Mango(Mangifera indica)is a major tropical fruit species cultivated in *** objective of this study was to identify species of Lasiodiplodia associated with dieback and stem-end rot of mango in the semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil,and compare the species in relation to mycelial growth,pathogenicity and virulence.A total of 120 isolates of Lasiodiplodia were used and identifications were made using a combination of morphology and phylogenetic analysis based on partial translation elongation factor 1-αsequence(EF1-α)and internal transcribed spacers(ITS).The following species were identified:Lasiodiplodia crassispora,***,***,***,***,*** and Lasiodiplodia sp..Lasiodiplodia theobromae was the most frequently isolated species,which represented 41%of all the *** this species had been previously reported on mango in Brazil,while the other species represent the first report associated with mango tree diseases in this *** crassispora is reported for the first time associated with mango diseases *** were significant differences in mycelial growth rates among the Lasiodiplodia species and also in the optimum temperature for *** species of Lasiodiplodia were pathogenic on mango *** were significant differences in virulence among the species,wherein *** and Lasiodiplodia *** the most virulent,while the least virulent were ***,***,*** and ***.

Objective:To study the behavioral effects of semi purified fraction prepared from the stem bark of Erythrina velutina on ***:Three chloroformic fractions(CA) at 50 or 100 mg/kg(CA1,CA2 and CA3) were tested in two behavioral tests;plus maze and open ***:In the plus maze test,it was observed a decrease in the number of entries in the closed arms(NECA) CA2 at both doses as compared to the control *** the open field test,CA2 and CA3 fractions decreased the number of squares crossed and the time of permanence on the bar,increased the number of falls at both doses in the rota rod *** CA2 fraction decreased the NECA,but this data did not characterize an anxiolytic *** was the consequence from decrease of locomotor activity(LA) observed in the open field test,that the decrease of LA and rearing,the number of falls and the decrease in time of permanence on the bar in rota rod test were observed after treatment with CA2 and CA3 at both doses,suggesting sedative ***:The present work demonstrated that CA2 and CA3 fractions have impairing effect on LA and motor coordination.

Background:Chagas disease is endemic in Latin America and still represents an important public health problem in the *** cardiomyopathy is the most significant chronic form due to its association with morbidity and *** last decade has seen increasing evidence that inflammatory cytokines and chemokines are responsible for the generation of inflammatory infiltrate and tissue damage,with chronic chagasic cardiomyopathy patients presenting a pro-inflammatory immune *** studies have evaluated the role of chemokines in experimental *** infection,few have addressed their systemic profile,especially for human infection and in aging *** present work aimed to use the data from a large population based study of older adults,conducted in an endemic area for Chagas disease,to examine the association between serum levels of cytokines and chemokines,*** infection and electrocardiogram(ECG)***:The present work evaluated serum levels of CCL2,CXCL9,CXCL10,CCL5,CXCL8,IL-1β,IL-6,TNF,IL-12 and IL-10 by Flow Cytometric Bead Array assay(CBA)and the results expressed in pg/*** baseline survey started in January 1st 1997,with 1284 participants of an aged population-based *** signed an informed consent at baseline and at each subsequent visit and authorized death certificate and medical records ***:Our results demonstrated that Chagas disease patients had higher serum levels of CXCL9,CXCL10 and IL-1βand lower serum levels of CCL5 than non-infected ***,our data demonstrated that CXCL9 and CXCL10 increased in an age-dependent profile in Chagas disease ***:Together,this study provided evidences that serum biomarkers increase along the age continuum and may have potential implications for establishing clinical management protocols and therapeutic intervention in Chagas disease patients.

Objective: To evaluate anti-Candida and anti-Cryptococcus activities of 15 nonalkaloidal compounds from Pterogyne nitens Tulasne(Leguminosae), a South American medicinal ***: Compounds were submitted to antifungal assays, using microdilution method described by Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute document, with minor modifications. Five species of Candida and two species of Cryptococcus, including clinical isolates were screened. Antifungal activity was expressed by minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC). Amphotericin B and fluconazole were used as standard antifungal ***: Among tested compounds, six substances presented fungal growth inhibition(MIC < 31.2 mg/m L) [three flavone derivatives(1–3), a glycosylated flavonol derivative(5)and two phenolic acids(10 and 12)]. Sorbifolin(1), exhibited potent antifungal activity,demonstrating MIC value of 3.90 mg/m L against Candida glabrata ATCC 90030, Cryptococcus gattii 118 and fluconazole-resistant clinical isolate of Cryptococcus neoformans var. grubii. Pedalin(2) and nitensoside B(3), two glycosylated flavone derivatives, were active against Cryptococcus neoformans ATCC 90012(MIC = 7.80 mg/m L).Conclusions: Flavone derivatives from Pterogyne nitens can serve as prototypes for the design and development of innovative anti-Candida and anti-Cryptococcus hits.

At semi-industrial scale it was obtained two cheeses, one with aromatic culture (CHN) and the other with also L. helveticus (CHN + LH). Proteolysis during ripening was evaluated using proteolytic indices, electrophoretic profile Urea-PAGE and release of free amino acids. Sensory evaluation was performed by acceptability test. It was observed a 5-fold increase in the fraction corresponding to αs1-I-casein in the CHN cheese and 6.5 times in the CHN + LH cheese and 7.2 and 8.2 increase respectively, for total amino acids. Prato cheese with the adjunct culture showed higher acceptability in terms of overall aroma and flavor.

Aims： To identify dietary practices together with anthropometric variables of a group of professional suffers. Subjects： Participants of a National Surf Championship in Brazil. Evaluations：（1） Anthropometric measures, indexes and calculations （body mass, height, arm span, body circumferences and nine skinfold thicknesses, arm spam/height ratio, waist-to-hip-ratio, conicity index and % body fat）; （2） One 24h food-recall, describing all the food and drinks consumed at the previous day, and analyzed for energy, macro-nutrients, some micro-nutrients and food groups. The values were compared with some references and position statements and with the Brazilian Food Guide; （3） The basal and daily energy expenditure was estimated from specific equations; the energy intake was estimated from the information on diet and the energy balance was estimated from the difference between these values. Main results： The intake of carbohydrate is below the position statements （2.5-9.7g/kg and 6-10g/kg body weight, respectively）. Possibly the intake of supplements such as maltodextrin fulfilled the requirements （30.3% of the athletes referred the intake of this supplement）; The intake of BCAA （Branched-Chain Amino Acids） showed to be high （24.2% of the athletes）; The low intake of vegetables possibly contributes to the low intake of micronutrients （0.0-6.0 servings, against the recommendation of 4-5 servings）; The high intake of fried food （added lipid = 0.0-5.9 servings, against the recommendation of 1.0-2.0 servings） overlapped healthy habits such as beans and nuts consumption （0.0-13.6 servings against the recommendation of 1.0 serving）; The percentage of body fat seems to be similar to swimmers （around 12% of body weight）. As a conclusion, the dietary practices of suffers in the day prior a competition need to be improved, especially with respect to carbohydrates and lipids. Reference evapotranspiration (ETo) is an important parameter used in numerous applications, such as climatological and hydrological studies, as well as for water resources planning and management. There are several methods to estimate ETo, being that the FAO Penman-Monteith (EToPM) method is considered standard. This method needs many parameters (solar radiation, air temperature, humidity and wind speed), however there are still many uncovered areas, suggesting the need for methods of calculating evapotranspiration based on few meteorological elements, such as air temperature. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the ETo by Hargreaves-Samani method in the experimental watershed of the “Riacho do Papagaio” farm, in county of Sao Joao, in north-eastern Brazil, using data of 2011 and 2012. Reference evapotranspiration estimated by non-calibrated Hargreaves-Samani method (EToHS) was overestimated in all months (RMSE = 1.43 mm·d-1), mainly in months of lower evaporative demand (from May to July). Because of these tendencies, this method cannot be used in its original form to estimate ET for this region;therefore, a calibration of radiation adjustment coefficient (kRs) was performed. The calibrated Hargreaves-Samani method (EToHSc) had better performance (RMSE = 0.52 mm·d-1), being suitable for predicting ETo in this region.

Objective:To evaluate antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of saline extract from Tithonia diversifolia leaves by phytochemical bioprospecting,and investigate its safety against animal ***:The saline extract was prepared,with NaCl(0.15 M),by constant stirring of the dried and pulverized leaves,followed by volume reduction by *** extract was phytochemical characterized using ultra-performance liquid chromatography,and total phenol and flavonoid analysis also was *** antioxidant capacity was determined through DPPH*radical,the antimicrobial property was evaluated against standard bacteria and fungi,and the viability assays were performed against mice ***:Fifteen compounds were identified belonging to two main classes terpenoids and *** extract showed 22.185 mg GAE/g of total phenolic compounds and 3.220 mg QE/g of ***,extract showed higher antioxidant ability similar to butylated hydroxytoluene a standard molecule[(3.042±0.019)mg AAE/g and(4.12±0.10)mg AAE/g to saline extract and butylated hydroxytoluene,respectively].The antimicrobial assays demonstrated that the extract had a significant antifungal potential against Candida species and could be used with safety against mice splenocytes,in concentrations lower than 50μg/mL,promoting higher proliferation in these ***:Saline extract from Tithonia diversifolia leaves presents potential antioxidant,antifungal properties and induces immunostimulation in mice splenocytes.
