Migrant workers, particularly gold mining workers, have been identified as a group at risk for HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STI). A cross-sectional study was undertaken on the correlates of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and syphilis infections in a sample of migrants (Ghanaian citizens [156] and non-Ghanaian citizens [8]) working in a gold mining centres in Konongo, Ghana. The study was conducted between the months of January 2013 to December 2013. Of a total of 600 eligible migrant workers, only 164 (27.33%;males 114, females 50) of the eligible migrants took part in the study. Subjects voluntarily completed a risk-factor questionnaire and provided blood specimen for testing for the presence of antibodies to HIV and Treponema pallidum, the causative agent of syphilis. These data were analyzed using both univariate and multivariate techniques. The median age of the participants was 29.0 years (range 18 - 62 years). Of the 164 migrant workers tested, HIV and syphilis seroprevalence were 6.7% and 3.7% respectively. On multivariate analysis, the independent determinants for HIV infection were being female [odds ratio (OR) 2.94;95% confidence interval (95% CI 0.86 - 10.0);unmarried (OR 10.13;95% CI 1.2 - 81.09);drug use (OR 3.76;95% CI 0.38 - 36.3);and blood transfusion (OR 2.45;95% CI 0.27 - 22.37). Similarly, on multivariate analysis, the independent determinants for syphilis infection were having concurrent sexual partners (OR 2.16;95% CI 0.38 - 12.12);and blood transfusion (OR 5.07;95% CI 0.51 - 50.37). Consistent with similar studies worldwide, our results suggest high prevalence of HIV and syphilis infections among migrant workers who work in gold mining centres in Ghana.

Endolymphatic sac tumors(ELSTs) are rare, papillary adenomatous tumors that arise from the endothelium of the endolymphatic sac. We demonstrate a difficult case of endolymphatic sac tumor and how it is managed via transcanal endoscopic assisted technique, with discussion of feasibility of transcanal approach to lateral skull base tumor.

Trachypithecus,which currently contains 20 species divided into four groups,is the most speciose and geographically dispersed genus among Asian *** several morphological and molecular studies,however,its evolutionary history and phylogeography remain poorly ***’s langur(Trachypithecus phayrei) is one of the most widespread members of the genus,but details on its actual distribution and intraspecific taxonomy are limited and ***,to elucidate the evolutionary history of Trachypithecus and to clarify the intraspecific taxonomy and distribution of ***,we sequenced 41 mitochondrial genomes from georeferenced fecal samples and museum specimens,including two *** analyses revealed a robustly supported phylogeny of Trachypithecus,suggesting that the *** group branched first,followed by the *** group,and the *** and *** groups most *** four species groups diverged from each other 4.5-3.1 million years ago(Ma),while speciation events within these groups occurred much more recently(1.6-0.3 Ma).Within ***,we found three clades that diverged 1.0-0.9 Ma,indicating the existence of three rather than two *** the phylogenetic species concept and based on genetic,morphological,and ecological differences,we elevate the *** subspecies to species level,describe a new species from central Myanmar,and refine the distribution of the three ***,our study highlights the importance of museum specimens and provides new insights not only into the evolutionary history of *** but the entire Trachypithecus genus as well.

Alternative splicing(AS)is an important approach for pathogens and hosts to remodel ***,tuberculosis(TB)-related AS has not been sufficiently *** we presented the first landscape of TB-related AS by long-read sequencing,and screened four AS events(S100A8-intron1-retention intron,RPS20-exon1-alternaitve promoter,KIF13B-exon4-skipping exon(SE)and UBE2B-exon7-SE)as potential biomarkers in an in-house *** validations in an in-house cohort-2(2274 samples)and public datasets(1557 samples)indicated that the latter three AS events are potential promising biomarkers for TB diagnosis,but not for TB progression and *** excellent performance of classifiers further underscored the diagnostic value of these three *** analyses indicated that UBE2B-exon7-SE splicing was not affected by confounding factors and thus had relatively stable *** splicing of UBE2B-exon7-SE can be changed by heat-killed mycobacterium tuberculosis through inhibiting SRSF1 *** heat-killed mycobacterium tuberculosis stimulation,231 ubiquitination proteins in macrophages were differentially expressed,and most of them are apoptosis-related *** together,we depicted a global TB-associated splicing profile,developed TB-related AS biomarkers,demonstrated an optimal application scope of target biomarkers and preliminarily elucidated mycobacterium tuberculosis-host interaction from the perspective of splicing,offering a novel insight into the pathophysiology of TB.

《飘》作为美国“南方文艺复兴”的代表,塑造了一批具有骑士精神的南方绅士。南北战争的爆发让南方绅士的男性气概发生了嬗变。作品塑造了没落的“绅士”艾希礼,其男性气概从有到无;崛起的“恶棍”瑞德,其男性气概从无到有。艾希礼和瑞德二人男性气概的嬗变,映射了媚兰和思嘉的女性意识和女性地位的发展变化,客观上为美国南方女性主义的兴起提供了历史契机。通过描写南方绅士男性气概的嬗变,玛格丽特·米切尔对美国南方女性的独立意识进行了积极探讨。通过描写社会对理想男性气概的憧憬与期待,作品为构建和谐融洽的社会远景提供了启示。
