Purpose:The aim of this study was to examine systemic responses of oxidant/antioxidant status following 2 training sessions of different intensity in amateur rhythmic ***:Before the experimental training,10 female gymnasts performed a gradually increased exercise test to assess maximal heart rate,maximal oxygen consumption,and anaerobic *** executed 2 intermittent training sessions separated by 48 h of recovery(48 h-post R):the first was performed at low-moderate intensity(LMI)and the second at high intensity(HI).Blood samples were collected immediately preand post-training and 48 h-post *** level(OxL)and total antioxidant capacity(TAC)were photometrically ***:OxL was significantly higher in post-training and 48 h-post R following HI than the same conditions after an LMI session(HI *** post-training:381.10±46.17(mean±SD)vs.344.18±27.94 Units Carratelli(***);48 h-post R:412.21±26.61 vs.373.80±36.08 ***).There was no change in TAC between the 2 training sessions *** LMI training,OxL significantly decreased in post-training and increased to reach the baseline at 48 h-post R,whereas TAC increased only at 48 h-post *** HI training,OxL significantly increased to reach a high oxidative stress 48 h-post R,whereas TAC was lower in post-training than ***:The pattern of OxL and TAC levels implies different regulation mechanisms by HI and LMI training *** oxidative stress induced by an HI protocol might be associated with both insufficient TAC and recovery time at 48 h necessary to restore redox balance.

Internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection with associated stroke is rare event in children. The usual mechanism is either direct trauma or sudden neck movements. We describe the case of a 3-year-old patient admitted with right hemiplegia following a stroke. The diagnosis was confirmed by ANGIO-MRI. During treatment with anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents, the patient showed significant improvement in the right-sided hemiplegia. Minor head trauma is a possible pathological mechanism for ICA dissection in children. However, the scenario is extremely rare.

Vincristine is a chemotherapy drug belonging to the group of Vinca alkaloids which also includes vinblastine and vindesine. It is used in hematological malignancies and solid tumors. The Vinca alkaloids are neurotoxic, usually causing peripheral neuropathy, and rarely cranial neuropathies. We report a case of a 33-month-old male child diagnosed with Wilms’ tumor, who had an isolated unilateral right ptosis following vincristine, with a good improvement after stopping it.

Vaccination against Coronavirus disease-19(COVID-19)was pivotal to limit spread,morbidity and *** aim is to find out whether vaccines against COVID-19 lead to an immunological response stimulating the production of de novo donor specific antibodies(DSAs)or increase in mean fluorescence intensity(MFI)of pre-existing DSAs in kidney transplant recipients(KTRs).This study involved a detailed literature search through December 2nd,2023 using PubMed as the primary *** search strategy incorporated a combination of relevant Medical Subject Headings terms and keywords:"COVID-19","SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination","Kidney,Renal Transplant",and"Donor specific antibodies".The results from related studies were collated and analyzed.A total of 6 studies were identified,encompassing 460 KTRs vaccinated against *** responses were detected in 8 KTRs of which 5 had increased MFIs,1 had de novo DSA,and 2 were categorized as either having de novo DSA or increased *** were 48 KTRs with pre-existing DSAs prior to vaccination,but one study(Massa et al)did not report whether pre-existing DSAs were associated with post vaccination *** the remaining 5 studies,35 KTRs with pre-existing DSAs were identified of which 7 KTRs(20%)developed de novo DSAs or increased ***,no immunological response was detected in 452(98.3%)*** study affirms prior reports that COVID-19 vaccination is safe for KTRs,especially if there are no pre-existing ***,if KTRs have pre-existing DSAs,then an increased immunological risk may be *** findings need to be taken cautiously as they are based on a limited number of patients so further studies are still needed for confirmation.

Objective:Zinc deficiency is the most common micronutrient abnormality seen in human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)*** of CD4 cells is a hallmark of HIV *** study aims to determine the association between whole blood zinc levels and CD4 cell count and stage of HIV infection among patients in a tertiary hospital in the ***:Sixty-five newly diagnosed HIV-positive patients of the institution were *** profile,whole blood zinc levels,CD4 cell count level,HIV disease stage,and presence of any dermatologic manifestations were *** of zinc deficiency and correlation between whole blood zinc levels and CD4 cell count were *** data were analyzed by chi-square and pearson correlation ***:Among the 65 patients,overall zinc deficiency was noted at 33.8%.Low CD4 count and HIV disease stage IV participants had the highest percentage of zinc deficiency at 54.6%and 50%,respectively.A correlation coefficient atr=0.3364 was noted between whole blood zinc levels and CD4 cell count(P=0.006).Twenty-nine patients presented with dermatologic manifestations,with 10 patients being zinc ***:A weak positive correlation was seen between zinc levels and CD4 *** is an increasing frequency of zinc level deficiency with a higher HIV disease *** manifestations of HIV may be present in both patients with normal and deficient zinc levels.

Femoral venous catheterization is the most used technic in emergency he-modialysis. Some uncommon mechanical complications can occur during a catheterization. We report the case of an accidental migration of a guide wire during the placement of a hemodialysis femoral catheter. The case of a patient admitted in the nephrology department at Aristide Le Dantec University Hospital for malignant hypertension was investigated. Emergency hemodialysis was indicated. Surgical extraction of the metal guide has been performed and the outcome was favorable.

The negative effects of hydrogen embrittlement on metallic systems have been investigated through determination of the mechanical properties of two metallic systems that were exposed to hydrogen. An assessment of the effects of hydrogen absorption/desorption cycling on the tensile strength, ductility, and microhardness of pure palladium and the alloy palladium-silver (25 weight% silver) has been undertaken. The variables that are the focus of the study are the amount of hydrogen absorbed by the metal, deuterium isotope effect, number of hydrogen absorption/desorption cycles, and the hydrogen exposure temperature. Under all conditions studied, the mechanical properties of pure palladium were significantly altered as a result of hydrogen exposure, with significant hydrogen embrittlement occurring. In contrast, the mechanical properties of the palladium-silver alloy showed little alteration as a result of hydrogen exposure, including virtually no occurrence of hydrogen embrittlement.

Introduction: Intradialytic hypertension is defined as elevation of blood pressure to more than 10 mmHg in the post-dialysis period as compared to the pre-dialysis one. It is an important factor of morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients. The aim of our study is to assess the prevalence and associated factors of intradialytic hypertension. Patients and methods: This is a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study that was conducted over a period of 3 weeks in the hemodialysis units of Aristide Le Dantec Hospital in Dakar and Regional Hospital Center in Ziguinchor. Chronic he-modialysis patients who are at least 18 years old and agreed to participate in study have been included. Patients who did not have 4 measures or those who decided to withdraw from the study were excluded. Intradialytic hypertension was restrained by an increase in systolic blood pressure immediately after the hemodialysis session > 10 mmHg compared to that recorded before session, with a repetition of this phenomenon for at least 4 hemodialysis sessions. Results: Our study included 539 hemodialysis sessions for 93 hemodialysis patients with a mean age of 48.72 ± 14.06 years and a sex ratio (M/F) of 1.21. The mean duration of dialysis was 64.22 ± 45.63 months. Hypertensive nephropathy was significantly common, noted in 38.7% (36 patients). Mean inter dialytic weight gain was 2.04 ± 1.06 kg, and the average dry weight was 62.71 ± 13.69 kg. The average hemoglobin level was 9.27 ± 1.91 g/dl. The mean albumin level was 35.4 ± 7.48 g/l. Nineteen (19) patients were administered erythropoietin stimulating agents (20.4%), and 59 patients were given antihypertensive drugs (63.4%). An elevation of more than 10 mmHg of post-dialysis BP compared to pre-dialysis was noted in 179 sessions, which is 33.2 per 100 hemodialysis sessions.
