Background: The study aimed to determine the apparent total tract digestibility coefficients(ATTDC) of nutrients, the apparent metabolizable energy(AME and AMEn) and the amino acid(AA) apparent ileal digestibility coefficients(AIDC)of a partially defatted(BSFp) and a highly defatted(BSFh) black soldier fly larvae meal. The experimental diets were: a basal diet and two diets prepared by substituting 250 g/kg(w/w) of the basal diet with BSFp or BSFh, ***: Significant differences were found between BSFp and BSFh meals for ATTDC of the nutrients: BSFp resulted more digestible than BSFh, except for ATTDC of CP which did not differed between meals, while a statistical trend was observed for ATTDC of DM and EE. The AME and AMEn values were significantly(P nt between the two BSF meals, with higher levels for BSFp(16.25 and 14.87 MJ/kg DM, respectively). The AIDC of the AA in BSFp ranged from 0.44 to 0.92, while in BSFh they ranged from 0.45 to 0.99. no significant differences were observed for the AA digestibility(0.77 and 0.80 for BSFp and BSFh, respectively), except for glutamic acid, proline and serine that were more digestible in the BSFh meal(P nclusions: Defatted BSF meals can be considered as an excellent source of AME and digestible AA for broilers with a better efficient nutrient digestion. These considerations suggested the effective utilization of defatted BSF larvae meal in poultry feed formulation.

The structures of methoxymethyl (E)-3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)acrylate, 2;(E)-3-(3-methoxy-4-(methoxymethoxy)phenyl)acrylic acid, 3;methyl (E)- 3-(4-(benzyloxy)-3-methoxyphenyl)acrylate, 4;benzyl (E)-3-(4-(benzyloxy)- 3-methoxyphenyl)acrylate, 6;and (E)-3-(4-(benzyloxy)-3-methoxyphenyl)- acrylic acid, 7;were established by spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction studies. Structure 2 is a new com-pound. Compounds with free phenolic hydroxyls ***. methyl (E)-3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)acrylate 1, 2 and ben-zyl(E)-3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)acrylate 5, showed scavenging free- radical and antioxidant activity while moderate scavenging free-radical was observed in compound 3. Moderate inhibition of lipid peroxidation was observed for 7. Compound 5 exerted significant inhibition of cell growth in PC-3, K562 tumor cell lines and 4 exhibited the largest cytotoxic effect upon the K562 cell line.

Effect of changes in Body Weight,Body Condition and Back Fat During Last Month of Pregnancy on the Reproductive Efficiency of Bos indicus Cows in the Tropics of Costa Rica

With the aim of evaluating how changes in the metabolic status in the last month of pregnancy affects reproductive efficiency, forty six Bos indicus multiparous cows (5.5 ± 2.4 parturitions), were used. Measurements of body weight (BW), body condition score (BCS) and dorsal back fat (BF) were taken in the last month of pregnancy, postpartum period previous to synchronization (average 50 d) and at breeding by natural mating following synchronization with a progestin (average 70 d). Average postpartum days to resumption to ovarian activity were 79.96 ± 16.5 d, and average postpartum days to conception was 88.5 ± 14 d. Days postpartum to resumption of the ovarian activity was positively correlated (0.51, P 0.01) with days postpartum to conception, also, days postpartum to conception was positively correlated with prepartum back fat (14 d before parturition) (0.44, P 0.05). It was observed that BF at calving which is an objective measurement had a low correlation with other productive variables such as BCS and BW (always less than 0.39). Body fat might be a more reliable indicator of the current metabolic status of the animal particularly in the last month of pregnancy when the indicators of BCS are somehow more difficult to interpret and subjective.

Total esophagogastrectomy plus extended lymphadenectomy with transverse colon interposition:A treatment for extensive esophagogastric junction cancer

AIM:To review the post-operative morbidity and mortality of total esophagogastrectomy(TEG) with second barrier lymphadenectomy(D2) with interposition of a transverse colon and to determine the oncological outcomes of TEG D2 with interposition of a transverse ***:This study consisted of a retrospective review of patients with a cancer diagnosis who underwent TEG between 1997 and 2013. Demographic data,surgeryprotocols,complications according to Clavien-Dindo classifications,final pathological reports,oncological follow-ups and causes of death were recorded. We used the TnM 2010 and Japanese classifications for nodal dissection of gastric cancer. We used descriptive statistical analysis and Kaplan-Meier survival curves. A P-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically ***:The series consisted of 21 patients(80.9% men). The median age was 60 years. The 2 main surgical indications were extensive esophagogastric junction cancers(85.7%) and double cancers(14.2%). The mean total surgery time was 405 min(352-465 min). Interposition of a transverse colon through the posterior mediastinum was used for replacement in all cases. Splenectomy was required in 13 patients(61.9%),distal pancreatectomy was required in 2 patients(9.5%) and resection of the left adrenal gland was required in 1 patient(4.7%). no residual cancer surgery was achieved in 75.1% of patients. A total of 71.4% of patients had a postoperative complication. Respiratory complications were the most frequently observed complication. Postoperative mortality was 5.8%. Median follow-up was 13.4 mo. Surgery specific survival at 5 years of follow-up was 32.8%; for patients with curative surgery,it was 39.5% at 5 ***:TEG for cancer with interposition of a transverse colon is a very complex surgery,and it presents high post-operative morbidity and adequate oncological outcomes.

Mapping the Genetic Diversity of Castanea sativa: Exploiting Spatial Analysis for Biogeography and Conservation Studies

The current distribution of forest tree species is a result of natural or human mediated historical and contemporary processes. Knowledge of the spatial distribution of the diversity and divergence of populations is crucial for managing and conserving genetic resources in forest tree species. By combining tools from population genetics, landscape ecology and spatial statistics, landscape genetics thus represents a powerful method for evaluating the geographic patterns of genetic resources at the population level. In this study, we explore the possibility of combining genetic diversity data, spatial statistic tools and GIS technologies to map the genetic divergence and diversity of 31 Castanea sativa populations collected in Spain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. The IDW technique was used to interpolate the diversity values and divergence indices as expected hetereozygosity (He), allelic richness (Rs), private allelic richness (PRs), and membership values (Q) of each population to different clusters. Genetic diversity maps and a synthetic map of the spatial genetic structure of European chestnut populations were produced. Spatial coincidences between landscape elements and statistically significant genetic discontinuities between populations were investigated. Evidence is provided of the significance of cartographic outputs produced in the study and on their usefulness in managing genetic resources.

Piwi-interacting RnAs(piRnAs of 26-32 nt in length)regulate gene expression,epigenetics,and transcriptional and post-transcriptional processes.1 In humans,piRnAs are expressed in germline and somatic tissues,and generally have a uracil at the 5'-end(position+1),an adenine at the+10 position,and are 2'-0 methylated at the 3'-end.2 Onice piRnAs form the RnA-induced silencing complex(RISC)with PIWl proteins,they serve as guides to find their complementary sequences of the target mRnA,thus initiating their *** Wuhan patient's genome is approximately 265 nucleotides(nts)in its 3'-UTR;piRnAs-like sequences have been reported in this region.3 Our objective was to search,through bioinformatics,for mRnA sequences that were homologous to the reverse complementary of the previously reported piRnA-like sequences from the 3'-UTR of SARS-Cov-2,3 and identify the possible interaction between them.

Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the most prevalent pathogens in nosocomial infections and has been cause of concern in recent years because, it has presented multiresistance to antibiotics and besides can form biofilms on biotic and abiotic surfaces like tissues and medical devices. Therefore, the search for new alternatives of natural origin to inhibit biofilm formation is being conducted. In the present investigation, sub-lethal concentrations (5.61 mg/mL, 3.74 mg/mL and 1.87 mg/mL) of methanolic extract of nothoscordum bivalve were evaluated, showing biofilm formation inhibition up to 40.8%, in one nosocomial isolated of A. baumannii by the microtiter biofilm formation assay using crystal violet. On the other hand, the concentrations of 5.61 mg/mL and 3.74 mg/mL, caused an overexpression (up to 15.4 times) in the genes involved in the formation of biofilm (abaI, bap and csuE);due to this, the interaction of the extract with the bacteria was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cellular damage was observed in the structure and stability of biofilm.

Crystallographic Properties of the Unsupported ni-Mo Carbides Phases

In the present work, the crystallographic properties of unsupported ni-Mo catalyst serie were carried out. They were synthesized with a ratio of Mo from 10, 25, 50 to 75 wt%. The final catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) in order to identify crystallographic phases present in the solids using DRXwinsoftware version 2.3. The crystal size was determinated by Bragg’s law. ni-Mo catalyst model (MoC-75) structure was modeled by Carine Crystallography Software version 3.1 which was built based on its space group and atomic positions which were previous the results of XRD. characteristical phases of ni-Mo Carbides were identified for their typical planes (111), (200) and (311) for ni-Mo series and the plane (101) for the a Mo-C series.

Background It is necessary to determine the implications for managing forest stands using variable retention harvesting for maintaining carbon and for calculating the effects of different harvesting practices on above-and below-ground carbon balance in forest *** this context,forest carbon management has gained more attention among managers and policy-makers during recent *** aim of this study was to determine carbon pool dynamics in different forest ecosystem components after variable retention harvesting(VRH)to characterize the ecological stability and quantify the recovery rate through the years-after-harvesting(YAH).Methods Carbon pool compartmentalization of 14 different components was determined in 60 harvested and primary unmanaged forests during the first 18 YAH in Tierra del Fuego(Argentina).We compared them using uni-and multi-variate methods,relativizing the outputs with primary unmanaged *** We determined the effectiveness to retain carbon components in post-harvested stands under different retention strategies(aggregated ***).The balance among carbon pool components changed between managed and unmanaged stands across the YAH,and was directly related to the impact *** retention improved the ecological stability of the harvested areas,where the below-ground components were more stable than the above-ground *** recovery rate was directly related to the post-harvesting natural dynamics of the *** studied period was not enough to fully recover the C levels of primary unmanaged for-ests,but VRH showed advantages to increase the C pools in the managed *** Promoting VRH can improve sustainable forestry at the landscape level and in the long term,generating positive synergies with biodiversity and the provision of ecosystem *** study provides important new insights into forest carbon management,in particular to setting standards in carbon projects and sets the ground
