The Erasmus Plus programme’Innovative Education and Training in high power laser plasmas’,otherwise known as PowerLaPs,is *** PowerLaPs programme employs an innovative paradigm in that it is a multi-centre programme where teaching takes place in five separate institutes with a range of different aims and styles of *** ’in class’ time is limited to four weeks a year,and the programme spans two *** aims to train students from across Europe in theoretical,applied and laboratory skills relevant to the pursuit of research in laserplasma interaction physics and inertial confinement fusion(ICF).Lectures are intermingled with laboratory sessions and continuous assessment *** programme,which is led by workers from the Technological Educational Institute(TEI)of Crete,and supported by co-workers from the Queen’s University Belfast,the University of Bordeaux,the Czech Technical-University in Prague,Ecole Polytechnique,the University of Ioannina,the University of Salamanca and the University of York,has just completed its first *** far three Learning Teaching Training(LTT)activities have been held,at the Queen’s University Belfast,the University of Bordeaux and the Centre for Plasma Physics and Lasers(CPPL)of TEI *** last of these was a two-week long Intensive Programme(IP),while the activities at the other two universities were each five days in *** far work has concentrated upon training in both theoretical and experimental work in plasma physics,high power laser-matter interactions and high energy density *** nature of the programme will be described in detail and some metrics relating to the activities carried out to date will be presented.

Background:The damage inflicted by the coronavirus diseases 2019(COVID-19)pandemic upon humanity is and will continue to be *** progress made in global health over the past 20 years has reverted and economic growth has already evaporated,giving rise to a global recession,the likes of which we may not have experienced since the Second World *** aim is to draw the attention of the neglected tropical disease(NTD)community towards some of the major emerging economic opportunities which are quickly appearing on the horizon as a result of *** text:This scoping review relied on a literature search comprised of a sample of articles,statements,and press releases on initiatives aimed at mitigating the impact of COVID-19,while supporting economic *** note,the donor scenario and economic development agendas are highly dynamic and expected to change rapidly as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds,as are donor and lender *** elusions:The NTD community,particularly in low-and middle-income countries(LMICs),will need to work quickly,diligently,and in close collaboration with decision-makers and key stakeholders,across sectors at national and international level to secure its *** so might enhance the odds of grasping potential opportunities to access some of the massive resources that are now available in the form of contributions from corporate foundations,trust funds,loans,debt relieve schemes,and other financial mechanisms,as part of the ongoing and future economic development agendas and public health priorities driven by the COVID-19 *** paper should serve as a starting point for the NTD community to seek much needed financial support in order to sustain and revitalize control and elimination efforts pertaining to NTDs in LMICs.

Miscibility Behavior of Polyacrylamides Poly(Ethylene Glycol)Blends:Flory Huggins Interaction Parameter Determined by Thermal Analysis

Blends of polyacrylamide—PAM, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)—PNIPAAm, poly(N-tert-butylacrylamide)—PTBAA, poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide)—PDMAA and poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide)—PDEAA with poly(ethylene glycol)— PEG were prepared by casting in methanol and water at concentrations of 20 wt%, 40 wt%, 60 wt%, and 80 wt% in PEG. The miscibility of the components was studied by Differential Scanning Calorimetry—DSC. All blend systems are characterized by a single glass transition temperature (Tg), close to the Tg of the amorphous component. The Hoffman Weeks method was used to determine equilibrium melting temperature (Tm) data. The determination of the melt point depression of the blends allowed the calculation of Flory-Huggins interaction parameter (χ12) of the two polymers in the melt, by using the Nishi Wang equation. The interaction parameters, calculated for all the blends, are slightly negative and close to zero, suggesting a partial miscibility between the components.

Identification of IL11RA and MELK amplification in gastric cancer by comprehensive genomic profiling of gastric cancer cell lines

AIM To identify common copy number alterations on gastric cancer cell *** Four gastric cancer cell lines(ACP02, ACP03, AGP01 and PG100) underwent chromosomal comparative genome hybridization and array comparative genome hybridization. We also confirmed the results by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis using the bacterial artificial chromosome clone and quantitative real time PCR *** The amplification of 9p13.3 was detected in all cell lines by both methodologies. An increase in the copy number of 9p13.3 was also confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis. Moreover, the interleukin 11 receptor alpha(IL11RA) and maternal embryonic leucine zipper kinase(MELK) genes, which are present in the 9p13.3 amplicon, revealed gains of the MELK gene in all the cell lines studied. Additionally, a gain in the copy number of IL11 RA and MELK was observed in 19.1%(13/68) and 55.9%(38/68) of primary gastric adenocarcinoma samples, respectively. CONCLUSION The characterization of a small gain region at 9p13.3 in gastric cancer cell lines and primary gastric adenocarcinoma samples has revealed MELK as a candidate target gene that is possibly related to the development of gastric cancer.

The Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi is a native plant of South America popularly known in Brazil as aroeira. It is a medium-sized plant, which demonstrates a high adaptive potential in various environments, besides having various medicinal properties such as anti-inflammatory and antidiarrheal. Bacterial susceptibility tests were carried out and the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was obtained. The results were interpreted based on the conventionally microbiological protocols and data from the CLSI. For the microbiological tests, microorganisms obtained from the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC), specifically, (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Encherichia coli) were used. Of the tested bacterial strains, only the Staphylococcus aureus 6538 presented susceptibility to the aroeira’s hydroalcoholic extract, forming zones of inhibition of 8.0 mm of diameter up to the MIC of 35.3 mg/mL, while the other tested strains showed to be resistant in all the concentrations of hydroalcoholic extract of the Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi bark. Our aim is to analyze the “in vitro” antibacterial potential of the 70% hydroalcoholic extract of the Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi.

The adipose body of cheek is the tissue located in the buccal space. In the past, the partial removal of this tissue, called jugal lipectomy, was indicated to fill defects resulting from buccosinusal communications and/or maxillary resections. Recently, such technique became popular in facial aesthetics as it gives patients the feel of a more delicate face, in which the zygomatic bone appears to be more prominent due to the reduction in the volume of the cheeks. However, many professionals are unaware of how to establish the correct diagnosis of facial volume alterations, as well as in performing and treating the complications that may arise from jugal lipectomy. The aim of this paper is to present three clinical cases with different applications of jugal lipectomy, discussing some relevant aspects of surgical planning that involve the request for imaging exams and a previous study of this tissue's anatomical features.

Calibration of Hargreaves-Samani Equation for Estimating Reference Evapotranspiration in Sub-Humid Region of Brazil

Reference evapotranspiration (ETo) is an important parameter used in numerous applications, such as climatological and hydrological studies, as well as for water resources planning and management. There are several methods to estimate ETo, being that the FAO Penman-Monteith (EToPM) method is considered standard. This method needs many parameters (solar radiation, air temperature, humidity and wind speed), however there are still many uncovered areas, suggesting the need for methods of calculating evapotranspiration based on few meteorological elements, such as air temperature. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the ETo by Hargreaves-Samani method in the experimental watershed of the “Riacho do Papagaio” farm, in county of Sao joao, in north-eastern Brazil, using data of 2011 and 2012. Reference evapotranspiration estimated by non-calibrated Hargreaves-Samani method (EToHS) was overestimated in all months (RMSE = 1.43 mm·d-1), mainly in months of lower evaporative demand (from May to July). Because of these tendencies, this method cannot be used in its original form to estimate ET for this region;therefore, a calibration of radiation adjustment coefficient (kRs) was performed. The calibrated Hargreaves-Samani method (EToHSc) had better performance (RMSE = 0.52 mm·d-1), being suitable for predicting ETo in this region.
