There is an increasing interest in restoring degraded forests,which occupy half of the forest *** the forms of restoration,passive restoration,which involves the elimination of degrading factors and the free evolution of natural dynamics by applying minimal or no management,is gaining *** dynamics is difficult to predict due to the influence of multiple interacting factors such as climatic and edaphic conditions,composition and abundance of species,and the successional character of these ***,we study the natural dynamics of a mixed forest located in central Spain,which maintained an open forest structure,due to intensive use,until grazing and cutting were banned in the *** most frequent woody species in this forest are Fagus sylvatica,Quercus petraea,Quercus pyrenaica,Ilex aquifolium,Sorbus aucuparia,Sorbus aria and Prunus avium,with contrasting shade and drought *** species are common in temperate European deciduous forest and are found here near their southern distribution limit,except for *** order to analyze forest dynamics and composition,three inventories were carried out in 1994,2005 and *** results show that,despite the Mediterranean influence,the natural dynamics of this forest has been mainly determined by different levels of shade *** the abandonment of grazing and cutting,*** expanded rapidly due to its lower shade tolerance,whereas after canopy closure and forest densification,shade-tolerant species gained ground,particularly ***,despite its lower drought and late-frost *** the current dynamics continue,*** will overtake the rest of the species,which will be relegated to sites with shallow soils and steep ***,all the multi-centennial beech trees,which are undergoing a rapid mortality and decline process,will disappear.

The association of physical activity duration and intensity on emotional intelligence in 10-13 year-old children

Previous studies have shown that Physical Activity(PA)has a positive association with emotional health and intelligence in adolescents but none have focused on the relationship of PA duration and intensity on Emotional Intelligence(EI).The purpose of this study was to cross-sectionally assess the association of PA measures on overall EI and its domains in a cohort of 2029 adolescents aged 10-13 years of age in the National Longitudinal Survey for children and Youth(NLScY)from *** linear regression analysis of EI was adjusted for age,sex,annual household income,and health ***-way analysis of variance(ANOVA)was used to relate PA duration measured in minutes,frequency,and intensity categories with continuous GEI scores and also the corresponding scores for domains of *** mean GEI scores were(28.3±6.6)for 0-30 minute(min)PA duration,(30.0±6.5)for 30 tod(30.1±6.5)for≥121 *** was a statistically significant linear trend across PA duration categories,p?***-hoc pairwise comparison revealed that compared to the referent category(category)was statistically significantly lower GEI than each of the other two PA categories(30-59 min;and 60-120 min),both p-valuesd Health Organization(WHO)guidelines for duration and vigorous intensity were positively associated with the higher overall EI and its domains except for Stress Management.

BAcKGROUNd Video-capsule endoscopy(VcE)is an efficient tool that has proven to be highly useful in approaching several gastrointestinal *** was implemented in colombia in 2003,however current characterization of patients undergoing VcE in colombia is limited,and mainly comes from two investigations conducted before the SARS-coV-2 pandemic *** To describe the characteristics of patients undergoing VcEs and establish the main indications,findings,technical limitations,and other outstanding *** A descriptive study was carried out using data from reports of VcE(Pillcam SB3 system)use in a Gastroenterology Unit in Bogotá,colombia between September 2019 and January *** and clinical variables such as indication for the VcE,gastric and small bowel transit times(GTT,SBTT),endoscopic preparation quality,and limitations were described[n(%),median(IQR)].RESULTS A total of 133 VcE reports were *** were in men with a median age of 70 *** majority had good preparation(96.2%),and there were technical limitations in 15.8%of *** main indications were unexplained anemia(91%)or occult bleeding(23.3%).The median GTT and SBTT were 14 and 30 minutes,*** frequencies of bleeding stigma(3.79%)and active bleeding(9.09%)were low,and the most frequent abnormal findings were red spots(28.3%),erosions(17.6%),and vascular ectasias(12.5%).cONcLusION VcE showed high-level *** main indication was unexplained *** bleeding was the most frequent *** with artificial intelligence,VcE can improve diagnostic precision and targeted therapeutic interventions.

Bulked-segregant analysis by deep sequencing(BSA-seq) is a widely used method for mapping QTL(quantitative trait loci) due to its simplicity, speed, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency. However, the ability of BSA-seq to detect QTL is often limited by inappropriate experimental designs, as evidenced by numerous practical studies. Most BSA-seq studies have utilized small to medium-sized populations, with F2populations being the most common choice. Nevertheless, theoretical studies have shown that using a large population with an appropriate pool size can significantly enhance the power and resolution of QTL detection in BSA-seq, with F_(3)populations offering notable advantages over F2populations. To provide an experimental demonstration, we tested the power of BSA-seq to identify QTL controlling days from sowing to heading(dTH) in a 7200-plant rice F_(3)population in two environments, with a pool size of approximately 500. Each experiment identified 34 QTL, an order of magnitude greater than reported in most BSA-seq experiments, of which 23 were detected in both experiments, with 17 of these located near41 previously reported QTL and eight cloned genes known to control dTH in rice. These results indicate that QTL mapping by BSA-seq in large F_(3)populations and multi-environment experiments can achieve high power, resolution, and reliability.

Light sheet microscope scanning of biointegrated microlasers for localized refractive index sensing

Whispering gallery mode(WGM)microlasers are highly sensitive to localized refractive index changes allowing to link their emission spectrum to various chemical,mechanical,or physical *** recently found applications in biological studies within single cells,in three-dimensional samples such as multicellular spheroids,or in ***,detailed studies of biological samples also need to account for the structural heterogeneity of tissues and live animals,therefore requiring a combination of high-resolution microscopy and laser ***,we design and construct a light sheet fluorescence microscope with a coupled spectrometer for use in microlaser studies for combined high-resolution,high-speed imaging and WGM spectral *** light sheet illumination profile and the decoupled geometry of excitation and emission hereby directly affect the lasing and sensing properties,mainly through geometric constraints and by light coupling *** demonstrate the basic working principle of microlaser spectroscopy under light sheet excitation and measure the absolute refractive index within agarose and in zebrafish tail muscle *** further analyze the light coupling conditions that lead to the occurrence of two separate oscillation *** so-called cross modes can be scanned around the entire microlaser surface,which allows to estimate a surface-averaged refractive index profile of the microlaser environment.
