Long COVID and gut candidiasis:What is the existing relationship?

Since the beginning of the coronavirus disease(COVID)2019 pandemic,thou-sands of articles on the topic have been published,and although there is a growing trend of research on another associated condition,long coronavirus disease,important points still remain to be clarified in this *** evidence has suggested a relevant link between new clinical discoveries and molecular mechanisms that could be associated with the manifestations of different signs and symptoms involving cases of long ***,one of the existing gaps that requires further investigation concerns a possible rela-tionship between gut candidiasis and long *** recent studies also suggest an interplay between the occurrence of these two conditions,it is not yet fully clear how this may happen,as well as the specifics regarding the possible pathophysiological mechanisms *** this connection and with the advent of a potential strengthening of the body of evidence supporting the hypothesis of a link between gut candidiasis and long COVID,a better understanding of the clinical presentation,pathophysiology and clinical management of such a relationship should be essential and useful for both,additional advances towards more targeted research and appropriate case *** more about the signs,symptoms,and complications associated with cases of long COVID is essential in order to more effectively mitigate the related burden and provide a higher quality of care and life for the affected *** light of this and the need for better outcomes,here we review and discuss the content on different aspects of long COVID,including its pathophysiology and the existing evidence of a potential relationship between such a condition and gut candidiasis,as well as suggest propositions for future related *** Long coronavirus disease(COVID)is a condition characterized by the emergence of new symptoms or the persistence of existing symptoms for at least two months,

Pedicularis longiflora ***(Orobanchaceae)is an abundant parasitic herb mainly found in the Xiaopohu wetland of the Qinghai Lake Basin in Northwestern *** species has an important local medicinal value,and in this study,we evaluated the chemical profile of its stems,leaves and seeds using mass *** samples of stems,leaves and seeds were grinded,weighted,and used for a series of extractions with an ultrasonic device at room *** chemical profiles for each tissue were determined using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry(GC-MS)and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry(LC-MS).Twenty-seven amino acids and organic acids were identified and quantified from stems,leaves and *** content of amino acids detected in leaves and seeds was higher than the amount found in *** fla-vonoids were also detected,including isoorientin,orientin,luteolin-7-O-glucoside,luteolin,apigenin and *** concentrations of luteolin-7-O-glucoside,luteolin and tricin were the highest and more concentrated in leaves,while that of orientin was the lowest and mainly found in *** monosaccharides and oligosaccharides below tetramer were also examined,and our analyses detected the presence of arabitol,fructose,galacturonic acid,glucose,glucuronic acid,inositol,sucrose,and *** is the first study to identify and quantify the main components of amino acids,organic acids,flavonoids and soluble sugars from stems,leaves and seeds of *** *** of the amino acids detected are essential for humans,highlighting the medicinal importance of this *** shown here can be used as a reference case to develop future studies on the chemical constituents of Pedicularis herbs and other medicinal plants from the Tibetan region.

recurrent missense mutation of GDF5 (p.r438L) causes proximal symphalangism in a British family

Proximal symphalangism(SYM1B)(OMIM 615298) is an autosomal dominant developmental disorder affecting joint fusion. It is characterized by variable fusions of the proximal interphalangeal joints of the hands,typically of the ring and little finger,with the thumb typically being spared. SYM1 is frequently associated with coalition of tarsal bones and conductive hearing loss. Molecular studies have identified two possible genetic aetiologies for this syndrome,NOG and GDF5. We herein present a British caucasian family with SYM1 B caused by a mutation of the GDF5 gene. A mother and her three children presented to the orthopaedic outpatient department predominantly for feet related problems. All patients had multiple tarsal coalitions and hand involvement in the form of either brachydactyly or symphalangism of the proximal and middle phalanx of the little fingers. Genetic testing in the eldest child and his mother identified a heterozygous missense mutation in GDF5 c.1313G>T(p.r438L),thereby establishing SYM1 B as the cause of the orthopaedic problems in this family. There were no mutations identified in the NOG gene. This report highlights the importance of thorough history taking,including a three generation family history,and detailed clinical examination of children with fixed planovalgus feet and other family members to detect rare skeletal dysplasia conditions causing pain and deformity,and provides details of the spectrum of problems associated with SYM1 B.

In October 1999, rainfall induced landslides devastated different communities of the Sierra Norte, Puebla, causing more than 250 victims and economic losses greater than $ 450 million. The town of Zacapoaxtla was one of the sectors most affected by slope instability due to the existing geological features and geomorphic characters determined by material properties, landforms and processes. Extensive areas formed by pyroclastic piedmonts developed on the Quaternary volcanic ignimbrite deposits highly dissected by marginal gully erosion combined with an extreme rainfall event played a significant role as an ideal scenario for the occurrence of landsliding. Distribution of landslides triggered by rainfall within the main sector of the Zacapoaxtla municipality was analyzed by using IKONos images in terms of exploring the likely relationship between mass movement incidence and levels of vegetation density. The later was undertaken by means of producing an NDVI and applying a fragmentation algorithm. Finally, a map of potential areas of mass movements risk was produced based on the combination of a socio-economic vulnerability index, geologic and geomorphological maps and the spatial landslide distribution.

Effects of a blend of Saccharomyces cerevisiae-based direct-fed microbial and fermentation products on plasma carbonylmetabolome and fecal bacterial community of beef steers

Sugarcane mosaic virus(SCMV)is the main etiological agent of sugarcane mosaic disease,which affects sugarcane and other grass *** the extensive characterization of quantitative trait loci controlling resistance to SCMV in maize,the genetic basis of this trait in sugarcane is largely ***,a genome-wide association study was performed and machine learning coupled with feature selection was used for genomic prediction of resistance to SCMV in a diverse sugarcane *** single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)explained up to 29.9%of the observed phenotypic variance and a 73-SNP set predicted resistance with high accuracy,precision,recall,and F1 scores(the harmonic mean of precision and recall).Both marker sets were validated in additional sugarcane genotypes,in which the SNPs explained up to 23.6%of the phenotypic variation and predicted resistance with a maximum accuracy of 69.1%.Synteny analyses suggested that the gene responsible for the majority of SCMV resistance in maize is absent in sugarcane,explaining why this major resistance source has not been identified in this ***,using sugarcane rNA-Seq data,markers associated with resistance to SCMV were annotated,and a gene coexpression network was constructed to identify the predicted biological processes involved in *** network allowed the identification of candidate resistance genes and confirmed the involvement of stress responses,photosynthesis,and the regulation of transcription and translation in resistance to *** results provide a practical marker-assisted breeding approach for sugarcane and identify target genes for future studies of SCMV resistance.

Dogs have been under strong artificial selection as a consequence of their relationship with man. Differences between breeds are evident that could be reflected in seminal characteristics. The present study was to evaluate differences in sperm head morphometry between seven well-defined breeds of dog： the British Bulldog, Chihuahua, German Shepherd, Labrador retriever, Spanish Mastiff, Staffordshire Terrier, and Valencian rat Hunting dog. Semen samples were obtained by masturbation and smears stained with Diff-Quik. Morphometric analysis （CASA-Morph） produced four size and four shape parameters. Length, Ellipticity, and Elongation showed higher differences between breeds. MANOVA revealed differences among all breeds. Considering the whole dataset, principal component analysis （PCA） showed that PC1 was related to head shape and PC2 to size. Procluster analysis showed the British Bulldog to be the most isolated breed, followed by the German Shepherd. The PCA breed by breed showed the Chihuahua, Labrador retriever, Spanish Mastiff, and Staffordshire Terrier to have PC1 related to shape and PC2 to size, whereas the British Bulldog, Valencia rat Hunting dog, and German Shepherd had PC1 related to size and PC2 to shape. The dendrogram for cluster groupings and the distance between them showed the British Bulldog to be separated from the rest of the breeds. Future work on dog semen must take into account the large differences in the breeds＇ sperm characteristics. The results provide a base for future work on phylogenetic and evolutionary studies of dogs, based on their seminal characteristics.

Purpose:This study was aimed to analyze the mediation role of cardiorespiratory fitness(CrF)on the association between fatness and cardiometabolic risk scores(CMrs)in European ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted in adolescents(n=525;46%boys;14.1±1.1 years old,mean ±SD)from 10 European cities involved in the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence *** was measured by means of the shuttle run test,while fatness measures included body mass index(BMI),waist to height ratio,and fat mass index estimated from skinfold thicknesses.A clustered CMrs was computed by summing the standardized values of homeostasis model assessment,systolic blood pressure,triglycerides,total cholesterol/highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol ratio,and ***:Linear regression models indicated that CrF acted as an important and partial mediator in the association between fatness and CMrs in 1217-year-old adolescents(for BMI:coefficients of the indirect role b=0.058(95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.023-0.101),Sobel test z=3.11(10.0%mediation);for waist to height ratio:b=4.279(95%CI:2.242-7.059),z=3.86(11.5%mediation);and for fat mass index:b=0.060(95%CI:0.020-0.106),z=2.85(9.4%mediation);all prs could be partially decreased with improvements to fitness levels;therefore,CrF contribution both in the clinical field and public health could be important to consider and promote in adolescents independently of their fatness levels.
