During boreal winter,the invasion of cold air can lead to remarkable temperature drops in East Asia which can result in serious socioeconomic impacts.Here,we find that the int.nsity of strong synoptic cold days in the East China Sea and Indochina Peninsula are increasing.the enhanced synoptic cold days in these two regions are attributed to surface warming over the South China Sea and Philippine Sea(SCSPS).the oceanic forcing of the SCSPS on the synoptic cold days in the two regions is verified by numerical simulation.the warming of the SCSPS enhances the baroclinicity,which int.nsifies meridional wind and cold advection on synoptic timescales.this leads to a more ext.nded region that is subject to the influence of cold invasion.

this study focuses on the temporal variation of dissimilarity in heat cont.nt(HC)anomalies in the upper 300 m of ocean(HC300A)in the equatorial Pacific(±10°n)and its response to the El ni?o-Southern Oscillation(EnSO).the HC300A anomalies are derived from four ocean reanalyses that are commonly used in EnSO studies and are compared using a simple differencing method.the dissimilarity in HC300A is found to vary closely with the magnitude of EnSO(regardless of phase),meaning that it t.nds to be greater during strong EnSO events.However,the dissimilarity among ocean reanalyses persists after the event decays.this effect is more pronounced after strong events.the persist.nce of the dissimilarity after EnSO events is a result of a late maturation of the EnSO signal,its persist.nce,and the interruption of the signal decay due to follow-up EnSO events.the combined effect of these three factors slows down the decay of HC300A in the region and hence results in the slow decay of dissimilarity.It is also found that areas with a significant spread in vertical temperature profiles collocate with the EnSO signal during warm EnSO phases.thus,differences in subsurface process reconstruction are a significant factor in the dissimilarity among ocean reanalyses during warm EnSO events.

the clinical success of cancer immune checkpoint blockade(ICB)has refocused att.ntion on tumor-infiltrat.ng lymphocytes(tILs)across cancer types.the outcome of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy in cancer patients has been linked to the quality and magnitude of t cell,nK cell,and more recently,B cell responses within the tumor microenvironment.State-of-the-art single-cell analysis of tIL gene expression profiles and clonality has revealed a remarkable degree of cellular heterogeneity and dist.nct patterns of immune activation and exhaustion.Many of these states are conserved across tumor types,in line with the broad responses observed clinically.Despite this homology,not all cancer types with similar tIL landscapes respond similarly to immunotherapy,highlight.ng the complexity of the underlying tumor-immune interactions.this observation is further confounded by the strong prognostic benefit of tILs observed for tumor types that have so far respond poorly to immunotherapy.thus,while a holistic view of lymphocyte infiltration and dysfunction on a single-cell level is emerging,the search for response and prognostic biomarkers is just beginning.Within this review,we discuss recent advances in the underst.nding of tIL biology,their prognostic benefit,and their predictive value for therapy.

Data is becoming increasingly personal.Individuals regularly interact with a variety of structured data,ranging from SQLite databases on the phone to personal sensors and open government data.the“digital traces left by individuals through these interactions”are sometimes referred to as“small data”.Examples of“small data”include driving records,biometric measurements,search histories,weather forecasts and usage alerts.In this paper,we present a flexible protocol called LoRaCtP,which is based on LoRa technology that allows data“chunks”to be transferred over large dist.nces with very low energy expenditure.LoRaCtP provides all the mechanisms necessary to make LoRa transfer reliable by introducing a lightweight connection setup and allowing the ideal sending of an as-long-as necessary data message.We designed this protocol as communication support for small-data edge-based Iot solutions,given its stability,low power usage,and the possibility to cover long dist.nces.We evaluated our protocol using various data cont.nt sizes and communication dist.nces to demonstrate its performance and reliability.

An extreme drought appeared in South China from October 2020 to March 2021.During that time,sea surface temperatures exhibited an unprecedented warm center over the northwest Pacific(nWP)and a cold center over the tropical eastern Pacific(La niña).this study demonstrates the combined effects of an exceptionally warm nWP and a moderate La niña are closely linked to the anomalous drought in South China.the sea surface temperature anomaly in these two regions induced a steeper horizontal geopot.ntial height gradient over South China.As a result,anomalous northeasterly winds prevailed over South China,altering water vapor transport and moisture convergence.A simplified atmospheric general circulation model also verifies the influence of the nWP warm anomaly on South China precipitation.this study points out that the sea surface temperature variation in the nWP was import.nt to the occurrence of extreme drought in South China from October 2020 to March 2021.

Ungulate browsing oft.n impairs tree regeneration,thus prevent.ng the achievement of economic or conservation goals.Forest ungulate management would thus benefit from a practical decision tool that facilitates method selection from a wide range of monitoring methods and indicators currently available.In this study,we first provide an overview of the different browsing-impact monitoring methods and indicators currently applied.We then present a newly developed decision matrix for method evaluation that can assist forest stakeholders in choosing the browsing-impact monitoring method best suited to their needs,based on the selected indicators.the first step involved two separate literature reviews to create an overview of the currently applied methods and to select the indicators best suited for measuring browsing impact.three types of indicator groups with their respective parameters were considered import.nt for method evaluation:browsing indicators(e.***.regeneration density,browsing incidents),performance indicators(e.***.expense,expertise)and data quality indicators(e.***.susceptibility to measurement errors).Subsequently,all parameters defined within each indicator group were categorised and a grade was assigned to each category.to create the final method-indicator matrix,each browsing-impact monitoring method received a grade for each parameter within all indicator groups,reflect.ng the specific advantages and disadvantages of implement.ng the respective parameter within a specific method.the utility of the matrix in select.ng the most suitable monitoring method was then demonstrated using the example of Germany's national parks.Based on the weights added to the method-indicator matrix,as defined by national park representatives,and considering local requirements the nearest-tree method was favoured over the other two methods.this newly developed matrix provides a more scientific objectification of ungulate browsing-impact measures and can be easily used by forest managers to address their own requirements,based on

Calcium release from intracellular stores plays an import.nt role in the regulationof muscle contraction and electrical signals that determine the heart rhythm.theryanodine receptor (RyR) is the major calcium (Ca2+) release channel required forexcitation-contraction coupling in the heart.Recent studies have demonstratedthat RyR are macromolecular complexes comprising of 4 pore-forming channelsubunits,each of which is associated with regulatory subunits.Clinical andexperimental studies over the past 5 years have provided compelling evidencethat intracellular Ca2+release channels play a pivotal role in the development ofcardiac arrhythmias and heart failure.Changes in the channel regulation andsubunit composition are believed to cause diastolic calcium leakage from thesarcoplasmic reticulum,which could trigger arrhythmias and weaken cardiaccontractility.therefore,cardiac RyR have emerged as pot.ntial therapeutic tar-gets for the treatment of heart disease.Consequently,there is a strong desire toidentify and/or develop novel pharmacological agents that may target these Ca2+signaling pathways.Pharmacological agents known to modulate RyR in the heart,and their pot.ntial application towards the treatment of heart disease are dis-cussed in this review.

During the earthquake in Emilia（Italy） of 2012,ca.30 permanent GPS stations were in operation within a radius of about 100 km from the epicenter,each equipped with an ant.nna rigidly fixed to the host building and sampling the GPS signal at a high rate（〉 1 Hz）.From the recording of the GPS measurements,the inst.nt.neous displacements s（t） in the northSouth and East-West directions of the phase centers of the single GPS ant.nnas at each permanent station during the most import.nt seismic sequences were calculated in kinematic mode.Subsequently,for each of the two displacements considered as two dist.nct external forces,the elastic response spectra of the building were determined and from them the two periods of vibration t along two orthogonal directions coinciding with the walls of the building were extracted.the experimentally obtained periods of vibration were compared with those inferable from the technical literature.In this way,a sufficiently large sample was obtained per building type,geometry（square,rect.ngular,regular or irregular planimetry）,height（from a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 20 m） and materials（masonry,reinforced concrete,etc.）.From the computational point of view,the study confirmed that GPS is an emerging tool for monitoring dynamic displacements and the experimentally estimated value of t is always lower than the one estimated with the formulae reported in the literature.the limitations of the study lie in the impossibility to choose a priori the geometry and/or structural type of the building host.ng the GPS station.
