The Admiralty Mountains region forms the northern termination of the northern Victoria Land,*** quantitative data are available to reconstruct the Cenozoic morpho-tectonic evolution of this sector of the Antarctic plate,where the Admiralty Mountains region forms the northern termination of the western shoulder of the Mesozoic-Cenozoic West Antarctica Rift *** this study we combine new low-temperature thermochronological data(apatite fission-track and(u-Th-Sm)/He analyses)with structural and topography *** regional pattern of the fission-track ages shows a general tendency to older ages(80-60 Ma)associated with shortened mean track-lengths in the interior,and younger fission-track ages clustering at 38-26 Ma with long mean track-lengths in the coastal *** from other regions of Victoria Land,the younger ages are found as far as 50-70 km *** grain apatite(u-Th-Sm)/He ages cluster at 50-30 Ma with younger ages in the coastal *** analysis reveals that the Admiralty Mountains has high local relief,with an area close to the coast,180 km long and 70 km large,having the highest local relief of>2500 *** coincides with the location of the youngest fission-track *** shape of the area with highest local relief matches the shape of a recently detected low velocity zone beneath the northern TAM,indicating that high topography of the Admiralty Mountains region is likely sustained by a mantle thermal *** used the obtained constraints on the amount of removed crustal section to reconstruct back-eroded profiles and calculate the erosional load in order to test flexural uplift *** found that our back-eroded profiles are better reproduced by a constant elastic thickness of intermediate values(Te=20-30 km).This suggests that,beneath the Admiralty Mountains,the elastic properties of the lithosphere are different with respect to other TAM sectors,likely due to a stationary Cenozoic upper mantle thermal an

Objective:To investigate the possible association between rs7754840 and rs7756992 polymorphisms of CDKAL1 gene and susceptibility to gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)in a Filipino pregnant ***:A total of 101 patients with GDM and 99 women without GDM were *** CDKAL1 gene single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs),namely rs7754840 and rs7756992,were genotyped by using TaqMan allelic discrimination ***-Whitney u test,median and interquartile range were used to describe physical and biochemical *** differences in the genotype and allele distribution of the target genetic variants among the two groups of participants were assessed by using Chi-square *** to Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was tested prior to conducting further *** logistic regression model was used to investigate the effects of the genotype models on GDM ***:There was no observed correlation between the genotypes of the rs7754840 SNP and oral glucose tolerance test ***,there was no significant association between genetic models of the rs7754840 SNP and GDM risk(additive OR 1.43,95%CI 0.82-2.50,P=0.21;dominant OR 1.21,95%CI 0.57-2.59,P=0.62;recessive OR 1.63,95%CI 0.86-3.09,P=0.13).Conclusions:The results of this study suggest no association between CDKAL1 gene variant rs7754840 and GDM development in Filipino pregnant *** studies with a larger population should be performed to validate our findings.

AIM： To our knowledge, the inter-observer variability of the liver biopsy findings in HBV-infected children have not been studied as yet. Hence, we aimed to compare different pathologist＇s assessment of grading and staging in liver biopsies obtained from children prior to interferon treatment. METHODS： We collected 920 biopsies from 11 medical centers. The biopsies were independently reviewed by 6 pathologists from academic centers who assessed Batts-Ludwig score for grading and staging. Satisfactory agreement among observers was defined as at least 60% of observers having the same opinion. Satisfactory dispersion between maximal and minimal score for the same biopsy specimen was defined as a maximum 1 point. RESuLTS： Satisfactory inter-observer agreement for grading was obtained in 51.6% and for staging in 75.7% of biopsies. Satisfactory dispersion for grading scores was observed in 44.5% and for staging in 72.7% of cases. CONCLuSION： Our study demonstrates that：（1） pathologists differ in their assessment of grading and staging of liver biopsies; （2） inter-observer variability for staging is lower than that for grading; and （3） regardless of the inter-observer variability of assessments, the majority of children with chronic HBV infection have mild to moderate inflammation and mild to moderate fibrosis.

High-precision geochronology of Mesozoic magmatism in Macao,Southeast China:Evidence for multistage granite emplacement

Six new high precision u-Pb zircon ID-TIMS ages plus thirteen in situ high spatial resolution u-Pb zircon LA-MC-ICPMS ages are reported from Jurassic plutonic(metaluminous to weakly peraluminous biotite granites)and Jurassic to Cretaceous hypabyssal(dacites)rocks from *** its relatively small area(~30 km^2),the new ages tightly constrain the Macao granitic magmatism to two periods ranging from 164.5±0.6 Ma to 162.9±0.7 Ma and 156.6±0.2 Ma to 155.5±0.8 Ma,separated by ca.6 *** zircons point to the existence of a basement with ages up to Paleo-Proterozoic and late Archean in the *** addition,younger dacitic rocks were dated at 150.6±0.6 Ma andu-Pb zircon ages and whole-rock REE data of Macao granites indicate that the first pulse is also represented in Hong Kong and Southeast(SE)China,while magmatism with the chemical characteristics of the second pulse seems to not be represented outside *** two granitic magmatic pulses have distinct mineralogical and geochemical features that support their discrete nature rather than a continuum of comagmatic activity and suggest that the Macao granitic suite was incrementally assembled during a period of ca.9 Ma,a hypothesis also extendable to the neighboring Hong Kong region for a time lapse of ca.24 *** Macao,the transition from granitic magmatism(Middle to upper Jurassic)to the younger dacite dykes(upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous)most likely corresponds to a change in the regional tectonic setting,from an extensional regime related with foundering of the subducting paleoPacific plate during the Early Yanshanian period to the reestablishment of a normal subduction system in SE China during the Late Yanshanian period.

Quantifying Information via Shannon Entropy in Spatially Structured Optical Beams

While information is ubiquitously generated,shared,and analyzed in a modern-day life,there is still some controversy around the ways to assess the amount and quality of information inside a noisy optical channel.A number of theoretical approaches based on,e.g.,conditional Shannon entropy and Fisher information have been developed,along with some experimental *** of these approaches are limited to a certain alphabet,while others tend to fall short when considering optical beams with a nontrivial structure,such as Hermite-Gauss,Laguerre-Gauss,and other modes with a nontrivial ***,we propose a new definition of the classical Shannon information via the Wigner distribution function,while respecting the Heisenberg *** this definition,we calculate the amount of information in Gaussian,Hermite-Gaussian,and LaguerreGaussian laser modes in juxtaposition and experimentally validate it by reconstruction of the Wigner distribution function from the intensity distribution of structured laser *** experimentally demonstrate the technique that allows to infer field structure of the laser beams in singular optics to assess the amount of contained *** the generality,this approach of defining information via analyzing the beam complexity is applicable to laser modes of any topology that can be described by well-behaved *** Shannon information,defined in this way,is detached from a particular alphabet,i.e.,communication scheme,and scales with the structural complexity of the *** a synergy between the Wigner distribution function encompassing the information in both real and reciprocal space and information being a measure of disorder can contribute into future coherent detection algorithms and remote sensing.

Adjusting CA19-9 values to predict malignancy in obstructive jaundice:Influence of bilirubin and C-reactive protein

AIM:To find a possible relationship between inflammation and CA19-9 tumor marker by analyzing data from patients with benign jaundice(BJ) and malignant jaundice(MJ).METHODS:All patients admitted for obstructive jaundice,in the period 2005-2009,were prospectively enrolled in the study,obtaining a total of 102 *** admission,all patients underwent complete standard blood test examinations including C-reactive protein(CRP),bilirubin,*** were considered eligible for the study when they presented obstructive jaundice confirmed by instrumental examinations and increased serum bilirubin levels(total bilirubin > 2.0 mg/dL).The standard cut-off level for CA19-9 was 32 u/mL,whereas for CRP this was 1.5 mg/*** CA19-9 level was adjusted by dividing it by the value of serum bilirubin or by the CRP *** patients were divided into 2 groups,MJ and BJ,and after the adjustment a comparison between the 2 groups of patients was ***,specificity and positive predictive values were calculated before and after the ***:Of the 102 patients,51 were affected by BJ and 51 by *** CA19-9 levels were found in 71.7% of the *** the group of 51 BJ patients there were 29(56.9%) males and 22(43.1%) females with a median age of 66 years(range 24-96 years),whereas in the MJ group there were 24(47%) males and 27(53%) females,with a mean age of 70 years(range 30-92 years).Pathologic CA19-9 serum level was found in 82.3% of *** levels were pathologic in 66.6% of the patients with BJ and in 49% with *** and CA19-9 average levels were significantly higher in MJ compared with BJ(P = 0.000 and P = 0.02),while the CRP level was significantly higher in BJ(P = 0.000).Considering a CA19-9 cut-off level of 32 u/mL,82.3% in the MJ group and 54.9% in the BJ group were positive for CA19-9(P = 0.002).A CA19-9 cut-off of 100 u/mL increases the difference between the two groups:35.3% in BJ and 68.6% in MJ(P = 0.0007).Adjusting the CA1

In-situ incorporation of layered double hydroxides(LDH)nanocontainers into plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)coatings on AZ91 Mg alloy has been achieved in the present *** was selected as Mg corrosion inhibitor for exchange and intercalation into the nanocontainers,which were subsequently incorporated into the *** was found that the thickness and compactness of the coatings were increased in the presence of LDH *** corrosion protection performance of the blank PEO,LDH containing PEO and inhibitor loaded coatings was evaluated by means of polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).The degradation process and corrosion resistance of PEO coating were found to be greatly affected by the loaded inhibitor and nanocontainers by means of ion-exchange when corrosion occurs,leading to enhanced and stable corrosion resistance of the substrate.

Tamoxifen Treatment in Correlation with Increased ET-1 Levels Is Associated with the Development of Breast Cancer Metastases

Background: In breast cancer patients, a correlation between endothelin-1 (ET-1) and lymph node metastasis was found. While breast cancer with a positive ER status can be treated with Tamoxifen, several studies describe increasing Tamoxifen resistance in patients. We analyzed the relationship between Tamoxifen, ET-1 overexpression, and ER leading to Tamoxifen resistance. Methods: Breast cancer cell lines were treated with Tamoxifen, ET-1, estrogen and combinations. using qRT-PCR, immune-precipitation, Western blot, EMSA and immunohistology target gene expression and ER complex partners were investigated. Human biopsies and mastectomy specimens were immunohistologically studied for Vimentin 3, and ERβ. Results: Breast cancer cells stimulated with a combination of Tamoxifen and ET-1 downregulate ERα, while upregulating intracellular ET-1, and ERβ. Immunoprecipation of nuclear extracts with ET-1, ERα or ERβ agarose conjugated antibodies reveals a complex formation change replacing ERα by ERβ once Tamoxifen forms a complex with ET-1. ERβand ET-1 migrate into the nucleus. ET-1 stimulation upregulates metastases promoting target genes (IL-6, Wnt11), including a novel one, Vimentin 3. Tissue analyses show Vim3 and ERβ expression in metastases of ERα positive breast cancer, and in ERα negative biopsies/mastectomy specimens. Conclusion: We are the first to describe a complex consisting of Tamoxifen, ERβ and ET-1, whose nuclear transmigration causes an overexpression of target genes. This mechanism may explain Tamoxifen resistance. Future pathologic analyses should include estrogen beta receptor status as well as the ET-1 expression. This concept presents a new treatment approach for individualized medicine in breast cancer patients with increased ET-1 levels.
