eIF3 subunit M regulates blood meal digestion in Rhodnius prolixus affecting ecdysis, reproduction, and survival

In triatomines,blood-feeding triggers many physiological processes including post embryonic development and *** feeding habits,such as hematophagy,can shape gene functions to meet the challenges of each type of *** gut of blood-sucking insects faces particular challenges after feeding due to the quantity and the quality of the food ingested.A comparison of transcriptomic and proteomic data indicates that post transcriptional regulation of gene expression is crucial in the triatomine *** was proposed that eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit m(eIF3m)and eIF3e define 2 different eIF3 complexes with a distinct affinity for the different mRNAs,thus selecting the set of mRNAs to be translated and constituting a post transcriptional mode of regulation of gene *** the eIF3m is mainly expressed in the gut,we evaluated its relevance in Rhodnius prolixus physiology through RNA interference-mediated gene *** knockdown of eIF3m reduced the digestion rate,affecting the processes triggered by a blood *** silencing inhibited molting and caused premature death in nymphs while impaired ovary development,oviposition and increased resistance to starvation in adult *** survival of males after feeding(resistance to starvation)was not affected by eIF3m *** information regarding the eIF3m function in insects is scarce and the phenotypes observed in *** upon eIF3m silencing are different and more severe than those previously described in Drosophila melanogaster,indicating a pleiotropic role of this gene in triatomines.

Sugarcane mosaic virus(SCMV)is the main etiological agent of sugarcane mosaic disease,which affects sugarcane and other grass *** the extensive characterization of quantitative trait loci controlling resistance to SCMV in maize,the genetic basis of this trait in sugarcane is largely ***,a genome-wide association study was performed and machine learning coupled with feature selection was used for genomic prediction of resistance to SCMV in a diverse sugarcane *** single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)explained up to 29.9%of the observed phenotypic variance and a 73-SNP set predicted resistance with high accuracy,precision,recall,and F1 scores(the harmonic mean of precision and recall).Both marker sets were validated in additional sugarcane genotypes,in which the SNPs explained up to 23.6%of the phenotypic variation and predicted resistance with a maximum accuracy of 69.1%.Synteny analyses suggested that the gene responsible for the majority of SCMV resistance in maize is absent in sugarcane,explaining why this major resistance source has not been identified in this ***,using sugarcane RNA-Seq data,markers associated with resistance to SCMV were annotated,and a gene coexpression network was constructed to identify the predicted biological processes involved in *** network allowed the identification of candidate resistance genes and confirmed the involvement of stress responses,photosynthesis,and the regulation of transcription and translation in resistance to *** results provide a practical marker-assisted breeding approach for sugarcane and identify target genes for future studies of SCMV resistance.

The SeridóBelt,at the extreme northeast of Brazil,is one of the several Neoproterozoic mobile belts related to the Brasiliano/Pan-African Orogeny in Western *** lithostratigraphy of the SeridóBelt comprises basal quartzites and metaconglomerates(equador Formation)overlain by hornblende-bearing paragneisses,calc-silicate rocks and marbles(Jucurutu Formation)and biotiteschists(SeridóFormation).We investigated the sedimentary provenance of these rocks based on an integration of compiled whole-rock geochemistry,Sm-Nd isotopes,U-Pb detrital zircon ages and a new set of whole-rock trace elements *** Formation quartzites have major and trace elements patterns that resemble cratonic sandstones,with a typical felsic provenance consistent with the isotopic composition of plutonic Archean to Paleoproterozoic basement *** proxies suggest that these rocks were deposited in fresh waters under anoxic conditions and moderate to intense weathering conditions(CIA=58–79).A shift in provenance led to an increase in intermediate-mafic sources during the deposition of the Jucurutu and Seridó*** elements from rock types in these units are nearly identical,yet they differ on the contents of some high field-strength elements(e.g.,Sc,V and Ni),which are higher in the SeridóFormation than average *** proxies show similar depositional environments,with brackish to marine conditions for the Jucurutu and Seridóformations under anoxic to euxinic *** conditions are consistently lower in the Jucurutu Formation(CIA=58–66)in comparison with the SeridóFormation(CIA=60–88).Compiled U-Pb data suggest maximum depositional ages of 633±11 Ma and 633±6 Ma for Jucurutu and Seridóformations,respectively,suggesting deposition following the ca.645–635 Ma Marinoan *** compared the geochemistry of the SeridóFormation schists with currently exposed basement rocks and showed a strong affinity with Neoproterozoic arc-related

3D extrusion of multi-biomaterial lattices using an environmentally informed workflow

The conventional building material palette has been proven limited in terms of adaptability to our current environmental challenges. Innovations in computational design and digital manufacturing have supported the broadening of biomaterial applications as an alternative. While biomaterials are characteristically responsive to stimuli such as temperature and humidity, their unpredictable behaviour is a hurdle to standardization and architectural utilisation. To examine the nexus between material formulation, computation and manufacturing, multi-biomaterial lattice structures were produced through an environmentally informed workflow. Customized biomaterial development resulted in three candidate biopolymer blends with varying levels of hydro-responsiveness and transparency. The computational strategy included a machine learning clustering algorithm to customise results and dictate material distribution outputs. To test the workflow, environmental data of solar radiation exposure and solar heat gain from a specific location was used to inform the material deposition via pneumatic extrusion for the design and digital fabrication of a deformation-controlled prototype of 350 mm × 350 mm. This led to a series of multi-biomaterial wall panel components that can be applied at architectural scale. In future, these techniques can support the incorporation of living elements to be embedded within the built environment for truly animate architecture.

Litter production and decomposition are critical to forest productivity,nutrient cycling,and carbon seques-tration in tropical woody ***,nutrient release and leaf litter stoichiometry in tropical legume tree plantations over the long term after outplanting are poorly understood or even *** improving our under-standing of the pattern of changes in the decomposition of N-fixing leaf litters and their possible impact on carbon stor-age,we measured litter production,mass loss and nutrient release for 240 d during litter decomposition for two tropical legume tree species(Plathymenia reticulata and Hymenaea courbaril),in Rio de Janeiro,*** production for *** was 5.689 kg ha^(−1) a^(−1) and 3.231 kg ha^(−1) a^(−1) for *** patterns of mass loss rates were similar;however,nutrient release was greater for ***,while *** showed immobilization of nutrients,especially for N,which increased by almost 20%in the early phase of decomposition followed by gradual *** from the N-fixing species did differ in nutrient chemistries over time,which was not surprising given that initial nutrient concentrations varied broadly,except for C and *** of the nutrient concentrations increased as the remaining litter mass decreased in both species,except for C and *** C:N and N:P ratios differed between the species,but N:P did not correlate to mass *** species had N-rich leaves,but *** decomposition was very likely P-limited,while *** seemed to be co-limited by N and *** results showed different patterns in nutrient release and the stoichi-ometry involved in the decomposition dynamics of the two tropical N-fixing species,even though they have similar litter decay *** species,but especially ***,may help re-establish nutrient cycling in disturbed ecosystems.

Study of tumor necrosis factor receptor in the inflammatory bowel disease
