Effects of Soluble Silicate and Nanosilica Application on Rice Nutrition in an Oxisol

Silicon （Si） has been supplied to plants via application of calcium silicate to soil; however, high doses of calcium silicate are required because of its low solubility. Nanoparticles can reduce Si doses and be applied to seeding furrows. This study investigated the effects of liquid Si sources, i.e., highly soluble silicate （115.2 g L^-1 Si and 60.5 g L^-1 Na20） and nanosilica （〈 200 nm）, on Si uptake by rice plants, plant lignification, plant C：N：P stoichiometry, plant physiology, and grain yield using an Oxisol under greanhouse condistions. The treatments included the application of nanosilica and soluble silicate to seeding furrows at Si doses of 0, 605, 1210, and 2 420 g ha^-1. Plant uptake and treatment effects were evaluated by measuring C and lignin contents, Si, N, and P accumulation, physiological characteristics, and grain yield of rice. The deposition of silica bodies and amorphous silica in the flag leaves was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy. Application of liquid Si increased Si accumulation in rice by 47.3% in relation to the control （0 g ha^-1 Si）, regardless of the Si sources used. Nanosilica application increased leaf lignin content by 112.7% when compared to that in the control. Silicon moderately affected the net C assimilation （increased by 1.83%） and transpiration rates （increased by 48.3%）; however, Si influenced neither plant growth nor grain yield of rice. These results are explained by the lack of biotic or abiotic stress in rice plants during the experiment. To the best of our knowledge, in Brazilian agriculture, this is the first report on the use of nanosilica as a Si fertilizer and its effect on plant nutrition. This study provides evidence that rice plants absorb and accumulate nanoparticles; however, further studies are required to investigate the use of nanoparticles in other plant species.

Protective Effect of Mongolian Medicine Youning Bawei Powder on Liver Injury Induced by CCl4 in Mice

[Objectives]To study the protective effect of Mongolian medicine Youning Bawei Powder on liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride(CCl_(4))in mice.[Methods]The experimental mice were divided into 5 groups:normal group,model group,positive control group,low-dose group and high-dose group of Mongolian medicine Youning Bawei *** model group was induced by CCl_(4),the positive control group was treated with liver-protecting tablet,and the Mongolian medicine group was treated with Youning Bawei Powder for one *** liver tissue injury of mice in each group was observed by HE staining,and the levels of serum ALT,AST,SOD and MDA were detected.[Results]Mongolian medicine Youning Bawei Powder significantly improved the pathological liver injury induced by CCl_(4),significantly decreased the content of ALT,AST and MDA in serum of mice with CCl_(4) liver injury,and significantly increased the activity of serum SOD.[Conclusions]Youning Bawei Powder,a Mongolian medicine,has a protective effect on liver injury induced by CCl_(4) in mice.

Generalized q-exponentials functions are employed to make a generalization of complete and incomplete gamma functions. We obtain a generalization of this class of special functions which are very important in the fields of probability, statistics, statistical physics as well as combinatorics and we derive some of its properties. One gets that the generalized gamma function obtained whether approaches of the standard gamma function for a specific q values such as q=q0≈0.9 value suffering a large variation with the variation of q.

Objective:To evaluate the larvicidal efficacy of eight volatile components of essential oils against 3rd instar larvae of Anopheles gambiae ***:Larvicidal effects of each compound were evaluated in both laboratory and semi-field *** solution was prepared and serial dilutions were made in six concentrations for each compound.A total of 20 larvae were exposed to larvicides for each replicate and monitored at intervals of 12,24,48 and 72 *** monitoring was done on basis of dead and live larvae in all ***:All assayed compounds were larvicides and presented varying degrees of larval toxicity,with LC50 values ranging from 1.28 to 1 938.92 mg/L depending on the treatment time(12,24,48 or 72 h).(-)-Perillyl alcohol presented the strongest larvicidal activity towards Anopheles gambiae larvae,with LC_(50) values of 73.60,18.36,1.72 and1.28 mg/L after 12,24,48 and 72 h of exposure,*** next strongest were(-)-isopulegol(LC_(50)= 135.10,49.39,34.39 and 20.22 mg/L) and(-)-carvone epoxide(LC_(50)= 168.86,124.74,80.84 and 23.46 mg/L).After 12,24 and 48 h of treatment,hydroxydihydrocarvone was the least toxic compound,with LC_(50) values of 1 938.92,1 172.18 and 401.03 mg/L,***:The data obtained in this study suggest that all evaluated monoterpenes,especially(-)-perillyl alcohol,have remarkable larvicidal effects and may be considered as potential sources for the development of suitable natural larvicides for mosquito management *** small-scale field trials should be conducted.

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a serious public health problem in Brazil and worldwide. Despite the euthanasia of dogs serologically positive, such action has not solved the endemic in Brazil. A risk area for VL involves the presence of the vector, the occurrence of canines and the record of human cases. The factors that have favored the persistence and spread of VL in Brazil are related to the predatory action of man on the environment, to the migratory movements and rural exodus, and a close coexistence of man and animals. Thus considering the epidemiological chain of VL, one fact seems clear: we do not know yet the true extent of the participation of the dog in the infectious cycle of VL. The clinical disease is an important indicator of the extent of the problem in an endemic area. The immunological events are complex and involve resistance and susceptibility to canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL). One aspect in CVL is that many symptomatic dogs underwent xenodiagnosis not infect the vector. In such cases the pattern recognition receptors CD11b+, TLR2+, and NO present higher values for dogs with results in immunohistochemistry of skin and xenodiagnosis negative (IMH-/XENO-) than dogs with immunohistochemistry in skin and xenodiagnosis positive (IMH+/XENO+), suggesting that innate immunity modulates the competence of the dog to infect the vector. The organic response in CVL varies from individual to individual and within the same individual, with a strong evidence of being organ-specific. Only 20% of asymptomatic dogs have parasites in the skin and 15% are able to recover from clinical signs and eliminate the parasites spontaneously. In this review, we analyze the epidemiology of visceral leishmaniasis and clinical, immunological and pathological conditions that can contribute to understanding the role of dogs in transmission of visceral leishmaniasis.

This research assessed the relationship between wood physical-anatomical variables and charcoal physical-mechanical *** trees were harvested and mechanically processed into standard pieces for laboratory *** following variables were determined:wood density,fiber length and width,fiber lumen diameter and wall thickness,fiber wall fraction,and vessel *** charcoal was produced in a laboratory and gravimetric yield,relative density,and mechanical properties ***’s correlation coefficients,multivariate statistical analysis of canonical correlation,and principal component analysis were used to evaluate the relationship between wood and charcoal *** width was not significantly correlated with charcoal *** bulk density,hardness,and strength were positively correlated with wood density,fiber length,wall thickness,and wall *** properties were negatively correlated with fiber lumen diameter and vessel *** results will help identify the best wood with adequate physical-mechanical properties for industrial charcoal proces sing.

Aerodynamic Effects Compensation on Multi-Rotor UAVs Based on a Neural Network Control Allocation Approach

This paper shows that the aerodynamic effects can be compensated in a quadrotor system by means of a control allocation approach using neural ***,the system performance can be improved by replacing the classic allocation matrix,without using the aerodynamic inflow equations *** network training is performed offline,which requires low computational *** target system is a Parrot MAMBO drone whose flight control is composed of PD-PID controllers followed by the proposed neural network control allocation *** a quadrotor is particularly susceptible to the aerodynamics effects of interest to this work,because of its small *** compared the mechanical torques commanded by the flight controller,i.e.,the control input,to those actually generated by the actuators and established at the *** was observed that the proposed neural network was able to closely match them,while the classic allocation matrix could not achieve *** allocation error was also determined in both ***,the closed-loop performance also improved with the use of the proposed neural network control allocation,as well as the quality of the thrust and torque signals,in which we perceived a much less noisy behavior.

Neuropsychological features of progranulin-associated frontotemporal dementia: a nested case-control study

The distinction between sporadic and genetic behavioural-variant frontotemporal dementia(bvFTD)regarding some neuropsychological(NP)features remains ***,progranulin(GRN)-associated bvFTD frequently presents with early episodic memory impairment and some degree of parietal dysfunction which are supporters of Alzheimer’s disease(AD)*** this context,we aimed to characterize the NP profile of GRN-bvFTD as compared to sporadic-bvFTD and AD in patients with mild dementia(Mini-Mental State Examination score≥17 and Clinical Dementia Rating Scale score≤*** identified 21 patients at Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra,Portugal with GRN mutations belonging to fifteen different *** our focus was bvFTD variants,FTD-related aphasic forms(3 patients)were *** remaining 18 GRN-bvFTD were further matched with 18 sporadic-bvFTD and 18 AD patients according to disease staging,age and *** patients completed the Mini-Mental State Examination,Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA)and a comprehensive NP assessment *** were converted into *** between groups in individual NP measures and NP domains were assessed through non-parametric tests(Kruskal-Wallis test analysis)and eta squared(ŋ2)was calculated as a measure of effect *** comparisons show that GRN patients have worse performances on verbal retrieval processes(P=0.039,ŋ2=0.110)and visuoconstructive abilities(P=0.039,ŋ2=0.190)than sporadic bvFTD *** compared to AD,GRN patients present a higher impairment in frontal(P=0.001,ŋ2=0.211)and parietal(P=0.041,ŋ2=0.129)measures and a better performance in memory tasks(P=0.020,ŋ2=0.120).Sporadic-bvFTD forms are worse than AD in frontal measures(P=0.032,ŋ2=0.200),being better in both memory(P=0.010,ŋ2=0.131)and visuospatial skills(P=0.023,ŋ2=0.231).Considering these results,we conclude that GRN-bvFTD patients present a NP profile that associates the typical patterns of FTD and AD ***

We use the Bethe’s ansatz method to study the entanglement of spinons in the quantum phase transition of half integer spin one-dimensional magnetic chains known as quantum wires. We calculate the entanglement in the limit of the number of particles . We obtain an abrupt change in the entanglement next the quantum phase transition point of the anisotropy parameter ?from the gapped phase ?to gapless phase .
