The COvID-19 pandemic has posed enormous challenges for existing diagnostic tools to detect and monitor ***,there is a need to develop point-of-care(POC)devices to perform fast,accurate,and accessible diagnostic methods to detect infections and monitor immune *** most amenable to miniaturization and suitable for POC applications are biosensors based on electrochemical *** have developed an impedimetric immunosensor based on an interdigitated microelectrode array(IMA)to detect and monitor SARS-Cov-2 antibodies in human *** chemistry was applied to functionalize and covalently immobilize the spike protein(S-protein)of SARS-Cov-2 on the surface of the IMA to serve as the recognition layer and specifically bind anti-spike *** bound to the S-proteins in the recognition layer result in an increase in capacitance and a consequent change in the impedance of the *** impedimetric immunosensor is label-free and uses non-Faradaic impedance with low nonperturbing AC voltage for *** sensitivity of a capacitive immunosensor can be enhanced by simply tuning the ionic strength of the sample *** device exhibits an LOD of 0.4 BAU/ml,as determined from the standard curve using WHO IS for anti-SARS-Cov-2 immunoglobulins;this LOD is similar to the corresponding LODs reported for all validated and established commercial assays,which range from 0.41 to 4.81 BAU/*** proof-of-concept biosensor has been demonstrated to detect anti-spike antibodies in sera from patients infected with COvID-19 within 1 h.

Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane (DDT) and Endosulfan in Sediments of Sabancuy Lagoon, Campeche, Mexico

DDT and Endosulfan are persistent organic compounds which have been prohibited and their use has been limited in agricultural activities due to their toxicity, persistence and bioaccumulation potential. The use of DDT in fumigation campaigns against endemic diseases transmitted by vectors of malaria and dengue was prohibited in carmen Island, Campeche, Mexico since 1995. In the surroundings of Sabancuy Lagoon, many and diverse agricultural activities are carried out and it is a common practice to use organ-chlorine pesticides as endosulfan. In order to know the levels of these compounds in this area, a sediment sampling campaign was carried out in ten sampling points randomly located within the Sabancuy Lagoon, Campeche and considering one reference sampling point located 2 km away from Sabancuy Lagoon within the Mexican Gulf. Three metabolites were identified in sediments samples belonging to DDT’s family: (4,4’-DDD;4,4’-DDE;4,4’- DDT) and Endosulfan’s family (Endosulfan I, Endosulfan II y Endosulfan sulfate). Higher concentrations in DDT’s family were found for 4,4’-DDD, followed by 4,4’-DDE and 4,4’-DDT. Endosulfan’s family, showed the following order for concentrations: Endosulfan II > Endosulfan I > Endosulfan sulfate. Mean concentration for S-DDT and S-Endosulfan in Sabancuy Lagoon sediments was twice higher than those found in other studies carried out in Términos Lagoon, Campeche, Mexico in 2002.

Development and validation of a Method to Quantify Midazolam in a New Oral Formulation for Pediatric Use

Aim: To develop an HPLC method to quantify midazolam in a new oral formulation for pediatric use. Methods: The stability of the new formulation was evaluated at different storage conditions and a preliminary assay of relative bioavailability was carried out in healthy volunteers. Results: The method of quantification was linear in the range of 5 to 60 μg·mL-1. The midazolam amount in the formulation remained stable for 90 days at 4 and 40℃ (in the dark) while at 25℃ was stable only for 14 days (exposed to light). Discussion: The relative bioavailability assay suggests that our preparation of midazolam in white chocolate reaches plasma levels similar to those induced by the apple juice formulation. Conclusion: This new white chocolate formulation masks the unpleasing flavour and has a more attractive presentation to the paediatric patient, which may be useful for children sedation and to ease its management by health carers.

Cutaneous Melanoma:A Single Center Experience in Brazil

The aim is to evaluate the profile of cutaneous melanoma in rural and urban areas of the State of Espírito Santo and compare the results between *** information collected included gender and age at diagnosis,city of residence,tumor morphology,anatomic site,histological subtype,level of invasion,tumor thickness and staging.A retrospective observational study was conducted,using the Pathology Department’s database of Hospital Universitário Cassiano Antonio de Moraes(HUCAM).Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Statistics.A total of 258 histopathological reports of Cutaneous Melanomas were identified between 2003 and *** skin cancer was more common among women,in the age group from 50 to 79 *** majority of lesions was localized in the malar region of the face,usually classified as in situ or with superficial invasion and presented Breslow’s thickness less than 1 *** the diagnosis,the male population was older and had more aggressive melanomas with higher rates of Clark’s levels Iv and v and Breslow’s thickness when compared to the female *** was a great concentration of patients in the central mesoregion(173 cases—67.06%),probably because this is the most populous regional area of Espírito *** prevalence of melanoma between 2003-2016 was higher in the rural area(21.52 cases/100,000 habitants)when compared to the urban area(4.15 cases/100,000 habitants).

Interest in renewable energy sources has increased in recent years due to environmental concerns about global warming and air pollution,reduced costs and improved efficiency of *** the European Union（EU）energy directive,biomass is a suitable renewable *** aim of this study was to experimentally quantify and characterize the emission of particulate matter（PM（2.5））resulting from the combustion of two biomass fuels（chipped residual biomass from pine and eucalypt）,in a pilot-scale bubbling fluidized bed（BFB）combustor under distinct operating *** variables evaluated were the stoichiometry and,in the case of eucalypt,the leaching of the *** CO and PM（2.5）emission factors were lower when the stoichiometry used in the experiments was higher（0.33±0.1 g CO/kg and 16.8±1.0 mg PM（2.5）/kg,dry gases）.The treatment of the fuel by leaching before its combustion has shown to promote higher PM（2.5）emissions（55.2±2.5 mg/kg,as burned）.Organic and elemental carbon represented 3.1 to 30 wt.% of the particle mass,while carbonate（CO3^（2-））accounted for between 2.3 and 8.5 wt.%.The particulate mass was mainly composed of inorganic matter（71% to 86% of the PM（2.5）mass）.Compared to residential stoves,BFB combustion generated very high mass fractions of inorganic *** was the water soluble ion in higher concentration in the PM（2.5）emitted by the combustion of eucalypt,while calcium was the dominant water soluble ion in the case of pine.

Background: Septic open abdomens occur in trauma, burn and surgery. Currently, multiple concentrations of hypochlorous acid solutions have effectively decreased the microbiotic burden in wounds. We hypothesized that vashe?, a neutral hypochlorous acid solution (v-HOCL), would be safe as an intraperitoneal irrigation or washout disinfectant for septic open abdomens utilizing negative pressure wound therapy. Methods: This is a retrospective observational review of patients who required delayed abdominal closures after exploratory laparotomies. Group A (n = 8) had cyclical v-HOCL irrigation to their open abdomens combining AbtheraTM and v.A.C. Dressing System for negative pressure wound therapy with irrigation (NPWT-i) and Group B (n = 9) had intra-abdominal v-HOCL washouts. Results: Fifty percent of both groups had either septic or hemorrhagic shock on admission. Compared to Group B, Group A patients were older (median 50 vs 37 years), and had a median hospitalization of 28 vs 8 days, 4 times as many operations, more acute renal failure and co-morbidities. No statistically significant differences were detected be-tween the two treatment methods with the v-HOCL delivery and removal. Conclusion: There were no episodes of electrolyte imbalance, hypotension, hypertension, anaphylaxis, hemorrhage, visceral injury or systemic toxicity. v-HOCL with/without NPWT-i irrigation was a safe modality and tolerated well in this study.

FTIR-ATR and Multivariate Calibration for the Prediction of Biodiesel Concentration in Petrodiesel Blends

The increasing use of petrodiesel-biodiesel fuel blends throughout the world requires fast, economic and efficient analytical techniques that can be used for the quality control of these fuels. In this work, we developed an analytical method for determining the concentration of African palm biodiesel in blends with petrodiesel;the method is based on infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR). To build a prediction model, nineteen petrodiesel-biodiesel blends were prepared in triplicate with biodiesel concentrations for 0%-100% by weight. The blends were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the spectral fingerprint data were used to build a prediction model through PLS regression. The optimal number of principal components (PCs), the standard error of calibration (SEC), the standard validation error (SEv), the correlation coefficient of calibration (r Cal) and the validation correlation coefficient (r val) were used to validate the predictive ability of the model. The results show that the model obtained in this work has a good ability for determining the concentration of African palm biodiesel in petrodiesel-biodiesel blends.

Transparency of Cosmic Radio Waves Caused by Seismic and volcano Activities

The generation of different waves in the atmosphere and ionosphere caused by seismic and volcano activities has changed the transparency for cosmic radio waves. It is possible to analyze two cases: the first case caused by the atmospheric acoustic wave, which creates a periodic structure of the electron density in the ionosphere. It is shown that the resonant passing of the radio waves takes place, when the length of the acoustic wave is equal to one or a few lengths of the radio wave. The second case produces the electron density decrease in the F-layer of the ionosphere resulting in an increase in the transparency of the ionosphere for cosmic radio waves. The review of these phenomena is provided in this work and both cases have been confirmed experimentally.
