Few studies have analyzed the effect of ve- nous thromboembolism （VTE） events on the prognosis of pancreatic cancer, but their results were conflicting. The pres- ent study was undertaken to determine the effect of VTE on pancreatic adenocarcinoma （PA） outcomes. METHoDS： All consecutive patients diagnosed with PA from May 2004 to January 2012 in a single oncology center were retrospectively studied. Clinical, radiological and histologi- cal data at time of diagnosis or within the first 3 months after surgery, including the presence （＋） or absence （-） of VTE were collected. VTE was defined as radiological evidence of either pulmonary embolism （PE）, deep venous thrombosis without infection or catheter-related thrombosis. PA with and without PE was compared for survival using the Kaplan-Meier method to estimate overall survival. RESULTS： Among 162 PA patients with a median follow-up of 15 （3-92） months after diagnosis, 28 demonstratedVTE （＋）. PA patients with and without PE were similar for age, American Society of Anesthesiologist score, body mass index, and histo- ry of treatment. The distribution of cancer stages was similarbetween the two groups VTE （＋） and VTE （-）. The median du- ration of survival was significantly worse in the VTE （＋） group vs VTE （-）（12 vs 18 months, P=0.010）. In multivariate analysis, the presence of VTE and surgical treatment were independent prognostic factors for overall survival. CoNCLUSIoN： VTE （＋） at time of diagnosis or within the first 3 months after surgery during treatment is an indepen- dent factor of poor prognosis in PA.

Beacon-Less Geographic Routing in Real Wireless Sensor Networks

Geographic Routing （gr） algorithms require nodes to periodically transmit HELLo messages to allow neighbors to know their positions （beaconing mechanism）. Beacon-less routing algorithms have recently been proposed to reduce the control overheads due to these messages. However, existing beacon-less algorithms have not considered realistic physical layers. Therefore, those algorithms cannot work properly in realistic scenarios. In this paper we present a new beacon-less routing protocol called BoSS. Its design is based on the conclusions of our open-field experiments using Tmote-sky sensors. BoSS is adapted to error-prone networks and incorporates a new mechanism to reduce collisions and duplicate messages produced during the selection of the next forwarder node. We compare BoSS with Beacon-Less Routing （BLR） and Contention-Based Forwarding （CBF） algorithms through extensive simulations. The results show that our scheme is able to *** almost perfect packet delivery ratio （like BLR） while having a low bandwidth consumption （even lower than CBF）. Additionally, we carried out an empirical evaluation in a real testbed that shows the correctness of our simulation results.

A Novel Ensemble Learning System for Cyberattack Classification

Nowadays,IT systems rely mainly on artificial intelligence(AI)algorithms to process *** is generally used to extract knowledge from stored information and,depending on the nature of data,it may be necessary to apply different AI *** this article,a novel perspective on the use of AI to ensure the cybersecurity through the study of network traffic is *** is done through the construction of a two-stage cyberattack classification ensemble model addressing class imbalance following a one-vs-rest(ovR)*** the growing trend of cyberattacks,it is essential to implement techniques that ensure legitimate access to *** address this issue,this work proposes a network traffic classification system for different categories based on several AI *** the first task,binary models are generated to clearly differentiate each type of traffic from the *** binary models generated,an ensemble model is developed in two phases,which allows the separation of legitimate and illegitimate traffic(phase 1)while also identifying the type of illegitimate traffic(phase 2).In this way,the proposed system allows a complete multiclass classification of network *** estimation of global performance is done using a modern dataset(UNSW-NB15),evaluated using two approaches and compared with other state-of-art *** proposal,based on the construction of a two-step model,reaches an F1 of 0.912 for the first level of binary classification and 0.7754 for the multiclass *** results show that the proposed system outperforms other state-of-the-art approaches(+0.75%and+3.54%for binary and multiclass classification,respectively)in terms of F1,as demon-strated through comparison together with other relevant classification metrics.

Geographic ranges of ascidians from Antarctica and the southeastern Pacific

Historical and novel data on the geographic and bathymetric distribution of ascidians from Antarctic, Magellan and Chilean waters are compiled, and an inventory of taxa comprising 162 species reported over a 150 year period from the Antarctic region South Polar Province （SPP） compiled. The ascidian fauna from the South Shetland Islands （ssi） is compared with that of the Magellan region, Patagonia and the Chilean coast. We collected 46 ascidian species along the Chilean coast, and during four expeditions to King George Island （ssi） by SCUBA between 2003-2012. About 15% of King George Island （ssi） species are observed to occur also in shallow waters of southern Chile （SCL）. Few species known from warm temperate southeastern Pacific （Northern Chile, NCL） waters are absent from the Chilean part of the Magellan Province （SCL）. With most data contributed from the Chilean coast coming from the SCL, and with limited sampling having been undertaken at depths exceeding 100 m in the NCL, apparent differences in species richness along the Chilean coast could be attributabed to differential sampling effort. We detail 12 species from our Antarctic and Chilean collections in detail, including one, Diplosoma listerianum, not previously reported from Chilean waters, and the genus Botryllus, previously known from them on the basis of a single record.

BACKgroUND Faecal immunochemical test(FIT)has been recommended to assess symptomatic patients for colorectal cancer(CRC)***,some conditions could theoretically favour blood originating in proximal areas of the gastrointestinal tract passing through the colon unmetabolized.A positive FIT result could be related to other gastrointestinal cancers(GIC).AIM To assess the risk of GIC detection and related death in FIT-positive symptomatic patients(threshold 10μg Hb/g faeces)without *** Post hoc cohort analysis performed within two prospective diagnostic test studies evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of different FIT analytical systems for CRC and significant colonic lesion *** patients with gastrointestinal symptoms referred consecutively for colonoscopy from primary and secondary healthcare,underwent a quantitative FIT before undergoing a complete *** without CRC were divided into two groups(positive and negative FIT)using the threshold of 10μg Hb/g of faeces and data from follow-up were retrieved from electronic medical records of the public hospitals involved in the *** determined the cumulative risk of GIC,CRC and upper *** rate(HR)was calculated adjusted by age,sex and presence of significant colonic *** We included 2709 patients without CRC and a complete baseline colonoscopy,730(26.9%)with FIT≥10μgr Hb/*** a mean time of 45.5±20.0 mo,a GIC was detected in 57(2.1%)patients:An upper GIC in 35(1.3%)and a CRC in 14(0.5%).Thirty-six patients(1.3%)died due to GIC:22(0.8%)due to an upper GIC and 9(0.3%)due to ***-positive subjects showed a higher CRC risk(HR 3.8,95%CI:1.2-11.9)with no differences in GIC(HR 1.5,95%CI:0.8-2.7)or upper GIC risk(HR 1.0,95%CI:0.5-2.2).Patients with a positive FIT had only an increased risk of CRC-related death(HR 10.8,95%CI:2.1-57.1)and GIC-related death(HR 2.2,95%CI:1.1-4.3),with no differences in upper GIC-related death(HR 1.4,95%CI:0.6-3.3).An
