Background Studies investigating health-related quality of life(HRQoL)in youth with perinatally acquired HIV(PHIV+)are *** study aimed to compare HRQoL of PHIV+to sociodemographic-matched youth not living with HIV(HIV-),Spanish general youth population,and to explore associations between sociodemographic variables,drug consumption,and *** PHIV+youth were randomly selected from CoRISpe database(Cohort of the Spanish Pediatric HIV Network).HRQoL was evaluated by *** Thirty-nine PHIV+youth(mean age:23.36 years,SD=3.83)and thirty-nine HIV-youth(mean age:22.97 years,SD=3.80)participated in this ***+obtained lower scores in SF-12 physical health subscale(PCS)than HIV-(P=0.001)and Spanish general youth population(P=0.006).PHIV+had lower scores on the mental health subscale(MCS)than the Spanish general youth population(P<0.001).PHIV+who were at school obtained better scores than those were not at ***+youth who had used cocaine and cannabis had lower scores in MCS(P=0.002).Conclusions There is a need for HRQoL management in the associated medical follow-up.

Contribution of the Open Access Modality to the Impact of Hybrid Journals Controlling by Field and Time Effects

Fish constitutes the main protein source for the Amazonian ***,the impact of different anthropogenic activities on trace element and metal accumulation in fish and their risks for human health at a regional scale remain largely *** we assessed exposure levels of 10 trace elements andmetals(Cr,Mn,Fe,Ni,Cu,Zn,As,Cd,Pb,and Hg)in 56 samples belonging to 11 different species of fish from the Brazilian *** studied the relationship between exposure levels,fish origin,and fish feeding habits,and assessed toxicological and carcinogenic risks for the Amazonian *** significant correlation was found between sampling site and exposure levels to the studied elements,but a significant difference was found between the accumulation of some metals and the position of the fish species in the food *** concentrations of Cr and Hg in fish flesh were found to exceed the Brazilian limits for human *** study shows that current fish consumption patterns can lead to estimated daily intakes of Hg,As and Cr that exceed the oral reference dose,thus posing a toxicological ***,carcinogenic risks may be expected due to the continued exposure to Cr and *** results of this study show that the consumption of wild caught fish in the Amazon region should be ***,continued monitoring of trace element and metal contamination in fish and on the health of the Amazonian population is recommended,particularly for riverine and indigenous communities.

BACKGROUND Rectal foreign bodies,though uncommon,present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges,particularly when they result from accidental *** non-specific symptoms and the potential for serious complications necessitate a thorough and methodical approach to diagnosis and *** case report aims to highlight the diagnostic complexities and management strategies involved in treating a patient with a rectal foreign body,focusing on the use of advanced imaging techniques and the importance of a multidisciplinary *** SUMmarY A 48-year-old male with a history of hypertension presented with a one-year history of post-defecation anorectal pain and mild post-defecation *** evaluation revealed hemodynamic stability and a tender,non-mucosal lesion in the anterior left rectal *** studies,including colonoscopy,magnetic resonance imaging,and endosonography,identified an erythematous,exophytic lesion and a perirectal abscess containing a foreign *** inter-vention revealed necrotic tissue and purulent material,along with two solid foreign body fragments(bone or plant matter).Postoperative follow-up showed the patient in good condition,and pathology confirmed the fragments as mature *** This case underscores the diagnostic challenges posed by rectal foreign bodies with nonspecific symptoms and no clear history of ingestion.

Background:Although 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinic acid(DMSA)scan is considered the gold standard for the diagnosis of acute pyelonephritis(AP),sometimes it produces false results in children with clinical features of *** are no studies on the comparison of the sensitivity of DMSA and concentrating capacity ***:Eighty-fi ve infants with AP of less than one year old were studied to evaluate whether they had real AP or *** were compared between infants with an abnormal(group A,n=64)and those with a normal DMSA scan(group B,n=21)respectively.A DDAVP test was performed for each ***:All the infants in both groups presented a high level of C-reactive protein and fever(≥38oC).There were no differences in clinical and analytical variables except C-reactive protein level in the two *** groups exhibited a low urinary osmolality(87.5%in the group A vs.85.7%in the group B).The patients with normal DMSA and decreased concentrating capacity have some renal parenchymal damage and not only a lower urinary *** the infants with an abnormal DMSA scan,33.9%showed renal scars after 6-12 *** infant with a normal DMSA scan showed *** biochemical variables in both groups of infants were not related to vesicoureteral refl ***:Infants with AP,normal DMSA scan and low concentrating capacity may be characterized by a localized infection in the medulla(medullonephritis)or by a false negative DMSA scan.

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest(OHCA)is one of the three leading causes of death in industrialized countries.[1,2]Some studies have described the impact of the first COVID-19 pandemic wave in terms of the number of cases and OHCA survival rates in various regions,[3-5]but few have addressed the relationship between the successive phases and how they affected OHCA.[6,7]The 14-d cumulative incidence peaked at more than 990 cases,with these rates remaining above 200 for an eight-month period between 15 march 2020 and 15 march 2021 in Madrid,Spain.

Hydropeaking,which refers to rising or falling discharges caused by the turning on or off of hydro-turbines to generate electricity,is a topic of growing interest due to its impact on fluvial *** date,most hydropeaking studies have focused on the impact of peak fluctuations on invertebrate and fish communities,but little attention has been paid to its impact on riverine plants and how functional traits may make them resistant to *** performed a review to assess how a set of 32 plant functional traits can be expressed in riverine plant species,and found evidence of how such expression affects their capacity to cope with common sources of hydropeaking disturbance(i.e.,inundation,fast water drawdown,and rapid water fluctuations linked to up-ramping and down-ramping hydropeaking operations).The information here presented can simplify the evaluation of impacts on riverine plant communities worldwide,as well as to detect suitable species to successfully restore rivers affected by hydropower production.

Effect of dichloromethylene diphosphonate on liver regeneration following thioacetamide-induced necrosis in rats

AIM: To study the effect of dichloromethylene diphos-phonate (DMDP), a selective Kupffer cell toxicant in reference to liver damage and postnecrotic liver regeneration in rats induced by sublethal dose thioacetamide (TA). METHODS: Rats, intravenously (iv ) pre-treated with a single dose of DMDP (10 mg/kg), were intraperitoneally (ip ) injected with TA 6.6 mmol/kg (per 500 mg/kg body weight). Hepatocytes were isolated from rats at 0, 24, 48 and 72 h following TA intoxication and blood and liver samples were obtained. To evaluate the mecha-nisms involved in the postnecrotic regenerative state, DNA distribution and ploidy time course were assayed in isolated hepatocytes. Circulating cytokine tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) was assayed in serum and determined by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction in liver extract. RESULTS: The effect of DMDP induced noticeable changes in postnecrotic regeneration, causing an increased percentage of hepatocytes in the cell cycle S phase. The increase at 24 h in S1 population in rats pretreated with DMDP + TA was significantly (P < 0.05) different compared with that of the TA group (18.07% vs 8.57%). Hepatocytes increased their proliferation as a result of these changes. Also, TNF-α expression and serum level were increased in rats pre-treated with DMDP. Thus, DMDP pre-treatment reduced TA-induced liver injury and accelerated postnecrotic liver regeneration. CONCLUSION: These results demonstrate that Kupffer cells are involved in TA-induced liver, as well as in post-necrotic proliferative liver states.

Exploring the Role of Immunohistochemistry as a Complementary Diagnostic Tool in Burundi

This study investigates the variability in cancer diagnosis across different tissues and organs, with a focus on the role of diagnostic methods such as Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining and immunohistochemistry (IHC). The predominance of female breast cancer (30%) aligns with global trends, underscoring the need for robust diagnostic protocols, particularly in developing regions. Other prevalent cancers, including skin, stomach, and cervix uteri, reflect a mix of environmental, genetic, and infectious factors. The underrepresentation of gallbladder and thyroid cancers (<1%) suggests potential underdiagnosis or lower prevalence. Age distribution data indicate peak cancer incidence in individuals aged 31 - 45 years, with gender-specific cancers like breast and cervical cancer predominantly affecting females (63.4%). The analysis also highlights significant diagnostic gaps, as 61.2% of cases did not undergo IHC testing due to resource constraints, leading to potential biases in cancer prevalence and diagnostic accuracy. The study emphasizes the complementary role of IHC in confirming ambiguous H&E findings, with strong alignment observed when both methods were used. However, the absence of IHC in many cases limits the robustness of conclusions, suggesting the need for increased access to IHC testing. The findings advocate for integrating IHC into routine diagnostics, expanding diagnostic capabilities, and improving sample sizes to ensure more reliable and comprehensive cancer data.

Yield models for predicting aboveground ectomycorrhizal fungal productivity in Pinus sylvestris and Pinus pinaster stands of northern Spain

Background: Predictive models shed light on aboveground fungal yield dynamics and can assist decision-making in forestry by integrating this valuable non-wood forest product into forest management planning. However, the currently existing models are based on rather local data and, thus, there is a lack of predictive tools to monitor mushroom yields on larger ***: This work presents the first empirical models for predicting the annual yields of ectomycorrhizal mushrooms and related ecosystem services in Pinus sylvestris and Pinus pinaster stands in northern Spain, using a long-term dataset suitable to account for the combined effect of meteorological conditions and stand *** were fitted for the following groups of fungi separately: all ectomycorrhizal mushrooms, edible mushrooms and marketed mushrooms. Our results show the influence of the weather variables(mainly precipitation) on mushroom yields as well as the relevance of the basal area of the forest stand that follows a right-skewed unimodal curve with maximum predicted yields at stand basal areas of 30–40 m2·***: These models are the first empirical models for predicting the annual yields of ectomycorrhizal mushrooms in Pinus sylvestris and Pinus pinaster stands in northern Spain, being of the highest resolution developed to date and enable predictions of mushrooms productivity by taking into account weather conditions and forests’ location, composition and structure.
