Long-read sequencing with nanopore technology has been widely utilized for the identification of the full-length sequence of RNA molecules."It is especially suitable for the identification of circular RNAs(circRNAs),which are regulatory molecules that are regarded as promising non-invasive biomarkers for various human malignancies,including breast cancer.2 The impact of circRNAs derived from the protein arginine methyltransferase 1(PRMT1)gene has not been clarified yet,even though the effect of PRMT1-mediated methylation on breast cancer cell characteristics has been well established.

In the Mediterranean region,despite bamboo being an alien species that can seriously alter plant and ani-mal biocoenosis,the area occupied by bamboo plantations continues to increase,especially for the purpose to seques-ter carbon(c).However,the c dynamics in the soil-plant system when bamboo is grown outside its native area are poorly *** we investigated the c mitigation potential of the fast-growing Moso bamboo(Phyllostachys edulis)introduced in Italy for climate-change *** analyzed aboveground(AGB)and belowground(as root/shoot ratio)biomass,litter and soil organic c(SOc)at O-15-and 15-30-cm depths in a 4-year-old bamboo plantation in comparison with the former annual cropland on which the bamboo was *** have an idea of the maximum c stored at an ecosystem level,a natural forest adjacent the two sites was also *** the plantation,c accumulation as AGB was stimulated,with 14.8±3.1 Mg c ha^(-1) stored in 3 years;because thinning was done to remove culms from the first year,the mean sequestration rate was 4.9 Mg c ha^(-1) a^(-1).The sequestration rates were high but comparable to other fast-growing tree species in Italy(e.g.,Pinus nigra).SOc was significantly higher in the bamboo plantation than in the cropland only at the 0-15 cm depth,but SOc stock did not *** 4 years were not enough time for a clear increase in SOc,or the high nutrient uptake by bamboos might have depleted the soil nutrients,thus inhibiting the soil organic matter formation by *** comparison,the natural forest had significantly higher c levels in all the *** c dynamics at an ecosystem level,the bamboo plantation on the former annual cropland led to substantial c removal from the atmosphere(about 12 Mg c ha^(-1) a^(-1)).However,despite the promising c sequestration rates by bamboo,its introduction should be carefully considered due to potential ecological problems caused by this species in overexploited environments such as the Med

Emissions from biomass burning challenge efforts to curb air pollution in cities downwind of fire-prone regions,as they contribute large amounts of brown carbon(Br c)and black carbon(Bc)*** investigated the patterns of Br c and Bc concentrations using Aethalometer data(atλ=370 and 880 nm,respectively)spanning four years at a site impacted by the outflow of *** data required to be post processed for the shadowing effect since,without correction,concentrations would be between 29%and 35%*** Br c concentrations were consistently higher than the Bc concentrations,indicating the prevalence of aerosols from biomass *** results were supported by the Angstrom coefficient(A_(370/880)),with values predominantly larger than 1(mean±standard deviation:1.25±0.31).A_(370/880)values below 1 were more prevalent during the wet season,which suggests a contribution from fossil fuel *** observed sharp Br c and Bc seasonal signals,with mean minimum concentrations of 0.40μg/m^(3)and 0.36μg/m^(3),respectively,in the wet season,and mean maximum concentrations of 2.05μg/m^(3)and 1.53μg/m^(3)in the dry *** largest concentrations were observed when northerly air masses moved over regions with a high density of fire *** burning of residential solid waste and industrial combustion caused extreme Br c and Bc concentrations under favourable wind *** neither pollutant is included in any ambient air quality standards,our results suggest that transboundary smoke may hamper efforts to meet the World Health Organization guidelines for fine particles.

BAcKGROUND There is concern regarding potential long-term cardiotoxicity with systemic distribution of metals in total joint arthroplasty(TJA)*** To determine the association of commonly used implant metals with echocardiographic measures in TJA *** The study comprised 110 TJA patients who had a recent history of high chromium,cobalt or titanium *** underwent two-dimensional,three-dimensional,Doppler and speckle-strain transthoracic echocardiography and a blood draw to measure metal *** and sex-adjusted linear and logistic regression models were used to examine the association of metal concentrations(exposure)with echocardiographic measures(outcome).RESULTS Higher cobalt concentrations were associated with increased left ventricular end-diastolic volume(estimate 5.09;95%cI:0.02-10.17)as well as left atrial and right ventricular dilation,particularly in men but no changes in cardiac *** titanium concentrations were associated with a reduction in left ventricle global longitudinal strain(estimate 0.38;95%cI:0.70 to 0.06)and cardiac index(estimate 0.08;95%cI,-0.15 to-0.01).cONcLUSION Elevated cobalt and titanium concentrations may be associated with structural and functional cardiac changes in some *** studies are warranted to better understand the systemic effects of metals in TJA patients.

The design,analysis,fabrication,and characterization of two distinct MEMS rotational structures are provided;these structures include a classical symmetrical lancet structure and a novel symmetrical c-shaped structure provided with a tilted arm,and both are actuated by thermal *** proposed c-shaped structure implemented a curved beam mechanism to enhance the movement delivered by the thermal *** geometrical parameters of our proposed device were optimized using the design of experiment(DOE)***,the analytical modeling based on castigliano’s second theorem and the simulations based on the finite element method(FEM)were used to predict the behavior of the symmetrical c-shaped structure;the results were in good agreement with each *** MEMS-based rotational structures were fabricated on silicon-on-insulator(SOI)wafers using bulk micromachining technology and deep reactive ion etching(DRIE)*** fabricated devices underwent experimental characterization;our results showed that our proposed MEMS rotational structure exhibited a 28%improvement in the delivered displacement compared to the symmetrical lancet ***,the experimental results showed good agreement with those obtained from numerical *** proposed structures have potential applications in a variety of MEMS devices,including accelerometers,gyroscopes,and resonators,due to their ability to maximize displacement and thus enhance sensitivity.
