Biomass Productivity and Physical Properties of the Soil after Cultivation of Cover Plant in the Autumn and Winter

The species that can be used as cover plants are many, which makes it difficult to make a choice, since there is no ideal plant, and it is necessary to make a survey of the most favorable species. The objective of this study was to evaluate the biomass productivity of cover crops in autumn and winter (Poaceaea and Fabaceae), and their effects on soil physical properties at different depths. The experimental design was of randomized blocks with subdivided plots, with six replications. The plots consisted of four cover crops in autumn and winter;two Poaceae (black oats and brachiaria) and two Fabaceae (fried pea and white lupine). The subplots were at different depths of evaluations;0 - 0.05;0.05 - 0.10 and 0.10 - 0.15 m to determine the pore volume and soil density;and 0 to 0.40 m to resistance to penetration. Were evaluated: dry mass yield;soil surface cover index;volume of macropores, micropores, total porosity;soil density;and soil resistance to penetration. It was verified that the family of plants Fabaceae showed higher dry matter yield (4400 kg·ha-1), however, the lower soil cover rate (68.71%). The highest volume of macropores (0.05 m3·m-3) and the lowest soil resistance to penetration were observed in the soil cultivated with Poaceae family cover plants, in the respective depths of 0 - 0.10 m and 0.05 - 0.20 m.

The discovery and realization of topological insulators,a phase of matter which hosts metallic boundary states when the ddimension insulating bulk is confined to(d−1)-dimensions,led to several potential ***,it was shown that protected topological states can manifest in(d−2)-dimensions,such as hinge and corner states for three-and two-dimensional systems,*** nontrivial materials are named higher-order topological insulators(HOTIs).Here we show a connection between spin Hall effect and HOTIs using a combination of ab initio calculations and tight-binding *** model demonstrates how a non-zero bulk midgap spin Hall conductivity(SHC)emerges within the HOTI *** this,we performed high-throughput density functional theory calculations to find unknown HOTIs,using the SHC as a *** calculated the SHC of 693 insulators resulting in seven stable two-dimensional *** work guides novel experimental and theoretical advances towards higher-order topological insulator realization and applications.

Artificial Neural Network for Websites Classification with Phishing Characteristics

Several threats are propagated by malicious websites largely classified as phishing. Its function is important information for users with the purpose of criminal practice. In summary, phishing is a technique used on the Internet by criminals for online fraud. The Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are computational models inspired by the structure of the brain and aim to simu-late human behavior, such as learning, association, generalization and ab-straction when subjected to training. In this paper, an ANN Multilayer Per-ceptron (MLP) type was applied for websites classification with phishing cha-racteristics. The results obtained encourage the application of an ANN-MLP in the classification of websites with phishing characteristics.

Influence of Environmental and Microclimate Factors on the Coffee Beans Quality (C. canephora): Correlation between Chemical Analysis and Stable Free Radicals

The present study reports a physicochemical comparison of shade-grown and sun-grown coffee beans, under unripe, rip and roasted-ripe conditions, using electrical conductivity measurements, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Moreover, the assessed physicochemical parameters were compared with organoleptic evaluations based on the Coffee Quality Institute protocol. The values found for electrical conductivity, leached potassium, and stable free radicals were respectively 29%, 31%, and 350% higher for shade-grown coffee beans, whereas polyphenol oxidase enzymatic activity was 23% lower. By contrast, FTIR and HPLC measurements identified higher chlorogenic acid and lipid contents in sun-grown coffee beans. Importantly, the sensorial grade attributed to roasted-ripe grains was 12% higher for sun-grown coffee. Our findings suggest that shade-grown coffee beans have undergone microorganismal activity and undesired fermentation during cultivation, which resulted in lower coffee quality. A correlation between a set of selected physicochemical properties and organoleptic properties was robustly established and could be used in the development of future coffee bean quality control protocols.

Do Cytokines Play a Role in Predicting Some Features and Outcome in Infective Endocarditis?

Objective: This study aimed to measure the serum concentrations of several cytokines in patients with infective endocarditis (IE), and correlate them with the C-reactive protein serum levels, echocardiographic findings and infecting microorganisms. Methods: Forty-five patients with definite IE according to the Duke’s criteria were included in the study. Ten healthy blood donors formed the control group. Serum levels of interleukin (IL) 1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were measured and compared between the groups, and also with some clinical and laboratory parameters of IE. Results: Patients with IE had significantly higher serum concentrations of the inflammatory mediators than the control patients. Median IL-12 and IL-1β levels were higher in staphylococcal than streptococcal IE. Except for TNF-α, the levels of all the other cytokines correlated with the C-reactive protein concentrations. In multivariate analysis, IL-10 and IL-12 serum levels remained as independent factors associated with the C-reactive protein concentrations. There was a significant correlation between IL-10 concentration and vegetation length. Conclusion: The inflammatory serum cytokines levels were elevated in IE in comparison to healthy controls. C-reactive protein concentrations correlated with cytokines levels. IL-1β and IL-12 serum concentrations were higher in staphylococcal when compared to streptococcal IE. IL-10 levels were associated with vegetation size.

Study on In-Vitro Degradation of Bioabsorbable Polymers Poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-valerate)-(PHBV)and Poly(caprolactone)-(PCL)

The increasing use of bioabsorbable polymeric materials in medicine has stimulated researchers in the materials field to search for solutions for the replacement of metallic artifacts by bioabsorbable polymers. Therefore, this study describes the in vitro degradation of PHBV, PCL and the blends of these polymers, both of which are bioabsorbable polymers. The samples were prepared by extrusion followed by injection, and subjected submitted to in vitro degradation in phosphate buffered saline solution with pH 7.3 and kept at 37° C. Through the characterization of the variation of mass, molar mass, mechanical properties and morphology, the results indicated that the samples analyzed are more stable to hydrolytic degradation when compared to other bioabsorbable polymers. The materials indicate signs of degradation after 30 days, with a small reduction in the molar mass. After 180 days, the materials indicated a significant reduction of molar mass and reduction in the mechanical properties.
