The plant hormone ethylene plays various functions in plant growth, development and response to environmental stress. Ethylene is perceived by membranebound ethylene receptors, and among the homologous receptors in Arabidopsis, the ETR1 ethylene receptor plays a major role. The present study provides evidence demonstrating that Arabidopsis CPR5 functions as a novel ETR1 receptor-interacting protein in regulating ethylene response and signaling. Yeast split ubiquitin assays and bifluorescence complementation studies in plant cells indicated that CPR5 directly interacts with the ETR1 receptor. Genetic analyses indicated that mutant alleles of cpr5 can suppress ethylene insensitivity in both etr1-1 and etr1-2, but not in other dominant ethylene receptormutants. Overexpression of Arabidopsis CPR5 either in transgenic Arabidopsis plants, or ectopically in tobacco,significantly enhanced ethylene sensitivity. These findings indicate that CPR5 plays a critical role in regulating ethylene signaling. CPR5 is localized to endomembrane structures and the nucleus, and is involved in various regulatory pathways, including pathogenesis, leaf senescence, and spontaneous cell death. This study provides evidence for a novel regulatory function played by CPR5 in the ethylene receptor signaling pathway in Arabidopsis.

Evaluation and Improvement of an Organizational Resource Applying Strategy Patterns

For any software company that frequently performs quality assurance activities devoted to measurement, evaluation (ME) and change/improvement (MEC) projects, ME and MEC strategies can be valuable organizational assets. In this paper, we analyze the improvement of a ME strategy, which can be considered an organizational resource to be applied to quality assurance activities. This resource is called the GOCAME (Goal-Oriented Context-Aware Measurement and Evaluation) strategy. AME/MEC strategy embraces the next three integrated capabilities: 1) the ME/MEC domain conceptual base and framework;2) the process perspective specifications;and, 3) the method specifications. The improvement of GOCAME was performed instantiating two strategy patterns. A strategy pattern is a reusable solution to recurrent problems in ME/MEC projects. For an improvement goal, the selected MEC strategy pattern allows instantiating in a project a set of tailored activities and methods for measurement, evaluation, analysis and change. Particularly, we instantiate the GoME_1QV (Goal-oriented Measurement and Evaluation for One Quality View) strategy pattern to understand the GOCAME current quality state and compare it with the so-called GQM+ Strategies. First, this evaluation and analysis allows us to know the GOCAME strengths and weaknesses with regard to the quality of the three capabilities. Second, we instantiate the GoMEC_1QV (Goal-oriented Measurement, Evaluation and Change for One Quality View) strategy pattern to improve the GOCAME current state, producing as result a new version of the GOCAME strategy.

In the last decades we have witnessed a significant increase in the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and obesity in parallel. So 90% of patients with Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2) are obese. Changes in lifestyle (diet and exercise), behavioral therapies or the use of certain anti-obesity drugs have shown a limited effect and are not maintained over time. Currently, bariatric surgery is the most effective anti-obesity treatment, which is durable and resolves associated comorbidities. The surgical treatment of obesity for the modification of the anatomy of the digestive system is to produce gastric capacity constraints alone or associate with varying degrees of intestinal malabsorption and reduce body weight, improve and maintain the comorbidities associated weight loss by reduced food intake alone or in combination with malabsorption of this. The development of these surgical techniques has occurred in stages. With these techniques, setting to bariatric surgery is an effective, safe and proven procedure for the treatment of obesity and its complications especially DM2, as their post surgery referral mechanisms provide us with information for potential therapeutic treatment aimed at optimizing the control DM2 patients metabolic obese. In this review, we expose the evidence in treatment of DM2 with bariatric surgery and the actual hypothesis trying to explain how it is possible.

Appraisal of Five Clinical Guidelines for the Management of Hypertension in Andean Countries and Europe

There is global concern on the methodological limitations, transferability and effectiveness of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for chronic non-communicable diseases, particularly for hypertension. Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru have regularly produced CPGs;however no formal assessment has been done on their contents, transferability and effectiveness. The past decade saw significant migration from Andean countries to Europe. Knowing how European CPGs compare with those produced in Andean countries is necessary to recommend future changes targeted to the migrant population. A systematic search of CPGs was done on indexed databases and non-indexed publications. Recognized and approved CPGs were identified by technical officers in the Ministries of Health of the respective countries. The guidelines of the European Society of hypertension and four selected CPGs from the Andean countries were assessed by two independent evaluators using the “Agree II instrument for assessing clinical practice guidelines, AGREE II Consortium, May 2009”. Comparison of the CPGs is based on the six domain scores provided by the Agree II instrument. The overall score of CPGs ranged from 1.85 to 2.94 of 6 maximum possible. The European CPG scored highest in 3 of 6 domains compared, most notably in rigor of development. Average domain scores for clarity of presentation (0.84) and scope and purpose (0.64) were highest scores for applicability (0.30). Stakeholder involvement (0.28) and rigor of development (0.17) were the lowest. The CPGs assessed appear to fail meeting the standards of quality and pertinence. They show a progressive worsening from domains declaring good intentions of being clear, to those which measure their hard aspects and implications.

Objective:long-term survivors(lS)of non-small cell lung cancer(NSClC)without driver alterations,displaying an overall survival(OS)of more than 3 years,comprise around 10%of cases in several series treated with *** are classical prognosis factors for these cases[stage,Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG),etc.],but more data are required in the *** this multi-center study,we focused on lS of advanced NSClC with OS above 36 months to perform a clinical-pathological and molecular ***:In the first step,we conducted a clinical-pathological characterization of the ***,we carried out a genetic analysis by comparing lS to a sample of short-term survivors(SS)(with an OS less than 9 months).We initially used whole-genome RNA-seq to identify differentiating profiles of lS and SS,and later confirmed these with reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)for the rest of the ***:A total of 94 patients were included,who were mainly men,former smokers,having adenocarcinoma(AC)-type NSClC with an ECOG of *** obtained an initial differential transcriptome expression,displaying 5 over-and 33 under-expressed genes involved in different pathways:namely,the secretin receptor,surfactant protein,trefoil factor 1(T FF1),serpin,Ca-channels,and Tolllike receptor(TlRs)***,RT-PCR analysis of 40(20 lS/20 SS)samples confirmed that four genes(surfactant proteins and SFTP)were significantly down-regulated in SS compared to lS by using an analysis of covariance(ANCOVA)model:SFTPA1(P=0.023),SFTPA2(P=0.027),SFTPB{P=0.02),and SFT PC(P=0.047).Conclusions:We present a sequential genetic analysis of a sample of NSClClS with no driver alterations,obtaining a differential RNA-seq/RT-PCR profile showing an abnormal expression of SF genes.

Patients with diabetes are characterized by the development of cardiovascular complications: nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, ischemia or hypertensive etc. Therefore, the cardiovascular involvement is the leading cause of death in patients with Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2). Despite intensive treatment on classical factors of cardiovascular disease (blood pressure levels, lDl cholesterol, etc.), patients with diabetes have a high number of cardiovascular events and the onset and prognosis of these are related to glycemic control parameters, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c). On the other hand, the question of the cardiovascular protective effect of some hypoglycemic treatments has been raised, asking what he has done to know more accurately about the safety and cardiovascular effects of the treatments we have today. The two most important incretin hormones are GIP (gastric inhibitory polypeptide) and GlP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). Treatment based on GlP-1 is a novel weapon in T2DM that achieves a reduction in HbA1c with other metabolic effects: weight loss and extra effect in dyslipidemia and blood pressure. In the last years other beneficial actions such a protector effect against myocardium ischemia and other actions in basals were reported. In this article we will try to explain the evidence of GlP-1 treatments and its cardiovascular effects.

The objective of this study was to examine longitudinally the effects of exenatide on different physical and biochemical markers, evaluated in adult type 2 diabetic patients with cardiovascular risk. Data were recorded from 10 patients who attended the outpatient primary care health center mariano Iago Yecla, Murcia province, Spain in the period of December 2009 to October 2011 and who were treated with Byetta®. Differences were statistically significant (p 0.05) in HbA1c from the third month of treatment, and trends of decrease in body weight from the third week of treatment. There was a significant and better glycemic control. Overall effect was interpreted as a sensitizer drug of the parameters evaluated. Randomized studies are recommended with a minimum follow-up of 2 years, to see if the results are maintained over time.
