Hydrocyclones have versatile applications in various industrial processes.They functionn on the principle of centrifugal separation to remove a dispersed phase(particles or drops)from a continuous phase(fluid).In unconventional filtering hydrocyclones,the separation efficiency and energy costs have been improved by combining filtration with centrifugal separation.This work investigated experimentally the effect of incorporating a cylinder and a porous cone in a conventional hydrocyclone.It also evaluated the effects of the main geometric dimensions of the separator on the hydrocyclone performance.A differential-evolution algorithm was applied to optimize the hydrocyclone performance,which was represented as the maximum total efficiency and minimum Euler number.The experimental results validated the optimization results and showed that hydrocyclones with optimized geometries exhibited higher total efficiencies(89.59%)and lower Euler numbers(582)than hydrocyclones with other experimental configurations.

Nine novel microsatellite markers are presented for Aphelinus mali, a parasitoid of the woolly apple aphid Eriosoma lanigerum. Loci were characterized for 28 individuals from a single orchard in central Chile. Seven loci were polymorphic within A. mali （3-6 alleles per locus; observed heterozygosity ranging from 0.04 to 0.57） and are therefore useful for population genetic studies within this species.

Imprinting in plants

Genomic imprinting leads to the differential expression of parental alleles after fertilization. Imprinting appears to have evolved independently in mammals and flowering plants to regulate the development of nutrient-transfer placental tissues. In addition, the regulation of imprinting in both mammals and flowering plants involves changes in DNA methylation and histone methylation, thus suggesting that the epigenetic signals that regulate imprinting have been co-opted in these distantly related species.

This review shows the importance of WO_(3)photoanode as a potentially low-cost,efficient,stable,and photoactive material for light-driven water splitting.For such,this manuscript aims to review the most recent publications regarding the strategies to improve the phoelectroactivity of WO_(3)films for water oxidation.In addition,this review aims to graphically highlight and discuss the general trendings of the photocurrent density response and stability test of the recent outstanding studies in the literature for photoelectrochemical water splitting application.The strategies covered in this review will not only concern the WO_(3)morphology and crystal plane growth,but also the many arrangements possibilities to improve the WO_(3)efficiency for water photoelectrooxidation,such as defect engineering based on oxygen vacancies,doping,decorations,and homo and heterojunctions.All these strategies are compared by the photocurrent density results and by the stability of these photocatalysts.The best results in this sense were observed in cases where the use of heterojunction was applied together with a desired morphology and crystal plane of the WO_(3)photoanode.However,the modifications that caused a decrease in the photocurrent density reaching values that are even lower than the pure WO_(3)were also discussed.In this way,this review intends to improve the knowledge about the synthesis and design of WO_(3)photoanodes to further obtain an efficient photocatalyst to minimize the recombination losses or losses across the interfaces and improve the photoelectroactivity for water splitting in the large-scale application.

In areas highly affected by anthropogenic disturbances,artificial(human-made)freshwater ecosystems can provide habitat for maintaining and conserving regional freshwater biodiversity.We assessed how the physical habitat of artificial ponds affected the structure of benthic macroinvertebrate assemblages.To do so,we tested two hypotheses.(1)Physical habitat disturbances are not detrimental to the diversity of nearby artificial ponds,and(2)Physical habitat disturbances do not cause significant shifts in taxonomic composition.Our results rejected both null hypotheses,i.e.,macroinvertebrate diversity metrics correlated significantly and positively with Physical Habitat Integrity index scores,and only sites with high habitat condition scores were significantly associated with sensitive indicator taxa.Our results highlight the importance of maintaining physical habitat conditions for sustaining the ecological health of artificial ponds.

A complete characterization of the behavior in human-robot interactions(HRI) includes both: the behavioral dynamics and the control laws that characterize how the behavior is regulated with the perception data. In this way, this work proposes a leader-follower coordinate control based on an impedance control that allows to establish a dynamic relation between social forces and motion error. For this, a scheme is presented to identify the impedance based on fictitious social forces, which are described by distance-based potential fields.As part of the validation procedure, we present an experimental comparison to select the better of two different fictitious force structures. The criteria are determined by two qualities: least impedance errors during the validation procedure and least parameter variance during the recursive estimation procedure.Finally, with the best fictitious force and its identified impedance,an impedance control is designed for a mobile robot Pioneer 3AT,which is programmed to follow a human in a structured scenario.According to results, and under the hypothesis that moving like humans will be acceptable by humans, it is believed that the proposed control improves the social acceptance of the robot for this kind of interaction.

The sand fly Lutzomyia longipalpis is the main vector of Leishmania infantum in the Americas.Female sand flies ingest sugar-rich solutions and blood,which are digested in the midgut.Digestion of nutrients is an essential function performed by digestive enzymes,which require appropriate physiological conditions.One of the main aspects that influence enzymatic activity is the gut pH,which must be tightly controlled.Considering second messengers are frequently involved in the coordination of tightly regulated physiological events,we investigated if the second messenger cAMP would participate in the process of alkalinization in the abdominal midgut of female L.longipalpis.In midguts containing the indicator dye bromothymol-blue,cAMP stimulated the alkalinization of the midgut lumen.Through another technique based on the use of fluorescein as a pH indicator,we propose that cAMP is involved in the alkalinization of the midgut by activating HCO3-transport from the enterocyte's cytoplasm to the lumen.The results strongly suggested that the carrier responsible for this process would be a HCO3−/Cl−antiporter located in the enterocytes’apical membrane.Hematophagy promotes the release of alkalinizing hormones in the hemolymph;however,when the enzyme adenylyl cyclase,responsible for cAMP production,was inhibited,we observed that the hemolymph from blood-fed L.longipalpis’females did not stimulate midgut alkalinization.This result indicated that hormone-stimulated alkalinization is mediated by cAMP.In the present study,we provide evidences that cAMP has a key role in the control of intestinal pH.

Extensive right coronary artery thrombosis in a patient with COVID-19:A case report

BACKGROUND Occurring in approximately 30%of hospitalized patients,cardiovascular complications that take place during the course of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)have been shown to cause morbidity and mortality.This case is the first report of extensive right coronary artery(RCA)thrombosis that was evaluated by intracoronary imaging and intracoronary invasive physiology in a patient with COVID-19.CASE SUMMARY A 62-year-old woman presented with flu-like symptoms;ten days later,she presented with inferior ST-segment elevations,chest pain,dyspnea,nausea and vomiting.The patient was diagnosed with COVID-19 following a positive test result.Emergency angiography of the RCA and its branches indicated intraluminal filling defects,suggesting a thrombus.Intravascular ultrasound confirmed a subacute thrombus in the RCA,the right posterior descending branch and the right posterior ventricular(RPV)branch.There was also an acute thrombus in the RPV branch and atherosclerosis in the RCA.Dual antiplatelet/anticoagulation therapy was administered.After 7 d,angiography revealed complete disappearance of the thrombi.Optical coherence tomography confirmed this with the exception of a small thrombus in the RPV branch and atherosclerotic plaque in the RCA.The atherosclerotic RCA was measured using the resting fullcycle ratio,indicating no impairment to coronary physiology.The patient was discharged on the 11^(th) day of hospitalization and remained asymptomatic through the 6-mo follow-up.CONCLUSION This was the first report of RCA thrombosis in a patient with COVID-19.Dual antiplatelet/anticoagulation therapy was successful.

The relationships between climate conditions and wood density in tropical forests are still poorly understood.To quantify spatial dependence of wood density in the state of Minas Gerais(MG,Brazil),map spatial distribution of density,and correlate density with climate variables,we extracted data from the Forest Inventory of Minas Gerais for 1988 trees scaled throughout the territory and measured wood density of discs removed from the trees.Environmental variables were extracted from the database of the Ecological-Economic Zoning of Minas Gerais.For spatial analysis,tree densities were measured at 44 georeferenced sampling points.The data were subjected to exploratory analysis,variography,cross-validation,model selection,and ordinary kriging.The relationships between wood density and environmental variables were calculated using dispersion matrices,linear correlation,and regression.Wood density proved to be highly spatially dependent,reaching a correlation of 96%,and was highly continuous over a distance of 228 km.The distribution of wood density followed a continuous gradient of 514-659 kg m^(−3),enabling corre-lation with environment variables.Density was correlated with mean annual precipitation(−0.57),temperature(0.63),and evapotranspiration(0.83).Geostatistical methods proved useful in predicting wood density in native tropical forests with different climate conditions.Our results confirmed the sensitivity of wood density to climate change,which could affect future carbon stock in forests.
