Rising atmospheric CO_(2)(carbon dioxide)concentrations and salinization are manifestations of climate change that affect plant growth and *** with an intermediate C_(3)-C_(4)type of photosynthesis live in a wide range of precipitation,temperature,and soil quality,but are more often found in warm and dry *** of the intermediate C_(3)-C_(4)photosynthetic type is C_(2)photosynthesis with a carbon concentration mechanism(CCm)that reassimilates CO_(2)released via ***,the ecological significance under which C_(2)photosynthesis has advantages over C_(3)and C_(4)plants remains largely *** tolerance and functioning of CCm were studied in plants from two populations(P1 and P2)of Sedobassia sedoides(Pall.)Freitag&*** *** with C_(2)photosynthesis exposed to 4 d and 10 d salinity(200 mm NaCl)at ambient(785.7 mg/m^(3),aCO_(2)and elevated(1571.4 mg/m^(3),eCO_(2))CO_(2).On the fourth day of salinity,an increase in Na+content,activity catalase,and superoxide dismutase was observed in both populations.P2 plants showed an increase in proline content and a decrease in photosynthetic enzyme content:rubisco,phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase(PEPC),and glycine decarboxylase(GDC),which indicated a weakening of C_(2)and C_(4)characteristics under *** under 10 d salinity led to an increased Na^(+)content and activity of cyclic electron flow around photosystem I(PSI CEF),a decreased content of K^(+)and GDC in both populations.P1 plants showed greater salt tolerance,which was assessed by the degree of reduction in photosynthetic enzyme content,PSI CEF activity,and changes in relative growth rate(RGR).Differences between populations were evident under the combination of eCO_(2)and *** long-term salinity and eCO_(2),more salt-tolerant P1 plants had a higher dry biomass(DW),which was positively correlated with PSI CEF *** less salt-tolerant P2 plants,DW correlated with transpiration and dark

Structural performance of flexible freeform panelssubjected to wind loads

An increased number of hurricanes and tornadoes have been recorded worldwide in the last decade,while research efforts to reduce wind-related damage to structures become *** architecture,which focuses on generating complex curved shapes including streamlined shapes,has recently gained *** study focuses on investigating the potential of kerf panels,which have unique flexibility depending on the cut patterns and densities,to generate complex shapes for facades and their performance under wind *** investigate the kerf panel's potential capacity against wind loads,static and dynamic analyses were conducted for two kerf panel types with different cut densities and pre-deformed *** was observed that although solid panels result in smaller displacement amplitudes,stresses,and strains in some cases,the kerf panels allow for global and local cell deformations resulting in stress reduction in various locations with the potential to reduce damage due to overstress in *** the predeformed kerf panels,it was observed that both the overall stress and strain responses in kerf cut arrangements were lower than those of the flat-shaped *** study shows the promise of the use of kerf panels in achieving both design flexibility and performance demands when exposed to service *** that this newly proposed architectural configuration(design paradigm)for facades could revolutionize structural engineering by pushing complex freeform shapes to a standard practice that intertwines aesthetic arguments,building performance requirements,and material design considerations has the potential for significant practical applications.

Emphysematous gastritis(EG)is a rare form of gastritis characterized by gastric wall *** is associated with a high mortality *** case report describes a patient with a history of atrial fibrillation treated with apixaban,prior stroke,and schizoaffective disorder who showed epigastric tenderness on ***,no peritonitis signs were recorded,and laboratory values revealed high lactate levels and the presence of adenovirus F40/*** computed tomography scan showed extensive portal venous gas in the left hepatic lobe of the liver,as well as pneumatosis involving the entire stomach,indicating *** diagnosis was histologically confirmed and initially managed medically,which proved inefficacious,necessitating surgical intervention in the form of a laparotomy and esophagojejunostomy with Roux-en-Y *** case report suggests a potential association between EG and adenovirus F40/41–induced gastroenteritis,thereby emphasizing the challenging nature of *** underscores the need for comprehensive research to enhance our understanding of its underlying causes and effective treatment strategies.

Impact of multifocal gas-permeable lens designs on short-term choroidal response, axial length, and retinal defocus profile

Impact of cattle density on the structure and natural regeneration of a turkey oak stand on an agrosilvopastoral farm in central Italy

On an agrosilvopastoral farm in central Italy where maremmana cattle graze in Turkey oak forests,we evaluated the impact of different livestock densities on stand structure,tree diversity and natural regeneration in four types of grazed areas based on the grazing regime adopted:calf-grazed,high-intensity-grazed,low-intensity-grazed,ungrazed *** each area,we set up three permanent circular plots(radius of 15 m)to survey the structural and dasometric characteristics of the overstorey,understorey,and regeneration *** results showed that grazing negatively affected the complexity of the forest structure and its potential to regenerate and maintain a high level of *** differences in stand structure observed between the grazing areas were closely related to livestock *** most sensitive components of the system were the understorey and the regeneration ***,the current grazing management did not affect the dominant tree structure or its *** findings identified medium-term monitoring and regeneration management as the two significant aspects to consider when assessing sustainable *** forests can be established by excluding graz-ing for about 20–25 years.

Specificity of electrophysical and gas-sensitive properties of nanocomposite ZnO–TiO_(2) films formed by solid-phase pyrolysis

ZnO–TiO_(2) thin films containing 0.5 mol%,1.0 mol%,and 5.0 mol%ZnO were synthesized by oxidative solidphase *** materials contained anatase and rutile phases with particle size of 6–13 nm,as confirmed using X-ray phase analysis and scanning electron *** a certain number of ZnO crystallites appeared in the TiO_(2) film structure in the temperature range of room temperature to 220℃,a two-level response of the film resistance was observed,differing by approximately 10%,as obtained by electrophysical *** two-level response correlates with the formation of two donor energy levels of 0.28 and 0.33 eV in the band structure of the ZnO–TiO_(2) *** donor level with a higher activation energy corresponded to the Ti vacancy(V−Ti),and that with a lower activation energy corresponded to the Zn vacancy(V−Zn).Two levels of gas-sensitive properties were noted for 0.5ZnO–TiO_(2),1ZnO–TiO_(2),and 5ZnO–TiO_(2) under the influence of 50 ppm NO_(2) at 250℃.Such two-level responses can be ascribed to the pinning of the Fermi level on ZnO and TiO_(2) *** mechanism of the beak-shaped and two-level responses of sensors based on composite nanomaterials when exposed to various gases was elucidated.

Planetary health risks in urban agriculture

Urban agriculture is gaining recognition for its potential contributions to environmental resilience and climate change adaptation,providing advantages such as urban greening,reduced heat island effects,and decreased air ***,it indirectly supports communities during weather events and natural disasters,ensuring food security and fostering community ***,concerns about planetary health risks persist in highly urbanized and climate-affected *** electronic databases such as Web of Science and Pubmed and adhering to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and meta-Analyses guidelines,we identified 55 relevant papers to comprehend the planetary health risks associated with urban agriculture,The literature review identified five distinct health risks related to urban agriculture:(1)trace metal risks in urban farms;(2)health risks associated with wastewater irrigation;(3)zoonotic risks;(4)other health risks;and(5)social and economic *** study highlights that urban agriculture,while emphasizing environmental benefits,particularly raises concerns about trace metal bioaccumulation in soil and vegetables,posing health risks for *** well studied risks included wastewater irrigation and backyard livestock *** main limitations in the available literature were in studying infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance associated with urban agriculture.
