Photoconductive switches were the key components that allowed the generation and detection of coherent broadband electromagnetic pulses at terahertz frequencies, opening the possibility for performing spectroscopy and,therefore, measuring complex dielectric properties of materials in this band, which was mostly unexplored. In this paper, we present a brief introduction to the operation principles of these devices. Subsequently, we present a review of the current state-of-the-art in this field and discuss the challenges to be faced in future development of these devices.

In this research work, the thermal conductivity and density of alumina/silica(Al_2O_3/SiO_2) in water hybrid nanofluids at different temperatures and volume concentrations have been modeled using the artificial neural networks(ANN). The nanocolloid involved in the study was synthesized by the two-step method and characterized by XRD, TEM, SEM–EDX and zeta potential analysis. The properties of the synthesized nanofluid were measured at various volume concentrations(0.05%, 0.1% and 0.2%) and temperatures(20 to 60 °c). Established on the observational data and ANN, the optimum neural structure was suggested for predicting the thermal conductivity and density of the hybrid nanofluid as a function of temperature and solid volume concentrations. The results indicate that a neural network with 2 hidden layers and 10 neurons have the lowest error and a highest fitting coefficient o thermal conductivity, whereas in the case of density, the structure with 1 hidden layer consisting of 4 neurons proved to be the optimal structure.

Background: The protective role of (poly)phenols against metabolic disorders has been extensively studied in adults but not in ***: To assess associations of dietary (poly)phenols and their subclasses with cardiometabolic health parameters in adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 944 individuals aged 11 to 14 years enrolled in the SI! Program for Secondary Schools trial (NcT03504059). (Poly)phenol intake was assessed using semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires and the Phenol-Explorer database. The measured cardiometabolic parameters were waist circumference (Wc) age-sex z-score， blood pressure (BP) age-sex z-score， blood glucose (BG)， triglycerides (TG)， and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c). Multilevel mixed-effect linear regression models were applied to examine the association between (poly)phenol quintiles and cardiometabolic health ***: compared to the lowest quintile， adolescents in the highest quintile of total (poly)phenol intake had lower Wc z-scores (β=-0.09， 95%cI=-0.09;-0.08， P-for trend=0.002)， mean arterial pressure z-scores (β =-0.11， 95%cI=-0.12;-0.09， P-for trend=0.206)， and HDL-c (β=-1.52， 95%cI=-2.90;-0.14， P-for trend=0.108)， after multivariable adjustment. The Wc z-scores (β=-0.11， 95%cI=-0.19;-0.03， P-for trend=0.013) and HDL-c (β=-2.16， 95%cI=-3.78;-0.53， P-for trend=0.046) were lower in the highest quintile of flavonoid intake compared to the lowest quintile. AIM： To study the blood-brain barrier integrity in prehepatic portal hypertensive rats induced by partial portal vein ligation, at 14 and 40 dafer ligation when portal pressure is spontaneously normalized. METHODS： Adult male Wistar rats were divided into four groups： Group Ⅰ： Sham14d, sham operated; Group Ⅱ： PHil, portal vein stenosis, （both groups were used 14 days after surgery）; Group Ⅲ： Sham4od, Sham operated and Group Ⅳ： PH4od Portal vein stenosis （Groups Ⅱ and Ⅳ used 40 d afer surgery）. Plasma ammonia, plasma and cerebrospinal fluid protein and liver enzymes concentrations were determined. Trypan and Evans blue dyes, systemically injected, were investigated in hippocampus to study blood-brain barrier integrity. Portal pressure was periodically recorded. RESULTS： Forty days afer stricture, portal pressure was normalized, plasma ammonia was moderately high, and both dyes were absent in central nervous system parenchyma. All other parameters were reestablished. When portal pressure was normalized and ammonia level was lowered, but not normal, the altered integrity of blood-brain barrier becomes reestablished. cONcLUSION： The impairment of blood-brain barrier and subsequent normalization could be a mechanism involved in hepatic encephalopathy reversibility. Hemodynamic changes and ammonia could trigger blood-brain barrier alterations and its reestablishment.

The surface-assisted hierarchical self-assembly of DNA origami lattices represents a versatile and straightforward method for the organization of functional nanoscale objects such as proteins and ***,we demonstrate that controlling the binding and exchange of different monovalent and divalent cation species at the DNA-mica interface enables the self-assembly of highly ordered DNA origami lattices on mica *** development of lattice quality and order is quantified by a detailed topological analysis of high-speed atomic force microscopy(HS-AFM)*** find that lattice formation and quality strongly depend on the monovalent cation ***^(+)is more effective than Li^(+)and K^(+)in facilitating the assembly of high-quality DNA origami lattices,because it is replacing the divalent cations at their binding sites in the DNA backbone more *** regard to divalent cations,ca^(2+)can be displaced more easily from the backbone phosphates than Mg^(2+)and is thus superior in guiding lattice *** independently adjusting incubation time,DNA origami concentration,and cation species,we thus obtain a highly ordered DNA origami lattice with an unprecedented normalized correlation length of *** the correlation length,we use computer vision algorithms to compute the time course of different topological observables that,overall,demonstrate that replacing Mgcl_(2) by cacl_(2) enables the synthesis of DNA origami lattices with drastically increased lattice order.

cell-suspension cultures（Zea mays L.,Black Mexican sweet corn） habituated to 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile（DcB） survive with reduced cellulose owing to hemicellulose network modification. We aimed to de fine the hemicellulose metabolism modifications in DcB-habituated maize cells showing a mild reduction in cellulose at different stages in the culture cycle. Using pulse-chase radiolabeling, we fed habituated and non-habituated cultures with [3H]arabinose,and traced the distribution of 3H-pentose residues between xylans, xyloglucans and other polymers in several cellular compartments for 5 h. Habituated cells were slower taking up exogenous [3H]arabinose. Tritium was incorporated into polysaccharide-bound arabinose and xylose residues, but habituated cells diverted a higher proportion of their new [3H]xylose residues into（hetero） xylans at the expense of xyloglucan synthesis. During logarithmic growth, habituated cells showed slower vesicular traf ficking of polymers,especially xylans. Moreover, habituated cells showed a decrease in the strong wall-binding of all pentose-containing polysaccharides studied; correspondingly, especially in log phase cultures, habituation increased the proportion of 3H-hemicelluloses（[3H]xylans and [3H]xyloglucan） sloughed into the medium. These findings could be related to the cel walls’ cellulose-deficiency, and consequent reduction in binding sites for hemicelluloses; the data could also re fl ect the habituated cells’ reduced capacity to integrate arabinox ylans by extra-protoplasmic phenolic cross-linking, as well as xyloglucans, during wall assembly.
