The social and environmental demands in Brazilian cities are usually neglected by the local municipal powers due to a heavy bias toward speculative capital. The main issue is a public administration that benefits the private initiative instead of popular and environmental values and needs. Despite federal efforts at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21 st century, water resources and urban reform policies are not able to ensure a connection between these two issues in the urban environment. Aiming at showing a new approach of citizenship and environmental rights in a developing country, Bauru, a Brazilian city located in the state of S^o Paulo, was used as a study case. In this scenario, the research is based on the action research method, in which a dynamic profile of the researchers was adopted in order to solidify environmental and social issues in the urban planning process. This article shows the advantages in using the river basin as an urban planning territory in the city master plan, and providing continuous technique support to the citizen, through the role played by the researcher-planner between government and population, as a way to possibly reach social and environmental interests. The territorial perception of the river basin by citizens brings effective environmental and social results.

通过室内实验研究了疏水化聚乙二醇(PEG)/K^(+)体系抑制页岩水化的作用机理。通过岩屑热滚分散实验、膨润土性能测试和接触角测量,发现抑制剂体系的抑制能力随着接触角的增加和PEG浓度的增加而增强。改进岩屑热滚分散实验表明抑制剂并未通过热活化钻井液乳化机理(TAME)机制发生作用。通过吸附量、傅立叶变换红外光谱(FT-IR)、X射线衍射(XRD)图谱和热重分析(TGA)研究了PEG/K^(+)体系与黏土样品的相互作用,吸附等温线分析表明K^(+)的存在增加了PEG对黏土表面的亲和力。FT-IR光谱、热重和微商热重分析证明,PEG的吸附可以减少黏土的含水率,即抑制性良好;XRD图谱分析K^(+)的存在使PEG的插层仅为一层,且连接在PEG链上的疏水尾增强了抑制水化的能力。最后采用添加PEG/K^(+)的水基钻井液进行了岩屑热滚分散实验,验证了PEG/K^(+)体系的抑制性能。

This study aimed to observe the response of 32 rice accessions to attack of sugarcane borer (Diatraea saccharalis Fabr., 1794). Twenty larvae were placed on the leaf sheaths of rice plants. At 30 days after infestation, the rice plants were cut at ground level and taken to the laboratory to analyse the signs of borer attack, external and internal diameter of the stem and weight of surviving larvae. The results of the morphological traits of the rice plant, response of the plant to insect attack and development of the sugarcane borer larvae indicated a genotypic variation. The accessions that most favored larval survivals were IRAT 124 and MEARIN. Larvae with highest weight (0.0643 g) were found in IAPAR L 99-98 and the largest internal diameters of the rice stem (5.65 mm) were found in LAC 12. These accessions (IRAT 124, MEARIN, IAPAR L 99-98 and LAC 12) remained morphologically grouped with IAC 47, cultivar susceptible to sugarcane borer. The most tolerant materials based on the ability to produce new tillers after larval infestation were BR IRGA 417 and MTU 15. The results of this study indicate that all the morphological traits were able to separate the accessions of rice into different groups in relation to resistance to the sugarcane borer D. saccharalis. These materials can be used as donor sources in pre-breeding for genetic resistance to sugarcane borers.

In this paper, we investigate the properties of an alternative material for use in marine engineering, namely a rigid and light sandwich-structured composite made of expanded polystyrene and fiberglass. Not only does this material have an improved section modulus, but it is also inexpensive, light, easy to manipulate, and commercially available in various sizes. Using a computer program based on the finite element method, we calculated the hogging and sagging stresses and strains acting on a prismatic boat model composed of this material, and determined the minimum sizes and maximum permissible stresses to avoid deformation. Finally, we calculated the structural weight of the resulting vessel for comparison with another structure of comparable dimensions constructed from the commonly used core material Divinycell.

Cardiac Myeloperoxidase Activity Is Elevated in Hypertensive Pregnant Rats

Myeloperoxidase（MPO） is released from activated neutrophils. The inflammation in preeclampsia was found to be associated with endothelial dysfunction. We hypothesized that cardiac and circulating MPO levels are elevated in hypertensive pregnancy. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate were measured on pregnancy days 14, 16, 18 and 20 in normal pregnant and hypertensive pregnant rats. Left and right ventricle weights, the number of viable fetuses, litter size, fetal and placenta weights were recorded on gestational day 21. Circulating and cardiac MPO activities, soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1（sFlt-1） and vascular endothelial growth factor（VEGF） and nitric oxide（NO） were detected. The results showed increases in cardiac（left, but not right ventricle） and circulating MPO activities, and concomitantly lower number of viable fetuses, litter size, and fetal and placenta weights, and decreases in NO in hypertensive pregnant rats. Also, the increases in circulating sFlt-1 and VEGF were found in hypertensive pregnant group. In conclusion, maternal and fetal detrimental changes along with increases in circulating sFlt-1 and VEGF in hypertensive pregnancy may be associated with increases in cardiac and circulating MPO activities, confirming the causative role of inflammatory response in preeclampsia.

本研究利用生物信息学方法,总结了叶绿素/细菌叶绿素生物合成途径中的四个末端酶,有利用更好地理解叶绿素生物合成途径的反应机制。叶绿素(Chl)/细菌叶绿素(Bchl)的生物合成对于光合作用的发生是必要的,其中四种不同的酶催化最后的化学反应步骤,以合成叶绿素/细菌叶绿素,它们是:依赖光的原叶绿素酸酯(Pchlide)氧化还原酶(LPOR:EC 1.***.1.33),不依赖光的原叶绿素酸酯氧化还原酶(DPOR:EC 1.***.7.7),负责减少C17=C18双D形环的四吡咯原叶绿素酸酯形成叶绿素酸酯。叶绿素酸酯氧化还原酶(COR:EC 1.***.99.15)负责B环中C7=C8双键的还原。二乙烯基还原酶(DVR:EC 1.***.1.75)负责8乙烯基集团的还原。本研究通过这些酶的序列比对、系统发育和分子进化分析,以及与其结构交互作用的分析,找到他们的相似之处。研究利用MEGA 6软件完成,明确了DVR,DPOR和COR以及固氮酶具有非常高的相似度,具有共同的特征,LPOR与它们具有较小的相似度,并且,序列比对结果显示了新的保守区域。

Small river basin and estuarine sediment fluxes:The magnitude necessary for coastal dispersion and siltation effects on a coral reef

Increasing continental suspended sediment influx to coral reefs is an example of land-sea coupling that requires the identification of sources,magnitude of transport,and controlling *** Brazil,a small coastal basin(Macae River) was identified as a source of suspended sediment to a coral reef on the coast of Cape Armacao dos *** suspended sediment loads were measured at the basin as were fluxes within the estuary and towards the coast during eight tidal *** load and yield from this basin were typical of small coastal basins,showing high to moderate slopes and transitional land ***,the magnitude of the river loads was lower than the sediment transport within the estuary,indicating that the estuary amplifies river fluxes and sustains the transference of suspended sediment alongshore to the coral ***,the estuary displays both suspended particle retention and export capacity and,therefore,fluxes to the coast and the coral reef occur as episodic events.

Compounds with dual action on cyclic adenosine monophosphate （cAMP） and cyclic guanosine monophosphate （cGMP） may be a treatment option for erectile dysfunction, as they not only promote penile erection but also prevent the upregulation of phosphodiesterase-5. In this study, we examined the possible relaxant effect and mechanism of 17-nor-subincanadine E （SEC, 0.2-200 pmol I^-1）, a plant-derived alkaloid, in rabbit corpus cavernosum （RbCC） strips that had been precontracted by exposure to phenylephrine （10 pmol I^- 1） or a high concentration of K＋（60 mmol I^- 1） in vitro. In addition to SEC＇s effect on cAMP and cGMP levels, electrical field stimulation （EFS） in phenylephrine-precontracted RbCC and calcium chloride （1-100 mmol I^-1） evoked responses in depolarized RbCC were analysed. SEC relaxed the phenylephrine-precontracted RbCCs in a concentration-dependent manner. Atropine, guanethidine and N-co-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester （L-NAME） did not have any effect on the relaxation of RBCCs. When 1H-1,2,4oxadiazole[4,3-a] quinoxalin-1-one （ODQ） was added, it effectively blocked the relaxant response of SEC. Although SEC enhanced the maximal relaxation produced by sodium nitroprusside （SNP） and forskolin in phenylephrine-precontracted cavernosal smooth muscle, it caused a decrease in the maximal contractile response induced by calcium chloride in depolarized RbCCs. The relaxant effect of SEC was paralleled by an increase in the tissue levels of the Cyclic nucleotides cAMP and cGMP. We conclude that SEC promotes the relaxation of RbCC, possibly favouring cAMP and cGMP accumulation and calcium blockade. This novel mechanism could be useful for patients who do not benefit from phosphodiesterase inhibitors and for those with endothelial and nitrergic dysfunction, such as patients with diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidaemias.
