Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disabling disease that can affect 6% to 12% of the adult population and more than a third of people over 65 years of age. Purpose: To assess whether a group of people with hand osteoarthritis (hOA) who received different types of treatment improved their function after two years of follow-up. method: The entire sample (n = 97) underwent three follow-up assessments regarding anthropometric parameters of the upper limbs and ability to perform functional activities. Subsequently, the sample was divided into two groups for the intervention periods, called the first Period (n = 73) and the Second Period (n = 24);the first Period kept the same protocol with orientations, and the Second Period went to an intervention with orientation strength exercises and use of orthosis. findings: In the separate analysis of the three questions of the DASH pain module, no differences were found between the assessment moments for groups of guidelines, treatment, or symptoms. Significant effects were observed for f(2, 162) = 3.5, p = 0.033, η2 = 0.04, and interaction for moments and intervention f(2, 162) = 4.3, p = 0.016, η2 = 0.05. Implications: It can be concluded that only guidance treatment does not benefit patients with hand osteoarthritis. In contrast, guidance, exercise, and orthosis treatment can significantly improve the disease.

Analysis of the histologic features in the differential diagnosis of intrahepatic neonatal cholestasis

AIm:To compare the histologic features of the liver in intrahepatic neonatal cholestasis(IHNC)with infectious,genetic-endocrine-metabolic,and idiopathic etiologies. mETHODS:Liver biopsies from 86 infants with IHNC were *** inclusion criteria consisted of jaundice beginning at 3 mo of age and a hepatic biopsy during the 1st year of *** following histologic features were evaluated:cholestasis,eosinophilia,giant cells,erythropoiesis,siderosis,portal fibrosis,and the presence of a septum. rESULTS:Based on the diagnosis,patients were classified into three groups:group 1(infectious;n=18),group 2(genetic-endocrine-metabolic;n=18),and group 3(idiopathic;n=50).There were no significant differences with respect to the following variables:cholestasis,eosinophilia,giant cells,siderosis,portalfibrosis,and presence of a septum.A significant difference was observed with respect to erythropoiesis,which was more severe in group 1(fisher's exact test,P=0.016). CONCLUSION:A significant difference was observed in IHNC of infectious etiology,in which erythropoiesis was more severe than that in genetic-endocrine-metabolic and idiopathic etiologies,whereas there were no significant differences among cholestasis,eosinophilia,giant cells,siderosis,portal fibrosis,and the presence of a septum.

Drying of pasty and granular materials in mechanically and conventional spouted beds

A contactor vessel was built to operate as either a mechanically or a conventional spouted bed for the purpose of analyzing the drying of pasty and granular materials under comparable conditions in both configurations. A classical conical–cylindrical spouted bed with a 60° conical base and an air inlet central orifice was modified to enable the switch by introducing in the vessel’s center an open helicoidal conveyor screw placed above the air inlet orifice. This screw is removable and conveniently returns the bed to its conventional spouted configuration. Experiments on drying solutions (calcium carbonate suspensions and skimmed milk) and granular materials (porous alumina particles) were performed for various bed parameter settings. The spouting pressure drop, outlet air temperature, and relative humidity were measured over time under different conditions. mechanical agitation is proved effective in drying diluted carbonate calcium liquid suspensions and coarse porous alumina particles at an air velocity approximately 50% lower in comparison to drying in a conventional spouted bed. The conventional spouted bed performed better at drying liquid skimmed milk as the mechanical agitation combined with the axial inlet air flow is not effective in mitigating sticking and powder agglomeration in the bed when handling pastes of complex composition. Introducing mechanical agitation in the designed setup broadens the operating range of a conventional spouted bed with axial air flow in the inlet.

Structural and functional Studies of the mitochondrial Cysteine Desulfurase from Arabidopsis thaliana

AtNfsl is the Arabidopsis thaliana mitochondrial homolog of the bacterial cysteine desulfurases NifS and IscS, having an essential role in cellular fe-S cluster assembly. Homology modeling of AtNfslm predicts a high global similarity with E. coil IscS showing a full conservation of residues involved in the catalytic site, whereas the chloroplastic AtNfs2 is more similar to the Synechocystis sp. SufS. Pull-down assays showed that the recombinant mature form, AtNfslm, specifically binds to Arabidopsis frataxin （AtfH）. A hysteretic behavior, with a lag phase of several minutes, was observed and hysteretic parameters were affected by pre-incubation with AtfH. moreover, AtfH modulates AtNfslm kinetics, increasing Vmax and decreasing the S0.5 value for cysteine. results suggest that AtfH plays an important role in the early steps of fe-S cluster formation by regulating AtNfsl activity in plant mitochondria.

The deployment of hydrogen as an energy carrier is found to be a vital alternative fuel for the future. It is expected that water electrolysis, powered by renewable energy sources, be able to scale-up hydrogen production. However, the reaction kinetic of oxygen evolution reaction(OEr) is a sluggish process, which predominantly limits the efficiency of water electrolysis. This review recapitulates the recent progress and efforts made in the design and development of two selected earth-abundant bimetallic electrocatalysts(Ni Co and Co fe) for alkaline OEr. Each bimetal electrocatalyst is thoroughly outlined and discussed in five sub-sections, including bimetal(oxy) hydroxides, Layered double hydroxides(LDHs) structures,oxides, composites, alloy and nanostructured electrocatalysts, and assembled with ***, a brief introduction to an in situ/operando characterization techniques and advantages for monitoring the structure of the electrocatalysts is provided. finally, a summary outlining the challenges and conceivable approaches to advance OEr performance is highlighted and discussed.

The opening and spreading of the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and South America evolved during the Early Cretaceous and were preceded by dramatic tholeiitic(mafic)magmatism and minor silicic and alkaline *** features are presently recognized from the equatorial regions of Brazil and Africa to the falklands and South *** southeastern South America,continental flood basalts and related plumbing systems constitute the Paranámagmatic Province(PmP),whose African counterpart is the Etendeka magmatic Province(EmP).In northeastern Brazil,dike swarms and sill complexes compose the Equatorial Atlantic magmatic Province(EQUAmP).As a common feature,these provinces are chemically represented by two prevalent magma types:(1)tholeiitic basalts and basaltic andesites with lowTi(TiO_(2)ransitional Ti tholeiites with TiO_(2)~2.7-1.7 wt.%,and low incompatible element *** type is predominantly found in the southern PmP and EmP,with minor occurrences in the EQUAmP.(2)Tholeiitic basalts and basaltic andesites with high Ti(TiO_(2)>~2 wt.%)and incompatible element *** Ti tholeiites are relevant in the northern PmP and EmP,and dominant in *** rocks(SiO_(2)=57-65 wt.%)interpreted as byproducts of assimilation and/or fractional crystallization(AfC)processes from high Ti tholeiitic magmas,are scarce(but present)in all three *** accurate analysis of multivariable databases collected from the literature for dikes and sills,including major and trace element and radiogenic isotope data,reveals close similarities in their geochemical *** a paleogeographic reconstruction of West Gondwana,the intrusive remnants of the PmP,EmP and EQUAmP are spread over an area of nearly 10×10^(6)km^(2).forming perhaps the most extensive set of plumbing systems on Earth,with a relatively consistent chronology based on a vast collection of K-Ar and^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar data available in the *** work provides the first c

Pancreatic head excavation for tissue diagnosis may reduce unnecessary pancreaticoduode- nectomies in the setting of chronic pancreatitis

BACKGrOUND： The necessity to obtain a tissue diagnosis of cancer prior to pancreatic surgery still remains an open debate. In fact, a non-negligible percentage of patients under- going pancreaticoduodenectomy （PD） for suspected cancer has a benign lesion at final histology. We describe an approach for patients with diagnostic uncertainty between cancer and chronic pancreatitis, with the aim of minimizing the incidence of PD for suspicious malignancy finally diagnosed as benign disease. mETHODS： Eighty-eight patients （85.4%） with a clinicoradio- logical picture highly suggestive for malignancy received for- mal PD （group 1）. fifteen patients （14.6%） in whom preopera- tive diagnosis was uncertain between pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis underwent pancreatic head excavation （PHEX） for intraoperative tissue diagnosis （group 2）： those diagnosed as having cancer received PD, whereas those with chronic pancreatitis received pancreaticojejunostomy （P]）. rESULTS： No patient received PD for benign disease. All pa- tients in group I had adenocarcinoma on final histology. Eight patients of group 2 （53.3%） received PD after intraoperative diagnosis of cancer, whereas 7 （46.7%） received PJ because no malignancy was found at introperative frozen sections. No signs of cancer were encountered in patients receiving PHEX and PJ after a median follow-up of 42 months. Overall survival did not differ between patients receiving PD for cancer in the group 1 and those receiving PD for cancer after PHEX in the group 2 （P=0.509）. CONCLUSION： Although the described technique has been used in a very selected group of patients, our results suggest that PHEX for tissue diagnosis may reduce rates of unnecessary PD, when the preoperative diagnosis is uncertain between cancer and chronic pancreatitis.

碲化镉的相对分子量为240,密度为5.885 g/cm^(3),熔点为1092℃。碲化镉是一种Ⅱ-Ⅵ族的化合物半导体材料,属于直接带隙型,带隙宽度为1.56 eV。碲化镉是制造X射线、伽马射线和红外线探测器的基本材料。对碲化镉的特别关注主要是由于其大原子数和大的光电吸收截面。在基于CdTe的伽马辐射势垒探测器结构中,其表面的处理方法之一是纳秒激光照射,在某些情况下,纳秒激光照射可以在触点(Ag、In、Au)和势垒形成的技术处理阶段优化所需的表面参数。另一种方法是在脉冲激光照射下在碲化镉表面形成有序的纳米结构。对基于半导体及其结构的脉冲激光器,可根据其不同的脉冲持续时间τ_(p)和辐射波长λ将其分类。例如,红宝石激光器(λ=694 nm)、钕激光器(一次谐波1064 nm和两次谐波532 nm)、准分子Krf激光器(248 nm)和Xef激光器(351 nm)等,其脉冲持续时间分别为7、20、80、120 ns。这些激光器常被应用于表面修饰等领域。因此,往往有必要事先知道或至少估计在脉冲激光辐射下碲化镉表面的熔化温度和阈值,这取决于激光脉冲持续时间τ_(p)、辐射波长(光吸收系数α(λ))以及碲化镉表面本身的电物理参数,特别是表面重组率S和非平衡电荷载流子的寿命。这些参数取决于表面处理的方法和掺杂物的浓度。在上述情况下,实验研究是非常耗费人力和时间的,因此基于τ_(p)、α(λ)和碲化镉表面本身的电物理参数对融化阈值th和表面温度进行理论计算变得非常重要。本工作采用激光照射碲化镉,辐射波长为300~800 nm,脉冲持续时间为7~120 ns。为了以非破坏性的和有效的方法来管理接近表面层状态的CdTe,在T=80 K下进行了光致发光实验。为了监测熔化阈值,研究了由Acrorad公司制造和抛光的尺寸为5 mm×5 mm×0.5 mm的Cl补偿p-CdTe(111)单晶的光致发光光谱。经过研究发现,在激光脉冲寿命从7ns到1μs的范围内,CdTe熔化阈值明显取决于光吸收系数α(λ)。因为在脉冲寿命长于1μs的情况下,热扩散深度明显大于CdTe中的激光辐射穿透深度,并开始依赖于反射系数r(λ)。对于较短的激光脉冲长度τ_(p),当辐射波长λ变化时,熔化阈值会发生显著变化。同时,非平衡过剩载流子参数的变化(如表面重组速度S从10^(3)m/s增加到10^(5)m/s,还有扩散深度LD从0.4μm增加到2μm)会对CdTe熔化阈值产生至少25%的影响。而且红宝石激光的脉冲持续时间在(20±5)ns区间内的变化导致相对熔化阈值的变化(ΔIth/Ith)为35%。CdTe熔化阈值的计算值可以有效地被用于优化脉冲激光对晶体的表面处理与掺杂。
