Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the sixth most common malignancy in women. Ovarian tumors consist of several clinical and pathological entities that share an anatomic site. The gold standard treatment, both in front-line and in adjuvant setting, is represented by carboplatin/paclitaxel combination. Conversely, the second-line treatment is not well defined. The response to platinum is the major prognostic factor for survival. In this review we discuss the current views on platinum-refractory/resistant patient treatment only, which includes patients progressing or relapsing within 6 months from the last platinum-based course. Concerning this subgroup, the activity of several conventional drugs was confirmed in different trials without a significant impact in terms of overall survival. In the last years particular emphasis was given to targeted anti-angiogenetic therapy which produced a survival improvement with an acceptable toxicity profile. New “ad hoc” approaches, with a major attention to outcome-predictive factors, are eagerly awaited.

Introduction: Skin toxicity is a frequent side effect of radio and chemo-treatments in patients treated for breast cancer after conservative surgery. The aim of this paper is to report our experience in the management of skin toxicity evaluating radiotherapy planning and using preventive local aids. Materials and Methods: We have observed 300 patients undergoing radiotherapy. All received the prescription of a prophylactic moisturizing cream. Skin toxicity was valuated according to Acute Radiation Morbidity Scoring Criteria of the RTOG. Moreover, in a subgroup of 100 patients, we correlated the study of breast volume and features of treatment plans, with the addition of topic prophylactic treatment, using an oral therapy based on Resveratrol, Lycopene, Vitamin C and Anthocyanins (Ixor?). In another subgroup, 100 patients were subjected to corneometry assessing numerically skin hydration before, during and after radiotherapy. Results: In all patients, we related skin toxicity and the type of cream used. All patients completed the radiotherapy treatment, and G4 cutaneous toxicity was not observed in any of them. In patients treated with topic treatment and therapy based on Resveratrol, Lycopene, Vitamin C and Anthocyanins (Ixor?), the protective effect of (Ixor?) is more detected in patients with PTV (Planning Target Volume) <500 ml, when Dmax reaches values lower or equal to 107%, but not exceeding 110% of the prescribed dose, and in patients undergoing adjuvant chemotherapy with anthracyclines and taxanes. The values of corneometry allow us to evaluate the moisturizing effect for products used, and identify cases of skin toxicity in a first phase. Conclusions: Our study confirms the value of moisturizers in the prevention and resolution of radiotherapy-induced skin damage. An instrumental assessment of skin hydration with corneometry can help the radiation oncologist to use strategies that prevent the onset of toxicity of high degree.

Research has shown that dissatisfied couples in the relationship commonly exhibit facial expressions of contempt in interactions. At this point, based on the study of cognition and physiology, researchers were able to predict by longitudinal studies the probability of divorce in a marriage, with accuracy of up to 94%. Our objective was to investigate whether the occurrence of facial expressions of disgust and contempt in married women is associated with marital dissatisfaction. This is an experimental study that correlated, through filmed interviews, the frequency of facial expressions of disgust and disgust (Facial Action Coding System) to the Marital State’s Golombok Rust Inventory, in a sample composed of 20 women. Data analysis based on the Spearman Correlation Test showed a positive correlation between facial expressions of disgust and disdain and conjugal dissatisfaction (rs = 0.2198, p = 0.0280), corroborating the data in the literature.

AIM To uncover novel genetic markers that could contribute to predicting hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)susceptibility in Caucasians. METHODS The present retrospective case-control study compared genotype frequencies between a cohort of HCC cases and two,independent,HCC-free,age/sex-matched control *** HCC cohort comprised 192 homogeneous patients that had undergone orthotopic liver *** first control group comprised167 patients that were matched to the HCC cohort for the percentage of hepatitis B(HBV)and/or hepatitis C(HCV)infections.A second control group included192 virus-free,healthy individuals that were used to evaluate the generalizability of the identified predictive *** cases and controls were *** three study populations were characterized with a panel of 31 markers derived from 21 genes that encoded key proteins involved in hepatocarcinogenesis-related *** study end-point was to assess the association between genetic variants and HCC onset. AIM:To investigate the effect of quercetin supplementation on the myenteric neurons and glia in the cecum of diabetic ***:Total preparations of the muscular tunic were prepared from the ceca of twenty-four rats divided into the following groups:control(C),control supplemented with quercetin(200 mg/kg quercetin body weight)(CQ),diabetic(D)and diabetic supplemented with quercetin(DQ).Immunohistochemical double staining technique was performed with HuC/D(general population)/nitric oxide synthase(nNOS),HuC-D/S-100and *** analysis of the general neuronal population HuC/D-IR,the nNOS-IR(nitrergic subpopulation)and the enteric glial cells(S-100)was performed,and the morphometry and the reduction in varicosity population(VIP-IR)in these populations were ***:Diabetes promoted a significant reduction(25%)in the neuronal density of the HuC/D-IR(general population)and the nNOS-IR(nitrergic subpopulation)compared with the C *** also significantly increased the areas of neurons,glial cells and VIP-IR *** with quercetin in the DQ group prevented neuronal loss in the general population and increased its area(P<0.001)and the area of nitrergic subpopulation(P<0.001),when compared to C *** induced a VIP-IR and glial cells areas(P<0.001)in DQ group when compared to C,CQ and D ***:In diabetes,quercetin exhibited a neuroprotective effect by maintaining the density of the general neuronal population but did not affect the density of the nNOS subpopulation.

This study aimed to describe structure, functionality and development of pediatric heart transplant families, from the understanding of the experienced chronic condition. A descriptive, exploratory study using a qualitative approach was developed in a hospital situated in a city of Northeast Brazil, in 2012. The study was conducted with three families, using the Calgary Family Assessment Model (CFAM). In addition to the genogram, an analysis of the children’s/adolescents’ family members was conducted at the time of interview. Two families were binuclear families and one was mononuclear. From the evaluation, it was possible to determine the care and support network of children and adolescents with heart transplants, as well as some difficulties faced by the investigated families. Nurses are important in this family context since the visualization of the family genogram can generate a change in the nursing care to each family.

Favelas and other types of informal settlements are important urban issues in several regions around the world,especially in developing *** are the housing solution found by populations with no access to formal real estate market,who still suffer with the precariousness of both buildings and urban *** paper presents a brief overview on governmental policies for favelas in the city of Rio de Janeiro along the 20th century,until the present moment,to observe hits and misses and present a morphological study about Rocinha,the biggest favela in *** work is based on the principles of Shape Grammar and demonstrates patterns of composition,organized in sets of rules that allow producing new *** intention is to create a proposal for an objective reading of typical favela spaces,to determine standards and rules that may contribute to architectural and urban designs that are more adequate to the populations they are designed for.

Background: The present work is aimed at evaluating the effect of different inclusion levels of a partially defatted black soldier fly(Hermetia illucens,L.;HI) larva meal for ducks.A total of 192 female 3-day-old Muscovy ducklings(Cairina moschata domestica,Canedins R71 L White,Grimaud Freres Selection,France) were divided into 4 groups,assigned 4 different dietary treatments(6 replicates/treatment and 8 birds/replicate) and reared from 3 to 50 days of *** larva meal was included at increasing levels(0,3%,6% and 9%,HI0,HI3,HI6 and HI9,respectively) in isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets formulated for 3 feeding phases: starter(3–17 days of age),grower(18–38 days of age) and finisher(39–50 days of age).The growth performance and apparent total tract digestibility were evaluated during the trial using titanium dioxide as an inert marker(0.3% of inclusion).At 51 days of age,two birds per pen were slaughtered and histomorphological investigations were ***: The live weight and average daily gain showed a quadratic response to increasing HI meal in the grower period(minimum corresponding to the HI6 group).No effects of dietary inclusion levels were observed for the daily feed intake or feed conversion *** apparent dry matter and organic matter digestibility were not affected by the dietary treatment.A linear decrease was observed for the crude protein apparent digestibility in the starter period(minimum for the HI9 groups).The ether extract apparent digestibility increased linearly during the grower and finisher periods(minimum for the HI0 group).The morphometric indices were not influenced by the dietary ***: The inclusion of up to 9% of HI partially defatted larva meal in the diet of ducks did not cause any effect on growth performance,as well as the apparent ***,dietary HI inclusion preserved the physiological intestinal development.
