Urban Heat Island Investigations in Arctic Cities of Northwestern Russia

Urban microclimate peculiarities in two Arctic cities in northwestern Russia--Kirovsk （67.62°N, 33.67°E） and Apatity （67.57°N, 33.38°E）-were investigated by using mobile temperature records. The experiment was carried out in and around Apatity and Kirovsk in February 2014 and December 2016. The DS 18B20 digital thermometer was in- stalled on the roof of a car （height： approximately 1.2 m） to measure and record temperature variations automatically. In addition to the digital thermometer, the car was also equipped with an onboard global positioning system, allow- ing every temperature measurement to be referenced with an altitude and a latitude/longitude position. The possibility of urban heat island formation in these polar cities, above the Arctic Circle, was studied. Our analysis indicated that on 11 February 2014, the temperature varied in accordance with the background environmental lapse rate （-0.0045℃ m^-1）, and nearly corresponded to it （-0.0165℃ m^-1） on 12 February 2014. On 6 December 2016, a strong local temperature inversion with a positive value of 0.032℃ m^-1 was detected, seemingly caused by the formation of a cold air pool in the valley near Kirovsk. It was found that the temperature variations within and outside these cities are strongly influenced by local topographic effects and the physical conditions of the atmospheric boundary layer.

Non-invasive brain current stimulation（NIBS） is a promising and versatile tool for inducing neuroplasticity,protection and functional rehabilitation of damaged neuronal *** is technically simple,requires no surgery,and has significant beneficial ***,there are various technical approaches for NIBS which influence neuronal networks in significantly different *** direct current stimulation（t DCS）,alternating current stimulation（ACS） and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation（r TMS） all have been applied to modulate brain activity in animal experiments under normal and pathological *** clinical trials have shown that t DCS,r TMS and ACS induce significant behavioural effects and can – depending on the parameters chosen – enhance or decrease brain excitability and influence performance and learning as well as rehabilitation and protective *** diverse phaenomena and partially opposing effects of NIBS are not yet fully understood and mechanisms of action need to be explored further in order to select appropriate parameters for a given task,such as current type and strength,timing,distribution of current densities and electrode *** this review,we will discuss the various parameters which need to be considered when designing a NIBS protocol and will put them into context with the envisaged applications in experimental neurobiology and medicine such as vision restoration,motor rehabilitation and cognitive enhancement.

Magnetic cycles of Sun-like stars with different levels of coronal and chromospheric activity——comparison with the Sun

The atmospheric activity of the Sun and Sun-like stars is analyzed involving observations from the HK-project at the Mount Wilson Observatory, the California and Carnegie Planet Search Program at the Keck and Lick Observatories and the Magellan Planet Search Program at the Las Campanas Observatory. We show that for stars of E g and K spectral classes, the cyclic activity, similar to the 11-yr solar cycle, is different： it becomes more prominent in K-stars. Comparative study of Sun-like stars with different levels of chromospheric and coronal activity confirms that the Sun belongs to stars with a low level of chromospheric activity and stands apart among these stars by its minimum level of coronal radiation and minimum level of variations in photospheric flux.

We prove the boundedness from Lp（T2） to itself, 1 〈 p 〈∞, of highly oscillatory singular integrals Sf（x, y） presenting singularities of the kind of the double Hilbert transform on a non-rectangular domain of integration, roughly speaking, defined by ｜y′｜〉｜x′｜, and presenting phases λ（Ax ＋ By） with 0≤ A, B ≤ 1 and λ≥ 0. The norms of these oscillatory singular integrals are proved to be independent of all parameters A1 B and A involved. Our method extends to a more general family of phases. These results are relevant to problems of almost everywhere convergence of double Fourier and Walsh series.

Deciphering the presence of axial-planar veins in tectonites

Veins and dikes are often oriented subparallel to the axial surfaces of folds in the adjacent layered or foliated *** implies an awkward situation,since veins would lay in planes close-to-parallel to the maximum stretching axis.A series of geometric models have been conceived in order to gain insight into the possible mechanisms for their *** models are based on the analysis of a varied selection of field structures and on the review of similar structures in the existing literature.A first categorization consists on distinguishing between axial-planar veins achieved by either progressive or polyphase *** models of axial-planar veins resulting from progressive deformation are described and discussed:(1) fold-related veins associated with the standard folding mechanisms,(2) fracture arrays localized along the short limbs of folds(asymmetric fold-related veins),(3) folds associated with rotation of extension veins(vein-related folds),(4) high strain and transposition of early veins,and(5) high strain and late veins parallel to axial planar foliations(axial planar foliation-related veins).The axial planar geometry is achieved through variable amounts of progressive rotational strain,except in model 5,in which the co-planarity is acquired at the time of vein *** possibility for axial-planar veins to have developed in two distinct phases in the context of polyphase or polyorogenic tectonics has also been explored and *** study contributes to a better understanding of the intriguing interplays between deformation,metamorphic and magmatic processes in orogenic belts.

Plant hormesis and Shelford’s tolerance law curve

Characterization and catalytic behavior of EDTA modified silica nanosprings (NS)-supported cobalt catalyst for Fischer-Tropsch CO-hydrogenation

The effect of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid(EDTA) modification on the physico-chemical properties and catalytic performance of silica nanosprings(NS) supported cobalt(Co) catalyst was investigated in the conversion of syngas(H^(2+) CO) to hydrocarbons by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis(FTS). The unmodified Co/NS and modified Co/NS-EDTA catalysts were synthesized via an impregnation method. The prepared Co/NS and Co/NS-EDTA catalysts were characterized before the FTS reaction by BET surface area,X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),temperature programmed reduction(TPR),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),differential thermal analysis(DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis(TgA) in order to find correlations between physico-chemical properties of catalysts and catalytic performance. FTS was carried out in a quartz fixedbed microreactor(H_2/CO of 2 ∶1,230 ℃ and atmospheric pressure) and the products trapped and analyzed by gC-TCD and gC-MS to determine CO conversion and reaction selectivity. The experimental results indicated that the modified Co/NS-EDTA catalyst displayed a more-dispersed phase of Co_3O_4 nanoparticles(10.9%) and the Co_3O_4 average crystallite size was about 12.4 nm. The EDTA modified catalyst showed relatively higher CO conversion(70.3%) and selectivity toward C_(6-18)(JP-8,Jet A and diesel) than the Co/NS catalyst(C_(6-14))(JP-4).

BACKgROUND Orthopedic surgery in children with cerebral palsy(CP)aims to improve function and prevent *** child’s condition in CP is unique and many covariables influence surgical decision-making including a patient's age and their functional *** is known about the frequency of different types of orthopedic surgery in children with CP who have varied functional levels,particularly in countries from Latin *** To assess the type of orthopedic surgical procedures in relation to age and gross motor function in children with *** This retrospective study included all children with CP(n=245)treated with elective orthopedic surgery at a Uruguayan university hospital between October 2010 and May 2016 identified from a surgical *** children(7%)were lost to follow-up due to missing medical ***,gross motor function classification(gMFCS),and orthopedic surgeries were obtained from the medical records of 227 ***-squared tests and analysis of variance were used to assess the frequency of surgery,accounting for gMFCS *** age for soft tissue vs bone surgery was compared with the independent samples *** A total of 711 surgical procedures were performed between 1998 and *** average,children had 3.1 surgical procedures and the mean age at first surgery was 8.0 *** were no significant differences in age at first surgery among gMFCS levels(P=0.47).The most common procedures were lower leg soft tissue surgery(n=189,27%),hip tenotomy(n=135,19%),and hamstring tenotomy(n=104,14%).For children with gMFCS level Ⅰ,the mean number of surgeries per child[1.8(range 1-9)]differed significantly at PgMFCS levels Ⅱ[3.2(1-12)],Ⅲ[3.2(1-8)],Ⅳ[3.3(1-13)],and Ⅴ[3.6(1-11)].Within Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ,and Ⅴ,there was no significant difference in mean number of surgeries per child when comparing across the *** proportion of soft tissue surgery vs bone surgery was higher in gMFCS levels Ⅰ-Ⅲ
