Epidemicity indices and reproduction numbers from infectious disease data in connected human populations

We focus on distinctive data-driven measures of the fate of ongoing *** relevance of our pursuit is suggested by recent results proving that the short-term temporal evolution of infection spread is described by an epidemicity index related to the maximum instantaneous growth rate of new infections,echoing concepts and tools developed to study the reactivity of *** epidemicity indices can showcase the dynamics of infections,together with commonly employed effective reproduction numbers,especially when the latter assume values less than *** particular,epidemicity evaluates the short-term reactivity to perturbations of a disease-free ***,we show that sufficient epidemicity thresholds to prevent transient epidemic outbreaks in a spatially connected setting can be estimated by generalizing existing analogues derived when spatial effects are *** specifically account for the discrete nature,in both space and time,of surveillance data of the type typically employed to estimate effective reproduction numbers that formed the bulk of the communication of the state of the cOVID-19 pandemic and its *** analyzing the effects of spatial heterogeneity on the considered prognostic indicators,we perform a short-and long-term analysis on the cOVID-19 pandemic in Italy,showing that endemic conditions were maintained throughout the duration of our simulation despite stringent control *** method provides a portfolio of prognostic indices that are essential to pinpoint the ongoing pandemic in both a qualitative and quantitative manner,as our results *** base our conclusions on extended investigations of the effects of spatial fragmentation of communities of different sizes owing to connectivity by human mobility and contact scenarios,within real geographic contexts and synthetic setups designed to test our framework.

This work first investigates the corrosion-inhibiting behavior of montmorillonite K-10 on reinforcing steel. The corrosion-inhibiting power of the clay (Montmorillonite) is determined in a medium Hcl (c = 1N) using free corrosion potential monitoring, Tafel potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results of this study showed a satisfactory corrosion-inhibiting efficiency of around 72.665% for the optimum content of 1%. This is due to the presence of a stable oxide layer that protects the metal against corrosion. To validate the concept of montmorillonite as a corrosion inhibitor in repair mortar, we now turn to the influence of montmorillonite on the mechanical properties of mortars in the hardened state. In this part, montmorillonite K-10 is added to the mortar by partial substitution of the cement by 5% and 10% of the cement mass. The aim of this study is to ensure that the addition of this clay to the mortar composition will not have a negative effect on its compressive and flexural strengths. The results of the compression and flexural tests showed that the presence of montmorillonite in the mortar improved flexural and compressive strengths for the different compositions studied.

Renewable energies are of major interest due to their inexhaustible and clean nature, with minimal impact on the environment. Numerous technological pathways exist in this field, each distinguished by the materials used and their implementation principles. However, the cost-efficiency ratio remains a significant challenge for researchers. currently, organic materials are gaining popularity due to their relatively low cost. However, their performance, particularly in terms of conversion efficiency, still requires improvements. This study focuses on optimizing the organic photovoltaic cell ITO/MoO3/cARAPA/PcBM/Alq3/Al using ScAPS. Several parameters were considered, such as layer thickness, recombination center density, and doping, to improve the cell’s performance. The optimal parameters obtained include an efficiency of 3%, a fill factor of 81.67%, an open-circuit voltage of 1610 mV, and a short-circuit current of 2.28 mA/cm2. The study also revealed that doping the phenyl-c61-butyric acid methyl ester (PcBM) layer has a significant impact on efficiency and short-circuit current, improving these parameters up to a certain point before causing degradation due to increased recombination. Furthermore, high doping of the tri (8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3) layer improves performance up to a critical threshold, after which degradation is also observed. In contrast, doping the molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) layer does not have a notable impact on cell performance. Regarding the thickness of the active carapaprocera (cARAPA) and PcBM layers, non-optimal values lead to a decrease in performance. Similarly, an optimal thickness of the Alq3 layer significantly improves efficiency. These results highlight the importance of parameter optimization to maximize the efficiency of organic solar cells.

The urban resilience concept was introduced in 2016 as a key concept in the Habitat III New Urban Agenda for the next 20 *** wonder how this urban resilience concept was elaborated and who influenced it the most?The preparatory events structured several stakeholders’*** relations between stakeholders allowed the flow of ideas in the consultation and production *** influential stakeholders strongly oriented definition of urban resilience concepts by taking power in the networking process of the consecutive *** paper analyzes the network of stakeholders/concepts,during the building process between 2012 and 2016(5,539 discourses from 290 stakeholders,in 357 events).The application of textual mining and machine learning topic modelling algorithm exposed the structure of the principal topics for building the concept of urban resilience,and presented how relations of main stakeholders with funders was crucial for the investment in policy ***,we underlined for the first time in an empirical way,different kinds of actors’power in the construction process that supported the Habitat III resilience *** demonstrated how far some official stakeholders,but also external and private ones,oriented the construction of ideologies to validate the knowledge that supported the related actions in laboratory cities.

The aim of this essay is to analyze the first story by Zhang Xiaofeng, Taiwan writer, playwright, known in the mainland of china mainly as an excellent essayist. The Wailing Wall （Kuqiang） was written in 1968 in the atmosphere of the Six Days War in Israel, the atrocities during the first years of the cultural Revolution in the mainland of china, and war in Vietnam, Wailing Wall is a poetic symbol of sadness and suffering mostly of the innocent people. For the author of the story it is reminiscent of the biblical Psalm 137 depicting the moods of the Hebrews in the Babylonian captivity after 586 B.c. and the situation of her compatriots who were forced to leave their old homes in the Mainland before Oct. 1, 1949. Zhang Xiaofeng is a christian author regarding love as the cornerstone of inter-human relations. She believes in love of God for all human beings and in the universal love. The short story consisting of one woman and her relations with two brothers between October 1949 and June 1967, against the background what happened in the world around them, and in their vicinity, brought her an unpleasant cognition： The true love is hardly possible where the human beings should live between, or behind the walls, where hate is prevailing.

Larch wood is structurally classifi ed in many countries as one of conifers with the highest load-bearing capacity(strength class of c30).The Spanish visual classifi cation regulation only assigns a strength class to 4 pine woods:Laricio pine(Pinus nigra ***),Silvestre pine(Pinus sylvestris L.),Radiata pine(Pinus radiata ***),and Pinaster pine(Pinus pinaster Ait.).This work adds to the number of structurally characterised species by creating a visual classifi cation table for Japanese larch wood(Larix kaempferi(Lamb.)carr.)which diff erentiates between 2 visual classes,MEG-1 and *** strength values were calculated for each class(fk,MEG-1=31.80 MPa,f k,MEG-2=24.55 MPa),mean module of elasticity(E 0,mean,MEG-1=13,082 MPA,E 0,mean,MEG-2=12,320 MPA)and density(ρk,MEG-1=456.6 kg m−3,ρk,MEG-2=469.1 kg m−3),before fi nally assigning a strength class of c30 to visual class MEG-1,and a strength class of c24 to visual class MEG-2.

Estimating the Monetary Value of Hours Lost to the Nigerian Public Healthcare System When Full-Time Government Employee Doctors Engage in Dual Practice

Background: Dual Practice (DP) allows full-time public sector doctors to concurrently offer the same clinical services in the private sector. The debate against this practice seems to be largely influenced by its potential to reduce the contracted hours in the public sector and shift attention to private work. Purpose: The purpose of this secondary research is to estimate the monetary value of hours lost to the Nigerian public healthcare system when full-time government employee doctors are engaged in private practice. It attempts to quantify the amount of resource outflow from the public system due to absences and lateness arising from competition for time between the public system’s contracted hours and private practice. Methods: Sensitivity analysis in Excel 2010 was used to calculate doctors’ hourly pay in the public sector using the 2015 consolidated Medical Salary Structure for medical and dental officers in Nigeria’s federal public service. The parameters used for the calculation were the official 40-hour working week and the average monthly gross pay of doctors on different grade levels. Hypothetical scenarios of hours lost due to absences associated with DP were created. The value of different hypothetical hour losses by the percentage of doctors assumed to engage in dual practice across all doctor grade levels was then computed. Results: The estimated annual value of hours lost from dual practice to a single public tertiary care hospital was N4,851,754 or 15,855 USD (best case scenario) and N19,407,017 or 63,422 USD (worst case scenario) for the normal routine work and N1,800,133 or 5883 USD (best case scenario) and N3,600,266 or 11,766 USD (worst case scenario) for the on-call duty. conclusion: The government may have been paying salaries for large volumes of work not rendered in the public sector. The overall financial impact of dual practice in the Nigerian public system might be negative.

In this study,we identiﬁed the moisture sources for the precipitation associated with tropical cyclones(Tcs)during the rapid intensiﬁcation(RI)process from 1980 to 2018 by applying a Lagrangian moisture source diagnostic *** detected sixteen regions on a global scale for RI events distributed as follows:four in the North Atlantic(NATL),two in the central and East Paciﬁc Ocean(NEPAc),the North Indian Ocean(NIO)and South Indian Ocean(SIO),and three in the South Paciﬁc Ocean(SPO)and the Western North Paciﬁc Ocean(WNP).The moisture uptake(MU)mostly was from the regions where Tcs underwent *** Western NATL,tropical NATL,caribbean Sea,the Gulf of Mexico and the central America and Mexico landmass supported~85.4%of the precipitating moisture in the NATL,while the latter source and the eastern North Paciﬁc Ocean provided the higher amount of moisture in NEPAc(~84.3%).The Arabian Sea,the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Peninsula were the major moisture sources in NIO,contributing approximately 81.3%.The eastern and western parts of the Indian Ocean supplied most of the atmospheric humidity in SIO(~83.8%).The combined contributions(~87.9%)from the western and central SPO and the coral Sea were notably higher in ***,Tcs in the WNP basin mostly received moisture from the western North Paciﬁc Ocean,the Philippine Sea and the china Sea,accounting for 80.1%.The remaining moisture support in each basin came from the summed contributions of the remote ***,RI Tcs gained more moisture up to 2500 km from the cyclone centre than those slow intensiﬁcation(SI)and the total MU was approximately three times higher during RI than ***,the patterns of the MU differences respond to the typical pathways of moisture transport in each basin.

Fluoxetine(Prozac^(TM))is the only antidepressant approved by the US Food and Drug Administration(FDA)for the treatment of major depressive disorder(MDD)in *** its considerable efficacy as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor,the possible long-term effects of fluoxetine on brain development in children are poorly *** the current study,we aimed to delineate molecular mechanisms and protein biomarkers in the brains of juvenile rhesus macaques(Macaca mulatta)one year after the discontinuation of fluoxetine treatment using proteomic and phosphoproteomic *** identified several differences in protein expression and phosphorylation in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(DLPFc)and cingulate cortex(cc)that correlated with impulsivity in animals,suggesting that the GABAergic synapse pathway may be affected by fluoxetine *** in combination with the identified pathways contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying the chronic effects of fluoxetine after discontinuation in children.
