Structural optimization of patient-specific temporomandibular joint replacement implants for additive manufacturing:novel metrics for safety evaluation and biomechanical performance

Total temporomandibular joint(TMJ)replacement is recommended only when there is irreversible damage to the joint and no conservative treatment can provide functional *** stock and custom-made TMJ implants have been made available;however,retrospective and comparative studies were unable to find significant differences between the two types of *** introduction of additive manufacturing(AM)techniques in medical practice allows for a greater freedom of design and a higher degree of device *** combination of AM with structural optimisation may streamline development and provide the key for fabricating biomechanic ally enhanced TMJ *** this study,structural optimis ation techniques were applied to develop and numerically validate a patient-specific TMJ *** biomechanical behaviour of each intermediate TMJ design was assessed under four different nominal and maximum biting tasks using finite element *** addition,a new set of metrics were proposed to compare each design regarding biomechanical performance and implant *** results suggest that 55-82%of the natural/intact strain patterns can be recovered with the finally selected TMJ *** represents an increase of 15%in biomechanical performance for incisor biting,15%for right molar biting,17%for left molar biting and a decrease of 2%for left group biting compared with the initial *** results also suggest that load transfer at the proximal ramus reduces the implant’s impact on the mandible’s strain ***,structural optimisation allows for a volume reduction of up to 44%with a minimum loss of implant safety and biomechanical performance.

Managing inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)is becoming increasingly complex and personalized,considering the advent of new advanced therapies with distinct mechanisms of *** mucosal healing(MH)is a pivotal therapeutic goal in IBD management and can prevent IBD progression and reduce flares,hospitalization,surgery,intestinal damage,and colorectal *** proactive disease and therapy assessment is essential to achieve better control of intestinal inflammation,even if subclinical,to alter the natural course of *** monitoring of fecal calprotectin(Fc)levels and interval endoscopic evaluations are cornerstones for evaluating response/remission to advanced therapies targeting IBD,assessing MH,and detecting subclinical ***,we comment on the article by Ishida et al Moreover,this editorial aimed to review the role of Fc and endoscopic scores in predicting MH in patients with ***,we intend to present some evidence on the role of these markers in future targets,such as histological and transmural *** prospective multicenter studies with a stricter MH criterion,standardized endoscopic and histopathological analyses,and virtual chromoscopy,potentially including artificial intelligence and other biomarkers,are desired.

Proton irradiation-induced cracking and microstructural defects in UN and (U,Zr)N composite fuels

Proton irradiation with a primary ion energy of 2 MeV was used to simulate radiation damage in UN and(U,Zr)N fuel *** pellets,nominally at room temperature,were irradiated to peak levels of 0.1,1,10 dpa and 100.0 dpa resulting in a peak hydrogen concentration of at most 90 at.%.Microstructure and mechanical properties of the samples were investigated and compared before and after *** irradiation induced an increase in hardness,whereas a decrease in Young’s modulus was observed for both *** characterization revealed irradiation-induced cracking,initiated in the bulk of the material,where the peak damage was deposited,propagating towards the ***,transmission electron microscopy was used to study irradiation *** loops and fringes were identified and observed to increase in density with increasing dose *** high density of irradiation defects and hydrogen implanted are proposed as the main cause of swelling and consequent sample cracking,leading simultaneously to increased hardening and a decrease in Young's modulus.

complexed amino acid minerals vs. bis-glycinate chelated minerals:Impact on the performance of old laying hens

The present study was to evaluate the effect of trace minerals(Zn, Mn, and cu) from complexed amino acid minerals(ZMcAA) and bis-glycinate chelated minerals(ZMcGly) in laying hen diets on performance,internal and external egg quality, yolk mineral deposition, intestinal morphometry, and bone characteristics. From 78 to 98 weeks of age, 400 White LSL-Lite strain laying hens were distributed in a randomized design with 4 treatments with 10 replicates per treatment. Treatments were distributed in a 2 ×2 factorial arrangement using either Zn, Mn, and cu of ZMcAA or ZMcGly source at 2 levels: low(20, 20,and 3.5 mg/kg of Zn, Mn, and cu, respectively) or high(40, 40, and 7 mg/kg of Zn, Mn, and cu,respectively). The analysis of variance was performed, and in cases where differences were observed, the means were compared using Tukey?s test(P ce and level of trace mineral supplementation had a significant impact on the performance of laying hens. Hens fed ZMcAA had higher egg production(P = 0.01), egg weight(P = 0.02), egg mass(P = 0.01), and lower feed conversion ratio(P =0.05) compared to those fed ZMcGly. The ZMcAA supplementation showed higher albumen height(P =0.01), albumen weight(P = 0.01), and eggshell thickness(P cu(P ceived ZMcAA. Tibia weight(P = 0.04)and bone densitometry(P cAA supplementation. In the small intestine, ZMcAA resulted in longer villi(P = 0.02) and shorter crypt depth(P = 0.01) in the *** and ileum measurements were influenced by the level and source of trace minerals(P cAA exhibited superior performance, egg quality, deposition of trace minerals in the egg yolk, and bone density compared to hens fed ZMcGly. In this study, older laying hens supplemented with ZMcAA at lower levels demonstrated adequate levels of supplementation.

Arroyo Verde epithermal deposit,in the North Patagonia region of Argentina,is located within the Lower chon Aike volcanism and is developed between 192.6±2.5 Ma(mineralization host rock)and 189.5±2.6 Ma(overlying lava).Marifil volcanic complex is the host rock for these veins,veinlets and *** particular small deposit has developed low to intermediate sulphidation characteristics,with gangue mineral textures associated with several ore *** probe microanalysis determines electrum,silver minerals such as acanthite,and tetrahedrite,related Ag-cu minerals like jalpaite,mckinstryite,stromeyerite,and base metals like chalcopyrite,sphalerite,galena and *** inclusions in quartz of two out of five events indicate that these Low Jurassic veins were formed due to subtle boiling and dilution mechanisms and by low-salinity(3.4 wt.%to 6.7 wt.%Nacl Eq)magmatic-hydrothermal fluid at 225 to 310℃.The fluid inclusion measurements that indicate boiling(Event 3)were plotted,and based on this data,we interpret that the Arroyo Verde deposit has been eroded between 550 and 700 *** particular character has not been previously recorded for other sectors of the eastern north Patagonian region.

carbon sequestration in a bamboo plantation:a case study in a Mediterranean area

In the Mediterranean region,despite bamboo being an alien species that can seriously alter plant and ani-mal biocoenosis,the area occupied by bamboo plantations continues to increase,especially for the purpose to seques-ter carbon(c).However,the c dynamics in the soil-plant system when bamboo is grown outside its native area are poorly *** we investigated the c mitigation potential of the fast-growing Moso bamboo(Phyllostachys edulis)introduced in Italy for climate-change *** analyzed aboveground(AGB)and belowground(as root/shoot ratio)biomass,litter and soil organic c(SOc)at O-15-and 15-30-cm depths in a 4-year-old bamboo plantation in comparison with the former annual cropland on which the bamboo was *** have an idea of the maximum c stored at an ecosystem level,a natural forest adjacent the two sites was also *** the plantation,c accumulation as AGB was stimulated,with 14.8±3.1 Mg c ha^(-1) stored in 3 years;because thinning was done to remove culms from the first year,the mean sequestration rate was 4.9 Mg c ha^(-1) a^(-1).The sequestration rates were high but comparable to other fast-growing tree species in Italy(e.g.,Pinus nigra).SOc was significantly higher in the bamboo plantation than in the cropland only at the 0-15 cm depth,but SOc stock did not *** 4 years were not enough time for a clear increase in SOc,or the high nutrient uptake by bamboos might have depleted the soil nutrients,thus inhibiting the soil organic matter formation by *** comparison,the natural forest had significantly higher c levels in all the *** c dynamics at an ecosystem level,the bamboo plantation on the former annual cropland led to substantial c removal from the atmosphere(about 12 Mg c ha^(-1) a^(-1)).However,despite the promising c sequestration rates by bamboo,its introduction should be carefully considered due to potential ecological problems caused by this species in overexploited environments such as the Med

Global pattern of conodont similarity and faunal constraints during the highstand of the Evae eustatic event(late Floian, Lower Ordovician)

One of the largest Ordovician sea-level rises is the Evae transgression, which occurs in the lower part of the Oepikodus evae Biozone, indicative of a late Floian age. Specifically, the characteristics associated with the highstand of this event included: a higher proportion of specimens of the index species O. evae than other species, a diversity acme in the evae Biozone, and a reduction of biogeographic barriers that resulted in a high proportion of species with cosmopolitan distribution. In the present contribution, the pattern of species similarity among Laurentia, Argentine Precordillera, Baltica, Kazakhstania, South china, and Australia is evaluated with a multiple coefficient analysis including only the sections that recorded the highstand of the Evae transgression. Moreover, the effect of possible terrestrial, latitudinal, physicochemical barriers and palaeogeographic distance on the species distribution is statistically analysed. Our results show a global pattern of conodont species distribution that is highly constrained by the tested palaeoenvironmental *** suggests that contrary to what was expected for a prominent transgression, faunal barriers did not decrease significantly during the Evae drowning peak.
