The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of alexidine（ALX）,alone and combined with N-acetylcysteine（NAC）,in eradicating two enterococcus faecalis strain *** biofilms of *** ATCC 29212 and the clinical isolate *** D1 were grown in the MBeC-high-throughput device for 24 h and were exposed to five twofold dilutions of ALX（2%–0.007 8%）alone and combined with100 mg？mL21NAC,for 1 and 5 *** was defined as 100%kill of biofilm *** Student’s t-test was used to compare the efficacy of the associations of the two *** 1-min contact time,ALX eradicated the biofilms at all concentrations except for 0.007 8%and 0.015 6%–0.007 8%with *** ATCC 29212 and *** D1,*** results for eradication and concentration were obtained when it was combined with 100 mg？*** 5 min of contact time,ALX alone and combined with NAC eradicated all enterococci *** showed antimicrobial properties against the two *** strain biofilms tested at very low concentrations,and its combined use with NAC was not seen to enhance its activity.

The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation(AMOC)is a crucial component of the earth’s climate system due to its fundamental role in heat distribution,carbon and oxygen transport,and the *** climate components,such as the atmosphere and sea ice,influence the *** the physical mechanisms of those interactions is paramount to increasing knowledge about AMOC’s *** this study,the authors used outputs from the Community earth System Model version 2 and observational data to investigate changes in theAMOC and the associated physical *** DeCK experiments were evaluated:piControl and 1pctCO_(2),with an annual increase of 1%of atmospheric CO_(2).The analysis revealed a significant decrease in the AMOC,associated with changes in mixed layer depth and buoyancy in high latitudes of the North Atlantic,resulting in the shutdown of deep convection and potentially affecting the formation of North Atlantic Deep Water and Antarctic Bottom Water.A vital aspect observed in this study is the association between increased runoff and reduced water evaporation,giving rise to a positive feedback ***,the rates of freshwater spreading have intensified during this period,which could lead to an accelerated disruption of the AMOC beyond the projections of existing models.

Dear editors, The way in which religious texts and sources depict the processes involved in the regulation of life is an interesting and rich topic. For example, the Holy Bible, the religious basis of Western civilization, is a document that includes references to medical, as well as historic cultural practicestu. Sun has already demonstrated that the Bible contains rich medical materials on different subjects in which the roots of modem medicine can be seen. We would like to expand this view to show that religious documents, with a focus on the Holy Bible, are illustrative of period understanding of life and human biological rhythmicity and chronobiology.

AIM：To evaluate the methylation status of CDH1, FHIT, MTAP and PLAGL1 promoters and the association of these findings with clinico-pathological characteristics.MeTHODS： Methylation-specific PCr （MSP） assay was performed in 13 nonneoplastic gastric adenocarcinorna, 30 intestinal-type gastric adenocarcinorna and 35 diffuse-type gastric adenocarcinorna samples from individuals in Northern Brazil. Statistical analyses were performed using the chi-square or Fisher＇s exact test to assess associations between rnethylation status and clinico-pathological characteristics.reSULTS： Hypermethylation frequencies of CDH1, FHIT, MTAPand PLAGL1 promoter were 98.7%, 53.9%, 23.1% and 29.5%, respectively. Hyperrnethylation of three or four genes revealed a significant association with diffuse-type gastric cancer compared with nonneoplastic cancer. A higher hyperrnethylation frequency was significantly associated with H pylori infection in gastric cancers, especially with diffuse-type. Cancer samples without lymph node metastasis showed a higher FHIT hypermethylation frequency. MTAP hypermethylation was associated with H pylori in gastric cancer samples, as well as with diffuse-type compared with intestinal-type. In diffuse-type, MTAP hypermethylation was associated with female gender.CONCLUSION： Our findings show differential gene methylation in tumoral tissue, which allows us to conclude that hypermethylation is associated with gastric carcinogenesis. MTAP promoter hypermethylation can be characterized as a marker of diffuse-type gastric cancer, especially in women and may help in diagnosis, prognosis and therapies. The H pylori infectious agent was present in 44.9% of the samples. This infection may be correlated with the carcinogenic process through the gene promoter hypermethylation, especially the MTAP promoter in diffuse-type. A higher H pylori infection in diffuse-type may be due to greater genetic predisposition.

The outcome of patients with osteosarcoma has not significantly improved in the last three decades. Therefore, there is still a need for the development of more effective therapeutic strategies. Methoxyamine (MX) is a base excision repair (Ber) inhibitor that has shown anticancer potential by sensitizing a variety of tumor cells to ionizing radiation and chemotherapeutic drugs. In the present study, the in vitro antiproliferative effects of MX were evaluated in two osteosarcoma cell lines, HOS and MG-63. evaluation of the influence on radiosensitivity and drug interactions in simultaneous treatments with methotrexate, doxorubicin, and cisplatin was also performed. exposure to MX significantly decreased cell proliferation and mediated a substantial increase of apoptosis. Moreover, our results showed that MX synergized with ionizing radiation in both cell lines while potentiated the antitumor effects of cisplatin and methotrexate. Altogether, the results pr.sen.ed herein demonstrate the feasibility of inhibiting the Ber pathway, which may in future be a promising strategy for overcoming intrinsic tumor resistance and to improve the outcome of patients with osteosarcoma.

To the editor： We have read with interest the recently published article by Li et al focusing on the clinicopathologic features and biological behavior of five female patients presenting with rhabdomyosarcoma （rMS） of the breast. Actually, the occurrence of rMS in this location, either primarily or as a metastatic disease, is a very rare event and the impact of this clinical presentation on treatment and outcome remains poorly defined. Moreover, the diagnosis of breast involvement by rMS may be challenging, particularly due to the rarity of this clinical presentation.

The aim of this feasibility study was to contrast rectus abdominis (rA) muscle strength and electrical activity after two abdominal training protocols, conventional kinesiotherapy (CK) and Pilates mat exercises (PMe). 13 participants were randomized to one of two groups: CK and PMe, and were trained accordingly. The upper rectus abdominis (UrA) and lower rectus abdominis (LrA) were independently examined and intra-group and inter-group comparison were done. Findings demonstrate a significant increase in rA strength after both protocols, relative to baseline. Significantly increased electrical activation was seen in the UrA after CK. Training with PMe, although as efficient as CK in strength improvement, produced decreased activation level of muscles. CK training induced an opposite result. The differences after training suggest that CK and PMe training programmers may strength rA, but the neuromuscular activation strategies for that are not the same. PMe can be incorporated into protocols to improve abdominals strength, and trunk stabilization.

One of the main tools for monitoring the condition of high voltage equipment is the measurement of partial discharges(PD).The electromagnetic(eM)radiation originated from this degradation phenomenon can be captured by various types of ultra‐high fre-quency(UHF)antennas carefully designed and optimised for specific frequency ***,the pr.sen.e of environmental noise may limit the use of this *** types of monopole antennas normally used in UHF PD measurement have been evaluated in order to validate the performance of a novel separation technique of eM ***,a new separation technique based on the energy ratio of the captured signals was developed,considering noise *** results revealed that the new technique allows an adequate separation,even when three sources act simultaneously.

AIM: To determine the plasmatic iron content and evaluate the oxidative stress(OS) markers in subjects receiving blood ***: Thirty-nine individuals with unspecified anemia receiving blood transfusions and 15 healthy subjects were included in the study. Anemic subjects were divided into three subgrou P:(1) those that received up to five blood transfusions(n = 14);(2) those that received from five to ten transfusions(n = 11); and(3) those that received more than ten transfusions(n = 14). Blood samples were collected by venous arm puncture and stored in tubes containing heparin. The plasma and cells were separated by centrifugation and subsequently used for analyses. Statistical analyses were performed using Kruskal-Wallis analysis of variance followed by Dunn's multiple comparison tests when ***: The eletrophoretic hemoglobin profiles of the subjects included in this study indicated that no patients pr.sen.ed with hemoglobinopathy. Labile plasmatic iron, ferritin, protein carbonyl, thiobarbituric acidreactive substances(TBArS) and dichlorofluorescein diacetate oxidation were significantly higher(P ereas total thiol levels were significantly lower(P ransfused subjects compared to controls. Additionally, the activity of catalase, superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase were significantly lower in the transfused subjects(P enzyme activities and total thiol levels were positively correlated(P egatively correlated with the levels of protein carbonyl and TBArS(P rast, protein carbonyl and TBArS were positively correlated(P ether, these data confirm the involvement of OS in patients following therapy with repeated blood ***: Our data reveal that changes in OS markers are correlated with levels of labile plasmatic iron and ferritin and the number of transfusions.

To investigate the effects of moderate and intense exercise (Me,Ie) and lycopene (L) supplementation on oxidative stress biomarkers in patients with CAD. rehabilitation ***-two male volunteers with CAD (55.65 ? 2.27 years, 77.27 ? 3.95 kg, 171.9 ? 2.80 cm) were divided into four groups;Me-Placebo (n = 7), Me + L (n = 8), Ie-Placebo (n = 8) and Ie-L (n = 9). Blood samples (12 mL) were collected before supplementation (one cereal bars – 15 mg of syn-thetic lycopene) and exercise (45 min plus 15 min of stretching, 3/wk) and after five weeks of supplementation and 72 h after exercise. Nitrite/nitrate concentrations (NOx), lipoperoxidation (TBArS levels), protein carbonylation (PC) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activity were assessed in plasma. NOx decreased significantly in the Me-P, Ie-P and Me-L groups at 72 h after exercise and increased in the Ie-L 72 h after the last exercise session. The Ie-L group demonstrated decreased TBArS at 72 h after the last exercise session. The level of PC increased only in eI-P at 72 h after the last exercise session, while only the eI-L group pr.sen.ed a reduction. SOD increased signifi-cantly in both placebo groups 72 h after the last exercise session and decreased in the Me-L group 72 h after in rela-tion to placebo groups. CAT increased in Me-P, Ie-P and Ie-L groups only at 72 h after the last exercise session. The lycopene supplementation attenuates some markers of oxidative stress associated with Ie Lycopene also had dissimilar effects on some markers of oxidative stress in subjects undertaking Me versus Ie.
