Background The benefits of exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation(EBCR)programs in post-acute myocardial infarction(AMI)patients have been *** aim was to assess the impact of EBCR in³70-years-old *** post-AMI *** We retrospectively evaluated patients who underwent a supervised EBCR protocol,twice a week during 6-12 *** evaluated changes in several outcomes based on pre-and post-CRP *** Of a total of 1607 patients,333(21%)were³*** the EBCR,an overall improvement on functional capacity,daily physical activity,lipid profile,body mass index,glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c),N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide(NT-pro-BNP)and C-reactive protein was observed in both younger and older patients(P<0.05).Older patients showed a smaller benefit on the increment of daily physical activity and lipid profile improvement,but a larger reduction in *** the multivariate analysis,only improvements on daily physical activity and HbA1c were dependent on *** As their younger counterparts,older patients,significantly improved functional capacity,metabolic parameters and level of daily physical activity after EBCR.

AIM: To investigate the effect of ascorbic acid (AA) dietary supplementation on myenteric neurons and epithelial cell proliferation of the jejunum of adult rats with chronic diabetes mellitus. METHODS: Thirty rats at 90 d of age were divided into three groups: Non-diabetic, diabetic and diabetic treated with AA (DA) (1 g/L). After 120 d of treatment with AA the animals were killed. The myenteric neurons were stained for myosin-V and analyzed quantitatively in an area of 11.2 mm2/animal. We further measured the cellular area of 500 neurons per group. We also determined the metaphasic index (MI) of the jejunum mucosa layer of about 2500 cells in the intestinal crypts, as well as the dimensions of 30 villi and 30 crypts/animal. The data area was analyzed using the Olympus BX40 microscope. RESULTS: There was an increase of 14% in the neuronal density (792.6 ± 46.52 vs 680.6 ± 30.27) and 4.4% in the cellular area (303.4 ± 5.19 vs 291.1 ± 6.0) respectively of the diabetic group treated with AA when compared to control diabetic animals. There were no signifi cant differences in MI parameters, villi height or crypt depths among the ***: Supplementation with AA in the diabetic animal promoted moderate neuroprotection. There was no observation of alteration of the cellular proliferation of the jejunum mucosa layer of rats with chronic diabetes mellitus with or without supplementation with AA.

Background: This study aimed to determine the litterfall production, accumulation, decomposition rate and nutrient stocks, and to estimate the soil carbon(C) and nitrogen(N) stocks in three palm swamp ecosystems with different land use intensities in the Southeast of ***: Three palm swamp ecosystems with different land use intensities were evaluated: Agua Doce(AD),conserved area;Capivara(CV), area with small agricultural practices;and Buriti Grosso(BG), area with an intensive land use. Produced and accumulated litterfall from the Cerrado areas surrounding the palm swamps were collected from October 2014 to September 2015, and the Ca, Mg, K, and P concentrations were determined in the dry and rainy seasons. Soil samples were collected in the surrounding Cerrado and within the palm swamps until 100 cm soil depth to determine bulk density and soil C and N contents and ***: Annual litterfall production in the Cerrado surrounding palm swamps was similar in AD(3.58 Mg·ha^-1·year^-1) and CV(3.79 Mg·ha^-1·year^-1), and was lower in BG(2.84 Mg·ha^-1·year^-1), and was more intense during the dry season. Furthermore, litterfall accumulation was higher in CV(7.12 Mg·ha^-1·year^-1) and BG(6.75 Mg·ha^-1·year^-1), culminating in lower decomposition rates. AD showed the highest decomposition rate(0.60) due to its vegetation structure and conservation. The macronutrient contents from the production and accumulated litterfall had a low influence of the land use, decreasing in the following order: Ca > K > Mg > P. Soils in CV and BG palm swamp areas showed higher values of C and N contents, due to the use of land for agricultural crops and cattle raising in an extensive(rangeland) system. The negative cardiorespiratory health outcomes due to extreme temperatures and air pollution are widely stud-ied,but knowledge about the effectiveness of the implementation of adaptive mechanisms remains *** objective of this paper is to explore the evidence of adaptive mechanisms for cardiorespiratory diseases regard-ing extreme temperatures and air pollution by comparing the results of two systematic literature review(SLR)processes sharing the same initial research question but led by two research groups with different academic back-grounds working in the same multidisciplinary *** start by presenting the methodological procedures and the results of the SLR triggered by the research group mainly composed by researchers with a background in ge-ography(named geographical strategy).We then compare these results with those achieved in the SLR led by the research group with a background in epidemiology(named epidemiological strategy).Both SLR were developed under the EU Horizon 2020 Project“EXHAUSTION”.The results showed:1)the lack of evidence regarding the effectiveness of adaptation measures,namely due to the limited number of studies about the topic,the prepon-derance of studies dedicated to heat extremes or the unbalance between different adaptation measures;2)that the choice of search terms in the geographical strategy,despite being more comprehensive at first sight,ended up retrieving less results,but it brought new studies that can complement the results of the epidemiological ***,it is suggested that to strengthen the empirical evidence of the effectiveness of adaptation measures,powerful multidisciplinary teams should work together in the preparation of SLR in topics of great complexity,such as the one presented in this paper.

Antifungal activity of plant extracts with potential to control plant pathogens in pineapple

Objective:To evaluate the in vitro antifungal activity of extracts,resins,oils and mother tinctures from plants against the filamentous fungi Fusarium guttiforme(***)and Chalara paradoxa,and to evaluate the control of the pineapple fusariosis in situ using mother ***:The screening of the antifungal potential of 131 extract forms from 63 plant species was performed in vitro by using plate-hole *** control pineapple fusariosis in situ,preventive and post-infection treatments were performed on detached pineapple leaves of ***(susceptible).Results:The quantitative study indicated that among the 49 mother tincture samples analyzed,46% were effective against *** and 29% for the Chalara *** natural plant extracts,mother tincture of Glycyrrhiza glabra(MTGG1),mother tincture of Myroxylon balsamum(MTBT2),mother tincture of Aloe vera(MTAV3),mother tincture of Allium sativum(MTAS4),resin of Protium heptaphyllum(RESAM5) and crude extracts of Rhizophora mangle(CEMV6),exhibited an antifungal activity against *** the preventive treatment against pineapple fusariosis,MTAV3,MTAS4 and MTGG1 were statistically similar to the treatment with tebuconazol *** curative treatments with MTAV3,MTAS4,MTGG1 and MTBT2 presented similar activity to fungicide(P < 0.05).Conclusions:The findings of the present study concluded that mother tinctures can effectively control *** mother tincture extract of Myroxylon balsamum showed antifungal activity and was used here for the first time for inhibition of phytopathogenic *** study paves the way for the development of bioactive natural products with phytosanitary applications,with the added benefits of an environmentally safe and economically viable product.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is the most frequent cause of liver disease in the Western world. Furthermore, it is increasing worldwide, paralleling the obesity pandemic. Though highly frequent, only about one fifth of affected subjects are at risk of developing the progressive form of the disease, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis with fibrosis. Even in the latter, liver disease is slowly progressive, though, since it is so prevalent, it is already the third cause of liver transplantation in the United States, and it is predicted to get to the top of the ranking in few years. Of relevance, fatty liver is also associated with increased overall mortality and particularly increased cardiovascular mortality. The literature and amount of published papers on NAFLD is increasing as fast as its prevalence, which makes it difficult to keep updated in this topic. This review aims to summarize the latest knowledge on NAFLD, in order to help clinicians understanding its pathogenesis and advances on diagnosis and treatment.

The opening and spreading of the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and South America evolved during the Early Cretaceous and were preceded by dramatic tholeiitic(mafic)magmatism and minor silicic and alkaline *** features are presently recognized from the equatorial regions of Brazil and Africa to the Falklands and South *** southeastern South America,continental flood basalts and related plumbing systems constitute the ParanáMagmatic Province(PMP),whose African counterpart is the Etendeka Magmatic Province(EMP).In northeastern Brazil,dike swarms and sill complexes compose the Equatorial Atlantic Magmatic Province(EQUAMP).As a common feature,these provinces are chemically represented by two prevalent magma types:(1)tholeiitic basalts and basaltic andesites with lowTi(TiO_(2)~2 wt.%)and incompatible element *** Ti tholeiites are relevant in the northern PMP and EMP,and dominant in *** rocks(SiO_(2)=57-65 wt.%)interpreted as byproducts of assimilation and/or fractional crystallization(AFC)processes from high Ti tholeiitic magmas,are scarce(but present)in all three *** accurate analysis of multivariable databases collected from the literature for dikes and sills,including major and trace element and radiogenic isotope data,reveals close similarities in their geochemical *** a paleogeographic reconstruction of West Gondwana,the intrusive remnants of the PMP,EMP and EQUAMP are spread over an area of nearly 10×10^(6)km^(2).forming perhaps the most extensive set of plumbing systems on Earth,with a relatively consistent chronology based on a vast collection of K-Ar and^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar data available in the *** work provides the first c
