyro-phototronic *** is understood based on the much faster ferroelectric switching in ferroelectric thin films owing to the predominant 180°domains in a single direction out of plane.
