Astrocytes,the main population of glial cells in the central nervous system(CNS),exert essential tasks for the control of brain tissue homeostasis,supporting neuron and other glial cell activity from the developmental stage to adult *** maintain the optimal functionality of the brain,astroglial cells are particularly committed to reacting to every change in tissue homeostatic conditions,from mild modifications of the physiological environment,a process called astrocyte activation,to the more severe alterations occurring in pathological situations causing astrocyte reactivity or reactive astrogliosis(Escartin et al.,2021).During these reactive states,astrocytes mount an active,progressive response encompassing morphological,molecular,and interactional remodeling,leading to the acquisition of new functions and the loss of others,whose intensity,duration,and reversibility are dependent on the nature of the stimulus and regulated in a context-specific manner.

Background Primary progressive aphasia(PPA)is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a gradual,insidious and progressive loss of language abilities,with naming difficulties being an early and persistent impairment common to all three *** the absence of effective pharmacological treatments and given the progressive nature of the disorder,in the past few decades,many studies have investigated the effectiveness of language training to minimize the functional impact of word-finding difficulties in daily *** body We review language treatments most commonly used in clinical practice among patients with different variants of PPA,with a focus on the enhancement of spoken and written naming *** of gains to the ability to name untrained stimuli or to other language abilities and the maintenance of these results over time are also ***-eight studies were included in this literature review,identifying four main types of language treatment:a)lexical retrieval treatment,b)phonological and/or orthographic treatment,c)semantic treatment,and d)a multimodality approach ***,language training is able to induce immediate improvements of naming abilities in all variants of ***,despite the large variability among results,generalization and long-term effects can be recorded after the *** reviewed studies also suggest that one factor that determines the choice of a particular approach is the compromised components of the lexical/semantic processing *** The majority of studies have demonstrated improvements of naming abilities following language *** the progressive nature of PPA,it is essential to apply language treatment in the early stages of the disease.

Bacterial infection in the first month after liver transplantation is a frequent complication that poses a serious risk for liver transplant recipients as contributes substantially to increased length of hospitalization and hospital costs being a leading cause of death in this period. Most of these infections are caused by gramnegative bacilli, although gram-positive infections, especially Enterococcus sp. constitute an emerging infectious problem. This high rate of early postoperative infections after liver transplant has generated interest in exploring various prophylactic approaches to surmount this problem. One of these approaches is selective intestinal decontamination(SID). SID is a prophylactic strategy that consists of the administration of antimicrobials with limited anaerobicidal activity in order to reduce the burden of aerobic gram-negative bacteria and/or yeast in the intestinal tract and so prevent infections caused by these organisms. The majority of studies carried out to date have found SID to be effective in the reduction of gram-negative infection, but the effect on overall infection is limited due to a higher number of infection episodes by pathogenic enterococci and coagulase-negative staphylococci. However, difficulties in general extrapolation of the favorable results obtained in specific studies together with the potential risk of selection of multirresistant microorganisms has conditioned controversy about the routinely application of these strategies in liver transplant recipients.

Contrast enhanced ultrasound(CEUS)has been widely implemented in clinical practice because of the enormous quantity of information it provides,along with its low cost,reproducibility,minimal invasiveness,and safety of the secondgeneration ultrasound contrast *** overcome the limitation of CEUS given by the subjective evaluation of the contrast enhancement behaviour,quantitative analysis of contrast kinetics with generation of time-intensity curves has been introduced in recent *** quantification of perfusion parameters[named as dynamic-CEUS(D-CEUS)]has several applications in gastrointestinal neoplastic and inflammatory ***,the limited availability of large studies and the heterogeneity of the technologies employed have precluded the standardisation of D-CEUS,which potentially represents a valuable tool for clinical practice in management of gastrointestinal *** this article,we reviewed the evidence exploring the application of D-CEUS in gastrointestinal diseases,with a special focus on liver,pancreas,and inflammatory bowel diseases.
