Corn is one of t.e main grasses used t. produce human or animal food. One of t.e main problems wit. t.e use of corn is t.e presence of mycot.xins, where aflat.xin B1 is one of t.e most.harmful for human and animal healt.. Chemical met.ods such as t.e addit.on of ant.fungals and sequest.ant. are used t. cont.ol t.is cont.minant.in food;however, t.ese met.ods can leave dangerous residues. t.e aim of t.is research was t. evaluat. t.e effect.veness of irradiat.on wit. gamma rays on corn for t.e cont.ol of aflat.xin B1. For t.is purpose, t.ree t.eat.ent. were compared: t.eat.ent.1, applicat.on of gamma radiat.on, t.eat.ent.2, applicat.on of ant.fungal and t.eat.ent.3, combinat.on of gamma radiat.on and applicat.on of ant.fungal. Corn wit.out.exposure t. any cont.ol of aflat.xin was used as a wit.ess group. Irradiat.on doses of 2, 6 and 10 kGy were t.st.d, and t.e dose of 6 kGy was select.d as t.e best.since it.lowered aflat.xin B1 more effect.vely. t.e corn analyzed in t.is st.dy was st.red during 45 days at.23°C, and every 15 days. We det.rmined t.e concent.at.on of aflat.xin B1, presence or absence of pat.ogenic microorganisms and insect., and we evaluat.d t.e physicochemical charact.rist.cs of t.e grain. t.en, t.e t.eat.ent. were compared and t.eat.ent.1, only irradiat.on wit. gamma rays, proved t. be significant.y more effect.ve in t.e reduct.on of aflat.xin B1 and t.e t.t.l inhibit.on of t.e survival of t.e insect. during t.e 45 days of st.rage which allowed bet.er preservat.on of t.e prot.in. All t.eat.ent. cont.olled t.e growing of pat.ogenic microorganisms as Salmonella and Ent.robact.riacea, and kept.t.e humidit. of t.e grain in values lower t.an 13%. t.e cost.product.on of a bag of 40 kg of feed was also est.mat.d in USD 22.56;which is1.80% great.r t.an t.e cost.corresponding t. t.e convent.onal process t.at.uses mycot.xin sequest.ant..

Wit. t.e aim of evaluat.ng how changes in t.e met.bolic st.t.s in t.e last.mont. of pregnancy affect. reproduct.ve efficiency, fort. six Bos indicus mult.parous cows (5.5 ± 2.4 part.rit.ons), were used. Measurement. of body weight.(BW), body condit.on score (BCS) and dorsal back fat.(BF) were t.ken in t.e last.mont. of pregnancy, post.art.m period previous t. synchronizat.on (average 50 d) and at.breeding by nat.ral mat.ng following synchronizat.on wit. a progest.n (average 70 d). Average post.art.m days t. resumpt.on t. ovarian act.vit. were 79.96 ± 16.5 d, and average post.art.m days t. concept.on was 88.5 ± 14 d. Days post.art.m t. resumpt.on of t.e ovarian act.vit. was posit.vely correlat.d (0.51, P 0.01) wit. days post.art.m t. concept.on, also, days post.art.m t. concept.on was posit.vely correlat.d wit. prepart.m back fat.(14 d before part.rit.on) (0.44, P 0.05). It.was observed t.at.BF at.calving which is an object.ve measurement.had a low correlat.on wit. ot.er product.ve variables such as BCS and BW (always less t.an 0.39). Body fat.might.be a more reliable indicat.r of t.e current.met.bolic st.t.s of t.e animal part.cularly in t.e last.mont. of pregnancy when t.e indicat.rs of BCS are somehow more difficult.t. int.rpret.and subject.ve.
