There is an increasing interest in restoring degraded forests,which occupy half of the forest *** the forms of restoration,passive restoration,which involves the elimination of degrading factors and the free evolution of natural dynamics by applying minimal or no management,is gaining *** dynamics is difficult to predict due to the influence of multiple interacting factors such as climatic and edaphic conditions,composition and abundance of species,and the successional character of these ***,we study the natural dynamics of a mixed forest located in central spain,which maintained an open forest structure,due to intensive use,until grazing and cutting were banned in the *** most frequent woody species in this forest are Fagus sylvatica,Quercus petraea,Quercus pyrenaica,ilex aquifolium,sorbus aucuparia,sorbus aria and prunus avium,with contrasting shade and drought *** species are common in temperate European deciduous forest and are found here near their southern distribution limit,except for *** order to analyze forest dynamics and composition,three inventories were carried out in 1994,2005 and *** results show that,despite the Mediterranean influence,the natural dynamics of this forest has been mainly determined by different levels of shade *** the abandonment of grazing and cutting,*** expanded rapidly due to its lower shade tolerance,whereas after canopy closure and forest densification,shade-tolerant species gained ground,particularly ***,despite its lower drought and late-frost *** the current dynamics continue,*** will overtake the rest of the species,which will be relegated to sites with shallow soils and steep ***,all the multi-centennial beech trees,which are undergoing a rapid mortality and decline process,will disappear.

investigation of the transformation of organic matter of carbonate deposits of the semiluksky-Mendymsky horizon under hydrothermal conditions

The paper presents the results of studies on the transformation of the organic matter of siliceous-clayey carbonate rocks of the semiluksko-Mendymsky horizon of the Romashkino oil field in a hydrothermal fluid for an hour(with a water-to-rock ratio of 33)at 340℃and 380℃and pressu res of 17 and 20 *** a result of hydrothermal treatment,at 340℃and 17 Mpa,based on nitrogen porosimetry and electron microscopy data,transformations of rock-forming minerals in the rock are *** lead to an increase in the volume and average diameter of mesopores in it and the formation of micropores,as well,which improve its filtration *** the same time,the amount of kerogen in the composition of the organic matter decreases and the yield of the petroleum hydrocarbon extract increases,in which,according to the sARA analysis,the content of asphaltenes increases and the content of resins,aromatic and saturated hydrocarbons *** the composition of aroatic hydrocarbons,the proportion of a lkyltri methyl benzenes and dibenzothiophenes increases,phenanthrene homologues appear,and in the composition of saturated hydrocarbons,the amount of iso-structure alkanes decreases relative to the content of linear *** the temperature and pressure of the hydrothermal fluid to 380℃and 20 Mpa increases the degree of kerogen conversion from 12.4%to 23.6%.At the same time,changes occurring in the component composition of petroleum hydrocarbon extracts remains similar to the experiments carried out at 340℃and 17 Mpa;the content of naphthalenes decreases,the content of dibenzothiophenes increases and C_(11)-C_(17),C_(19)-C_(22)alkyltrimethylbenzenes *** to iR spectroscopy,with increasing temperature and pressure of the hydrothermal fluid the intensity of the absorption bands of the aromatic ring,aliphatic fragments,and oxygen-containing groups increases in resins;the structural-group composition of asphaltenes changes little:aromaticity and the content of conde

Effect of proton irradiation on the optical properties of thermal control coating based on polystyrene with silica filler

This paper presents the results of studying the surface properties changes of a ther-moregulating coating based on polystyrene and silicaﬁller after proton irradiation with an en-ergy of 50 keV at afluence of 3�1015 cm�*** proton irradiation,the values of the contact angle of wetting with water increase by 3.5%and 14.9%for polystyrene and the coating,*** free surface energy(energy of the surface layer)of polystyrene and the coat-ings before and after proton irradiation was calculated using the Owens-Wendt-Rabel-Kaelble *** was a signiﬁcant increase in the polarity of the polystyrene surface(gp increased by a factor of 2.2)after proton *** the coating,an increase in gp by a factor of 3.89 was observed after proton *** changes in the coating were presented by iR Fourier spectroscopy.A slight decrease in the absorption intensity of all characteristic bands compared to the unirradiated sample was *** was found that the irradiation of the coating with protons led to the formation of macromolecules with hydroxyl,carbonyl,and carboxyl bonds,as well as the formation of dimeric and oligomeric siloxane *** was also found that after irradiation of a pure polystyrene sample with protons,the value of the solar absorption as increased by only 4.2%;whereas for the coating with silicaﬁller,the value of as increased by 28.6%.

intestinal anti-inflammatory effect of a plant sterol food supplement in experimental murine colitis and cell co-culture models

The potential of a plant sterol food supplement （ps-Fs） in addressing intestinal inflammation in vivo and in vitro was evaluated. As in vivo model， C57BL/6J mice were exposed to 1.5% dextran sulfate sodium in three 5-day periods， with 10-day rest intervals in between， daily reciving ps-Fs （35 mg ps/kg）. The in vitro approach involved a bi-cameral system with 8-day-differentiated Caco-2 （apical） and RAW264.7 cells （basolateral）. The bioaccessible fraction of ps-Fs， obtained after iNFOGEsT 2.0 simulated gastrointestinal digestion， was added to the apical part （90 min）， followed by stimulation with lipopolysaccharide （1 μg/mL， 24 h）. ps-Fs alleviated rectal bleeding and rebalanced pro- (tumor necrosis factor α， interleukin （iL）-6， and iL-8) and anti-inflammatory cytokines （iL-10）. Additionally， ps-Fs ameliorated histopathological damage and enhancing occludin expression. A reduction in oxidative stress was evidenced by decreased myeloperoxidase activity and reactive oxygen species production. The anti-inflammatory mechanism included suppressing cyclooxygenase 2 expression， reducing prostaglandin E2production， and inhibiting the phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of the nuclear factor κB p65 subunit. This study reveals the potential of ps-Fs as a therapeutic intervention for colitis. The alignment between in vivo and in vitro outcomes substantiates the appropriateness of the co-culture model to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of foods.

Effect of Ta_(2)O_(5)nanoparticles on bioactivity,composition,structure,in vitro and in vivo behavior of pEO coatings on Mg-alloy

The present study investigates the physical and chemical characteristics,behavior in vitro and in vivo,and biocompatibility of coatings containing Ta_(2)O_(5),which are obtained by plasma electrolytic oxidation(pEO)on MA8 magnesium *** obtained coatings demonstrate in vivo biocompatibility and in vitro *** to the base pEO coating,the layers containing Ta_(2)O_(5)facilitate the development of apatite in simulated body fluid,suggesting that the inclusion of nanoparticles improves bioactivity of the *** was found that incorporation of Ta_(2)O_(5)nanoparticles increases roughness and porosity of the formed layers by increasing particle concentration in electrolytes for the pEO process contributing to sufficient soft tissue ingrowth in *** on in vivo studies,these coatings also provide favorable tissue response and minimal inflammatory reaction in comparison with the bare magnesium alloy due to protection of living tissues from deleterious corrosion events of magnesium implant such as local alkalization and intense hydrogen *** results obtained in the present study concluded biocompatibility,tissue integration of the pEO coatings containing Ta_(2)O_(5)nanoparticles making them a promising protective layer for biodegradable magnesium implants.

Aims: The present study aims to compare the assessment of work ability based on the use of the Work Ability index (WAi) with another questionnaire base only on the use of WAi’s first item, termed as the “Work Ability score” (WAs). study design: A cohort of 384 spanish workers included in a post COViD-19 condition or persistent COViD-19 multicenter research was utilized. place and Duration of study: This cohort was enlisted in four hospitals (Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, Madrid;Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena, sevilla, Andalucía;Hospital Universitario Gregorio marañón, Madrid and Complejo Asistencial Universitario de salamanca, Castilla y León), since 2021 until 2022. Methodology: 384 spanish workers (176 men and 208 women;aged 20 to 70 years) with post COViD-19 condition or persistent COViD-19 were included. Descriptive analysis of primary scores was conducted. Given the non-normal distribution of data, the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were employed. spearman and Kendall correlations were employed to assess the relationship between WAi and WAs, also used weighted Kappa to estimate the degree agreement between WAi and WAs. Logistic regression models were utilized to study determinants influencing WAi and WAs, categorized as poor or moderate. Results: WAi had an average score of 32.98 (sD = 10.28), whereas WAs had an average of 5.95 (sD = 2.77). significant differences were observed in both WAi and WAs across the same variables. strong and statistically significant correlations were evident between WAi and WAs (rs = 0.83, p iables used in the logistic regression model (gender, the sector employment, and previous chronic diseases) were statistically significant in both questionnaires. Conclusion: WAs questionnaire could be used as a tool for reliable assessment of work ability among spanish workers with post COViD-19 condition or persistent CO-ViD-19.

Comparative analysis of jet and underlying event properties across various models as a function of charged particle multiplicity at 7 TeV

in this study,a comprehensive analysis of jets and underlying events as a function of charged particle multiplicity in proton-proton(pp)collisions at a center-of-mass energy of √s=7 TeV is *** Monte Carlo(MC)event generators,including pythia8.308,EpOs 1.99,EpOsLHC,EpOs4_(Hydro),and EpOs4_(noHydro),are employed to predict particle *** predictions from these models are compared with experimental data from the CMs *** charged particles are categorized into those associated with underlying events and those linked to jets,and the analysis is restricted to charged particles with|η|p_T>0.25 GeV/*** comparing the MC predictions with CMs data,we find that EpOs4_(Hydro),EpOsLHC,and pythia8 consistently reproduce the experimental results for all charged particles,underlying events,intrajets,and leading charged *** charged jet rates with p_T^(***)>5 GeV/c,EpOs4_(Hydro)and pythia8 perform exceptionally *** the case of charged jet rates with p_T^(***)→30 GeV/c,EpOsLHC reproduces satisfactorily good results,whereas EpOs4 Hydro exhibits good agreement with the data at higher charged particle multiplicities compared to the other *** can be attributed to the conversion of energy into flow when"Hydro=on"leading to an increase in *** EpOsLHC model describes the data better owing to the new collective flow effects,correlated flow treatment,and parameterization compared to EpOs ***,the examination of the jet p_T spectrum and normalized charged p_T density reveals that EpOs4_(Hydro),EpOs4_(noHydro),and EpOsLHC exhibit good agreement with the experimental results,whereas pythia8 and EpOs 1.99 do not perform as well owing to the lack of correlated flow treatment.

Highlighting relationships between sand thicknesses,reservoir-seal pairs and paleobathymetry from a sequence stratigraphic perspective:An example from Tortonian serravallian deposits,onshore Niger Delta Basin

The utilization of sequence stratigraphic concepts in identifying sands and their spatial continuity in distinct gross depositional settings is key,especially in frontier settings where data paucity is a common *** the Baka field,onshore Niger Delta,detailed reservoir correlation guided by sequence stratigraphic framework analysis showed the distribution of sand and shale units constituting reservoirseal pairs(Rsp)correlatable across the *** the 3rd-order packages,it is observed that the lowstand systems tract(LsT)and highstand systems tract(HsT)contain more Rsps and thicker 4th-and 5th-order sands than the transgressive systems tract(TsT).in terms of bathymetry,it is noted that irrespective of systems tracts,the Rsp index(Ri)decreases from the proximal shallow/inner shelf settings to the more distal outer shelf *** all three systems tracts,intervals interpreted as lowstand prograding complexes contain the best developed sands and highest *** development within the LsTs has been controlled by a pronounced growth fault regime accompanied by high subsidence and sedimentation *** is linked to the basinward migration of the sands during prolonged sea-level fall,creating significant accommodation space for sand *** the other hand,the TsTs known to mark periods of progressive sea-level rise and landward migration of sandy facies,show thinner sands enclosed in much thicker,laterally extensive,and better-preserved deeper marine *** seismic sections indicate intense growth faulting and channelization that influenced the syn-and postdepositional development of the sand packages across the *** initial timing of deformation of subregional faults in this area coincides with periods of abrupt falls in sea *** approach could be useful for predicting sand-prone areas in frontier fields as well as possible reservoir-seal parameters required for some aspects of petroleum system analysis and quick-look volum

stress tensors and quantification of fracture patterns to analyze connectivity and potential fluid flow in a mesa landform of the Northern Andes

This work applies stress tensors inversions and quantification of fracture patterns along the Mesa de Los santos, in the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia, to better understand the potential fluid flow. it thus contributes to the conceptual hydrogeological model. The area was subdivided into three blocks, separated by the NW potreros and the Los santos faults, having minor inner faults of different orientations. This separation facilitates the analysis of the fractures measured in the field, which in general show high dip angles and a conjugate geometry in the northern block, tension fractures(Mode i) in the central block, and a random distribution in the southwestern block. WinTensor treatment of slickensides yielded a maximum horizontal stress(sHmax) of 111o, which coincides with the WNW-EsE tensor observed from the conjugate and tension joints. We then used Frac pa Q to generate interpolation maps of fracture intensity and density. The maps show the highest values in the central block and the lowest in the northern block,where the precipitation is higher, causing intensive rock weathering and homogenization of the fracture planes. Although the highest values of connectivity by line are found to the south of the mesa, we suggest the possibility of greater flow from the recharge zone(NE) along bedding planes and open NW-sE fractures.

The iLux^(®) compared to the mechanical meibomian gland expression for the treatment of moderate and severe meibomian gland dysfunction

AiM:To compare the safety and effectiveness of eyelid treatment with the iLux®-MGD Treatment system in one session versus five sessions of mechanical meibomian gland expression(MMGE)in patients with moderate to severe meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD).METHODs:A prospective,randomized,open-label,and controlled clinical trial that compared one session of the iLux®MGD Treatment system versus five sessions of MMGE in both eyes of 130 patients aged≥18y with Ocular surface Disease index(OsDi)scores≥13,total meibomian gland scores(MGs)ofin the lower eyelid of each eye,and non-invasive tear break-up time(Ni-TBUT)s,who were randomized 1:1 to iLux®or ***:The mean age was 58±*** total MGs scores in both treatment groups were *** follow-up,there were significant differences in total MGs and per sector with psis was performed using generalized estimating equations corresponding to the generalized linear model for repeated means to determine the treatment relationship with total MGs,NiBUT,and *** was a significant difference between iLux®and MMGE(pp from the first to the twelfth month in MGs,Ni-BUT,and OsDi *** adverse events were ***:iLux®treatment compared to MMGE significantly improves symptoms and signs in patients with moderate to severe MGD for one year without adverse events.
