Background: Probable benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, spontane.usly resolved (pBPPVsr), is a variant of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) in which there is no observable nystagmus and no vertigo with any positional mane.ver. Objectives: To calculate the incidence pBPPVsr, compare the characteristics of the patients with pBPPVsr and BPPV not spontane.usly resolved and describe the spontane.us resolution in the natural course of BPPV. Methods: Multicenter prospective descriptive study. During a one.year period, all patients with suspected BPPV that presented to the ne.rotology Units of five participating centers were recruited. The incidence of pBPPVsr was calculated as a percentage of the total number of patients with BPPV. The prevalence of se.e.al variables was compared between pBPPVsr and BPPV not spontane.usly resolved. The timing of spontane.us resolution was estimated using Kaplan-Meier curves. Results: 457 patients met the inclusion criteria. The incidence of pBPPVsr was 33.5%. It was significantly higher in males, in patients with normal bone.mass and in patients who were not taking sulpiride. A rate of 18% of spontane.us resolution after the first month and 51% after the first year was found. This percentage did not change in a significant way after this moment. The curves for males, patients under 50 and patients with normal blood pressure decreased significantly faster. Conclusions: In our serie, BPPV spontane.usly resolved in half of the patients with BPPV during the first year. This seemed to occur more commonly in males and could have been hindered by sulpiride intake, osteoporosis, advanced age and high blood pressure.

Inflammatory status in human hepatic cirrhosis

This review focuses on ne. findings about the inflammatory status involved in the development of human liver cirrhosis induced by the two main causes, hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection and chronic alcohol abuse, avoiding results obtaine. from animal models. When liver is faced to a persistent and/or intense local damage the maintaine. inflammatory response gives rise to a progressive replacement of normal hepatic tissue by non-functional fibrotic scar. The imbalance between tissue rege.e.ation and fibrosis will determine.the outcome toward health recovery or hepatic cirrhosis. In all cases progression toward liver cirrhosis is caused by a dysregulation of mechanisms that govern the balance between activation/homeostasis of the immune.system. Detecting differences between the inflammatory status in HCV-induced vs alcoholinduced cirrhosis could be useful to identify specific targets for preventive and therapeutic intervention in each case. Thus, although survival of patients with alcoholic cirrhosis seems to be similar to that of patients with HCV-related cirrhosis(HCV-C), the.e.are important differences in the altered cellular and molecular mechanisms implicated in the progression toward human liver cirrhosis. The predominant features of HCV-C are more related with those that allow viral evasion of the immune.defenses, especially although not exclusively, inhibition of interferons secretion, natural killer cells activation and T cell-mediated cytotoxicity. On the contrary, the inflammatory status of alcohol-induced cirrhosis is determine. by the combine. effect of direct hepatotoxicity of ethanol metabolites and increases of the intestinal permeability, allowing bacteria and bacterial products translocation, into the portal circulation, mesenteric lymph nodes and peritone.l cavity. A microstructural analysis was performed to determine.the presence of oxygen in a wire rod section of AISI 1008 steel with a surface mechanical failure produced during wire *** failure zone.was analyzed by comparison using three different attack reagents:alkaline.sodium chromate(ASC),ASC with hydrogen peroxide and amyl alcohol,and a solution of nitric acid in ethyl *** reagents we.e.applied in samples in the failure zone.showing different types of zone. in regions with internal and superficial defects such as carbides,pores,cracks,deformation,and detachment zone.,indicating the possible presence of *** areas identified were observed by means of an optical microscope and were correlated with the content of elements that were present in the region using a scanning electron microscope and a scattered X-ray ene.gy spectrometer,which determine. that the areas identified by chromate sodium correspond to regions with a high concentration of oxygen and slag-forming elements such as silicon,aluminum,and iron;this is associated with the presence of oxygen in the oxide *** was also observed that the ASC and the modified ASC solution with hydrogen peroxide and amyl alcohol could identify areas with a high presence of oxides,while the nitric acid solution only identified the steel *** modified ASC solution is an alternative to identify the presence of chemical variants of oxygen because the conventional formulation is unstable and has a too short shelf life,and therefore,its application must be carried out at the time of preparation.

Angiopoietin-2/angiopoietin-1 as non-invasive biomarker of cirrhosis in chronic hepatitis C

AIM To evaluate the efficacy of peripheral blood concentrations of angiopoietins(Ang) as cirrhosis biomarkers of chronic hepatitis C(CHC).MeTHODS Ang1 and Ang2 serum levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(eLISA) in samples from 179 cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic CHC patients, classified according to the MeTAVIR *** were compared by non-parametric MannWhitne. U test. Subsequently, the association of peripheral concentrations of angiopoietins with the stage of fibrosis was analyzed using Spearman correlation test. Finally, the accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of circulating angiopoietins for cirrhosis diagnosis were determine. by the study of the respective area under the curve of receiver operator characteristics(AUC-ROC).ReSULTS Peripheral blood concentrations of Ang1 and Ang2 in CHC patients were significantly related to fibrosis. While Ang1 was decreased in cirrhotic subjects compared to non-cirrhotic(P eased as CHC progressed to the end stage of liver disease(P equently, Ang2/Ang1 ratio was notably amplified and significantly correlated with fibrosis(P erestingly, the individual performance of each angiopoietin for the diagnosis of cirrhosis reached notable AUC-ROC values(above 0.7, both), but the Ang2/Ang1 ratio was much better(AUC-ROC = 0.810) and displayed outstanding values of sensitivity(71%), specificity(84%) and accuracy(82.1%) at the optimal cut-off(10.33). Furthermore, Ang2/Ang1 ratio improved the performance of many other previously described biomarkers or scores of liver cirrhosis in *** Ang2/Ang1 ratio might constitute a useful tool for monitoring the progression of chronic liver disease towards cirrhosis and play an important role as therapeutic target.

In this paper, a system of fractional differential equations that model the synchronized biolumine.cence behavior of a set of fireflies put on two spatial arrangements is presented; the alternative representation of these equations contains fractional operators of IAouvillc-Caputo type. The objective of the model is to qualitatively recover synchronization and show that it is persistent. It is shown that the effort made by each firefly glow changes with respect to the number of male competitors and the distance between them. The conditions on biological parameters are interpreted.

Product Containing “Skin Calm Complex” Improves Barrier effect <i>in Vitro</i>

epidermal Barrier integrity is deteriorated in many skin conditions, including Atopic Dermatitis, and could be responsible for many of the associated clinical symptoms. The aim of this study was to determine.the effect of RePAVAR ATOPIC SKIN BODY CReAM eXTReMe, product containing “SKIN CALM COMPLeX” on barrier epidermis structure. Morphologic and structural evaluations were conducted on reconstructed human epidermis, by qualitative (hematoxylin/eosin- and immune.staining) and quantitative (MTT assay) techniques. Immature (Age Day 10) and mature (Day 17) sample tissues were treated with the product for 24 hours or 7 days, respectively. Morphological and quantitative analysis revealed an increase in the thickne.s of the epidermis in both cases after the treatment. The study by immunostaining showed that Product-treated tissues presented excellent localization of: 1) e-cadherin in keratinocytes of the spinous layer;2) Filaggrin and Loricrin, in the granular layer;and 3) increased expression of Involucrin and Keratin 10 in suprabasal layers and 4) e.e.ated expression of Keratin 5 in the basal layer of the epidermis. The product RePAVAR ATOPIC SKIN BODY CReAM eXTReMe increases the epithelial rege.e.ation and differentiation determine. by cell proliferation and the expression and localization of specific proteins, improving the epidermal barrier effect.

Dystrophin is a membrane.associated protein responsible for structural stability of the sarcolem-ma in cardiac myocytes and is very sensitive to ischemic *** goal of our study was to determine.if ischemic preconditioning could prevent dystrophin breakdown through inhibition of matrix metalloprotein-ase-2(MMP-2)*** rabbit hearts were subjected to global ischemia with or without reperfusion in order to evaluate if dystrophin is preserved by ischemic preconditioning through MMP-2 *** preconditioning significantly reduced the infarct size induced by 30 min of ischemia and 180 min of ***,it also diminished dystrophin proteolysis and attenuated MMP-2 activity after 30 min ***,our study shows a novel protective role of ischemic preconditioning as a mechanism of preservation of plasma membrane.integrity by inhibiting MMP-2 activation.

Background:The dynamics and structure of many bird communities are changing due to the global warming and changes in the land use and *** ebro Valley constitutes one.of the chief wintering areas for se.e.al passerine.species in Iberia,and the reed beds spread across this Valley concentrate huge numbers of birds that use them to roost,while the surrounding agricultural areas serve as main foraging *** aims of this work are(1)to quantify how variable a non-breeding passerine.bird community associated to a reed bed area in the ebro Valley is,and,(2)to test for the effect of weather on possible annual fluctuations in species’proportions at a regional/local ***:We used for that ringing data collected at Badina de escudera lagoon(Navarra)over a 12-year ***:Though,overall,the assemblage did not vary strongly among years(most similarity values were>0.8),we still found a significant line.r effect of year on the proportion of captures of Reed Buntings(emberiza schoeniclus),i.e.,the dominant species detected in our passerine.*** increasing loss of weight of Reed Buntings in the community was due to a progressive decrease in its ***:The structure and diversity of passerine.community in Badina escudera was not influenced by meteorological conditions at a local scale,suggesting that local weather would not have an impact on numbers of Reed Buntings in winter.

Introduction: The health and assistance crisis generated by the SARS-CoV2 pandemic has been a serious health problem and a major disruption to the general population, specifically to the most vulnerable groups as cancer patients. This situation is forcing health professionals to face and take on major challenges to maintain the necessary care. Aim: The main objective of this study is to maintain specialized psychological care for oncology patients, and in addition, to describe the principal psychological difficulties of our series of cases. Methods: Before the alarm state in Spain, the therapy was changed from face-to-face to telephone attendance and an e-mail account was opened for specific consultations in which a psycho-oncologist was present in GenesisCare Spain. The psychological interventions carried out during this time have had two characteristics: 1) Cognitive-behavioral therapeutic framework 2) Targeted and specific interventions on issues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: From March 10 to April 30 (8 weeks), patients and families have been attended to by 2.5 senior psycho-oncologists. A total of 369 psychological services have been attended in Spain in 142 patients. The number of services per patient has ranged from 1 to 4. The median of the long consultation has been 45 minutes.
