Whilst much attention has been given to models that describe wave, tide and sediment transport processes in sufficient detail to determine the local changes in bed level over a relatively detailed representation of the bathymetry, far less attention has been given to models that consider the problem at a much larger scale （e.g. that of geomorphological elements such as a tidal flat and tidal channel）. Such aggregated or lumped models tend not to represent the processes in detail but rather capture the behaviour at the scale of interest. One such model developed using the concept of an equilibrium concentration is the Aggregated Scale Morphological Interaction between Tidal basin and Adjacent coast （ASMITA）. In a companion paper （Part 1）, we detail the original model and provide some new insights into the concepts of equilibrium, and horizontal and vertical exchange that are key components of this modelling approach. In this paper, we summarise a range of developments that have been undertaken to extend the original model concept, to illustrate the flexibility and power of the conceptual framework. However, adding detail progressively moves the model in the direction of the more detailed process-based models and we give some consideration to the boundary between the two.

Poly(lactide-co-glycolide acid)(PLGA) is an extraordinary well-described polymer and has excellent pharmaceutical properties like high biocompatibility and good biodegradability. Hence, it is one of the most used materials for drug delivery and biomedical systems, also being present in several US Food and Drug Administration-approved carrier systems and therapeutic devices. For both applications, the quantification of the polymer is inalienable. During the development of a production process, parameters like yield or loading efficacy are essential to be determined. Although PLGA is a well-defined biomaterial,it still lacks a sensitive and convenient quantification approach for PLGA-based systems. Thus, we present a novel method for the fast and precise quantification of PLGA by RP-HPLC. The polymer is hydrolyzed into its monomers, glycolic acid and lactic acid. Afterwards, the monomers are derivatized with the absorption-enhancing molecule 2,4′-dibromoacetophenone. Furthermore, the wavelength of the derivatized monomers is shifted to higher wavelengths, where the used solvents show a lower absorption,increasing the sensitivity and detectability. The developed method has a detection limit of 0.1 mg/mL,enabling the quantification of low amounts of PLGA. By quantifying both monomers separately, information about the PLGA monomer ratio can be also directly obtained, being relevant for degradation behavior. Compared to existing approaches, like gravimetric or nuclear magnetic resonance measurements, which are tedious or expensive, the developed method is fast, ideal for routine screening, and it is selective since no stabilizer or excipient is interfering. Due to the high sensitivity and rapidity of the method, it is suitable for both laboratory and industrial uses.

The jasmonic acid （JA） pathway is the main signal-transduction pathway induced by insect folivory. Mutant plants affected in the jasmonate pathway （18：0 and/or 16：0-oxylipin routes） were studied to assess the effects of JA and its oxylipin intermediates 12-oxophytodienoic acid （OPDA） and dinor-OPDA （dnOPDA） on interconnected signal- transduction pathways that underlie induced defenses in Arabidopsis. Our data show that the oxylipin jasmonates dnOPDA, OPDA and JA have different roles in defense signaling induced after feeding by the chewing-biting caterpillar Pieris rapae. Jasmonic acid, and not OPDA or dnOPDA, is the major signaling compound required for the induction of the defense-related genes LOX2 （Lipo：~vgenase 2）, OPR3 （12-Oxophytodienoate reductase 3）, ACX1 （Acyl-CoA oxidase 1） and PAL1 （Phenvlalanine ammonia-lyase 1）. Monitoring PAL1 transcript levels clearly showed that accumulation of JA upon P rapae feeding results in the induction of the salicylic acid pathway. Furthermore, JA is the major signaling compound required for the P rapae-induced expression of the defense-related gene HPL1 （Hydroperoxide lyase 1）. The jasmonate dnOPDA influences the induction of the HPk- branch as well, yet its effect is antagonistic to the effect of JA. Our data show that these jasmonates may be used to fine-tune Arabidopsis＇ herbivore-induced responses in terms of the HPL-branch from the oxylipin pathway.

This study uses logistic and Poisson regression models to examine the factors influencing the adoption of sustain-able land management(SLM)practices in Mali using two rounds of the nationally representative survey Enquête Agricole de Conjoncture Intégrée aux Conditions de Vie des Mé*** SLMs considered include the applica-tion of organic fertilizers,the application of inorganic fertilizers,the use of improved seeds,and the practice of *** average the application of organic fertilizers(39.2%),and inorganic fertilizers(28.7%)are the most frequent SLM practices among Malian farmers,and between 2014 and 2017,we observe a decline in the practice of *** regression results show that farmers’adoption of different SLMs is significantly associated with biophysical factors(average temperature,climate type,plot size,plot shape,and location),de-mographic factors(age,gender,education,household size),and socioeconomic factors(number of cultivated plots,livelihood diversification,type of crop grown,market access,credit access,economic shocks,and social capital).Our findings suggest that policymakers and agricultural development agencies in Mali need to adopt a multidimensional policy framework to unlock the untapped potential of SLM practices in promoting sustainable agriculture and food security.

Until recently, many computational materials scientists have shown little interest in materials databases. This is now changing be-cause the amount of computational data is rapidly increasing and the potential for data mining provides unique opportunities for discovery and optimization. Here, a few examples of such opportunities are discussed relating to structural analysis and classification, discovery of correlations between materials properties, and discovery of unsuspected compounds.
