The purpose of this investigation was to determine the intestinal parasite prevalence in puppies from six different kennels;four kennels were in Guadalajara and Zapopan cities (Jalisco state) and two kennels were in Mexico City. From October 2006 to November 2007, we collected 441 fecal samples from 147 puppies, both male and female, ranging from 1 to 36 months of age. Three samples from every puppy were analyzed by using the Faust technique. The prevalence found were as follows: Giardia intestinalis (genotype A and B) 6.8%;Cystoisospora 21.08%;Uncinaria 7.48%;Toxocara canis 12.29% and multiparasitism (Giardia, Toxocara and Uncinaria) 4.76%. The highest prevalence for both Giardia and Cystoisospora were found in 2-3- month-old puppies;the highest prevalence for Toxocara canis was found in 3-4-month-old puppies. In the kennels of Mexico City we found mainly Giardia intestinalis, Cystoisospora to be most prevalent in Zapopan and Toxocara canis in Guadalajara. The high prevalence of intestinal parasites found in this study demonstrates an increased risk for infection in humans, as these animals are usually a common pet in many homes. This zoonotic phenomenon represents an important health problem for any community.

Human Myoblast Genome Therapy (HMGT) is a platform technology of cell transplantation, nuclear transfer, and tissue engineering. Unlike stem cells, myoblasts are differentiated, immature cells destined to become muscles. Myoblasts cultured from satellite cells of adult muscle biopsies survive, develop, and function to revitalize degenerative muscles upon transplantation. Injection injury activates regeneration of host myofibers that fuse with the engrafted myoblasts, sharing their nuclei in a common gene pool of the syncytium. Thus, through nuclear transfer and complementation, the normal human genome can be transferred into muscles of patients with genetic disorders to achieve phenotype repair or disease prevention. Myoblasts are safe and efficient gene transfer vehicles endogenous to muscles that constitute 50% of body weight. Results of over 280 HMGT procedures on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) subjects in the past 15 years demonstrated absolute safety. Myoblast-injected DMD muscles showed improved histology. strength increase at 18 months post-operatively averaged 123%. In another application of HMGT on ischemic cardiomyopathy, the first human myoblast transfer into porcine myocardium revealed that it was safe and effective. Clinical trials on approximately 220 severe cardiomyopathy patients in 15 countries showed a st subjects received autologous cells implanted on the epicardial surface during coronory artery bypass graft, or injected on the endomyocardial surface percutaneously through guiding catheters. significant increases in left ventricular ejection fraction, wall thickness, and wall motion have been reported, with reduction in perfusion defective areas, angina, and shortness of breath. As a new modality of treatment for disease in the skeletal muscle or myocardium, HMGT emerged as safe and effective. Large randomized multi-center trials are under way to confirm these preliminary results. The future of HMGT is bright and exciting.

Tick-Borne Rickettsial Diseases (TBRD) are emerging zoonotic diseases, and a problem of human health and veterinary medication. The distribution of these diseases is related to the distribution of vector. The presence of pathogens in the host is a risk indicator of population exposure to these areas. A total of 478 tissues samples from rodents, A. phagocytophilum 18 (3.7%), E. canis 47 (9.8%), Rickettsia rickettsii 18 (3.7%) and E. chaffeensis 19 (3.9%) were detected using species-specific PCR assay. It is the first report in Mexico the presence of rodents infected with A. phagocytophilum and E. chaffeensis. The rodent Peromyscus spp. were the most commonly prevalent host of infection for all the bacteria’s. We have to consider as host of TBRD transmitter and provide a useful contribution to understanding their epidemiology. The health sector should be considered all the fevers of unknown causes in humans and animals in Mexico as infections by these vector-borne rickettsial pathogens.

Warthin’s tumour (WT) is the second most common benign salivary gland tumour of the parotid gland. several treatments have been proposed. surgery is considered the treatment of choice. We report a case of an 83-year-old woman who was treated using sclerotherapy and discuss the possible benefits of this method. To our knowledge this is the first report on sclerotherapic treatment of WT.

BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) represents the sixteenth most frequent cancer in Argentina. The rise of new therapeutic modalities in intermediate-advanced HCC opens up a new paradigm for the treatment of *** To describe real-life treatments performed in patients with intermediateadvanced HCC before the approval of new systemic *** This longitudinal observational cohort study was conducted between 2009 and2016 in 14 different regional hospitals from Argentina. Included subjects had intermediate-advanced Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC) HCC stages(BCLC B to D). Primary end point analyzed was survival, which was assessed for each BCLC stage from the date of treatment until last patient follow-up or *** Meier survival curves and Cox regression analysis were performed, with hazard ratios(HR) calculations and 95% confidence intervals(95%CI).REsULTs From 327 HCC patients, 41% were BCLC stage B, 20% stage C and 39% stage *** median survival were 15 mo(IQR 5-26 mo), 5 mo(IQR 2-13 mo)and 3 mo(IQR 1-13 mo)(P spectively. Among BCLC-B patients(n =135), 57% received TACE with a median number of 2 sessions(IQR 1-3 sessions).survival was significantly better in BCLC-B patients treated with TACE HR =0.29(CI: 0.21-0.40) than those without TACE. After tumor reassessment by RECIsT 1.1 criteria following the first TACE, patients with complete response achieved longer survival (HR = 0.15(CI: 0.04-0.56, P = 0.005))Eighty-two patients were treated with sorafenib, mostly BCLC-B and C(87.8%). However,12.2% were BCLC-D. Median survival with sorafenib was 4.5 mo(IQR 2.3-11.7 mo);which was lower among BCLC-D patients 3.2 mo(IQR 2.0-14.1 mo). A total of 36 BCLC-B patients presented tumor progression after TACE. Background Giant axonal neuropathy (GAN) is a rare neurodegenerative disease transmitted in an autosomal recessive mode. This disorder presents motor and sensitive symptoms with an onset in early childhood. Progressive neurodegeneration makes the patients wheelchair dependent by the end of the second decade of life. Affected individuals do not survive beyond the third decade of life. Molecular analysis has identified mutations in the gene GAN in patients with this disorder. This gene produces a protein called gigaxonin which is presumably involved in protein degradation via the ubiquitin-proteasome system. However, the underlying molecular mechanism is not clearly understood yet. Methods Here we present the fi rst patient from Mexico with clinical data suggesting GAN. sequencing of the GAN gene was carried out. Changes in the nucleotide sequence were investigated for their possible impact on protein function and structure using the publicly available prediction tools PolyPhen-2 and PANTHER. Results The patient is a compound heterozygous carrying two novel mutations in the GAN gene. The sequence analy-sis revealed two missense mutations in the Kelch repeats domain. In one allele, a C>T transition was found in exon 9 at the nucleotide position 55393 (g.55393C>T). In the other allele, a transversion G>T in exon 11 at the nucleotide position 67471 (g.67471G>T) was observed. Both of the bioinformatic tools predicted that these amino acid substitutions would have a negative impact on gigaxonin's function. Conclusion This work provides useful information for health professionals and expands the spectrum of disease-causing mutations in the GAN gene and it is the first documented case in Mexican population.

AIM： To determine prevalence of H pylori infection in symptomatic children in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and to investigate factors associated with HpyloH positivity. METHODs： A total of 395 children with upper gastrointestinal symptoms referred to the Gastroenterology Unit of the Children Hospital ＂sor Maria Ludovica＂ were evaluated for the presence of H py/or/by the ^13C-Urea Breath Test （^13C-UBT）. A questionnaire was applied to the recruited population. REsULTs： Prevalence of H pylo H infection was 40.0% in this population （mean age 9.97 ± 3.1 years）. The factors associated with H py/or/positivity were number of siblings （P 〈 0.001）, presence of pet cats （P = 0.03） and birds （P = 0.04） in the household, and antecedents of gastritis among family members （P = 0.01）. After multivariate analysis, number of siblings [Odds ratio （OR） = 1.39; 95% CI, 1.20-1.61] and contact with pet cats （OR = 1.76; 95% CI, 1.00-3.09） remained as variables associated with H pylori infection. CONCLUsION： The prevalence of H pylori infection in children with upper gastrointestinal symptoms in Argentina was similar to that reported in developed countries. Children from families with a higher crowding index and presence of pet cats have a higher risk of being colonized with Hpylori.

strong>Background:strong> Nursing is considered a science in the making that recognizes the nursing process (NP) as the scientific and methodological tool to provide care. The NP is composed of five stages of which the assessment is the first and fundamental to identify the health problems of the people. This research aimed to evaluate a pedagogical didactic strategy that is based on situated constructivism, the Based-Problem Learning (BPL), in order to improve significant learning. strong>Methods:strong> Quantitative research with an explanatory scope, was transversal, and it was applied to 30 students of the first year of the nursing career at the Faculty of Higher studies Iztacala, National Autonomous University of Mexico. The sample was chosen considering the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a Likert-type instrument validated in a previous investigation. strong>Results: strong>The average value obtained from the Likert scale to evaluate the intervention was 103.4, the highest score was 135 and the lowest was 83, which reflects that it was evaluated as good and particularly good. The grade given to the teacher as an agent of the ZPD, was between agree and totally agree, the highest percentages scored at 93%, since it provoked challenge in their thinking, and favored interaction among classmates. strong>Conclusions:strong> The application of the in situ teaching strategy, BPL favored significant learning of the assessment stage, the students were able to carry out the assessment in the hospital, the experience contributed to generate significant learning when students face real scenarios, which showed the effectiveness of the method.

Antimicrobial potential of quinoa seeds from six diverse seeds, grown in three distinctive geo-graphical zones of Chile, was correlated with their total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC) and total saponin content (TsC). The six seeds were Ancovinto, Cancosa, Cahuil, Faro, Regalona and Villarrica. A significant influence of quinoa source on chemical composition of seeds was observed. Extracts of all quinoa samples showed antimicrobial activity in the range of 8.3 - 14.8 mm inhibition zone for E. coli and 8.5 - 15.0 mm inhibition zone for s. aureus. Cancosa seeds had the highest antimicrobial action. The TPC and TFC ranged from 3.71 to 16.55 mg GA/100 g d.m. and 7.77 to 14.37 mg QE/100 g d.m., respectively. TsC varied from 1.78 to 3.08 g/100 g d.m. A cor-relation between TFC and antimicrobial activity was found. In conclusion, the six types of quinoa seeds were identified as potential sources of antioxidant compounds and antimicrobial activity.
