AIM:To compare the mydriatic efficacy of an ophthalmic insert(Mydriasert,MY)versus phenylephrine and tropicamide(PT)eye ***:Two controlled,prospective,randomized,single-blind studies were *** the first study,a total of 80 eyes from 40 outpatient-clinic patients were *** drops were applied to the right eye,and a MY device was inserted in the left eye for *** until maximal pupil dilation for each eye was then *** the second study,80 eyes from 80 patients undergoing cataract surgery were *** dilation was achieved using either PT drops three-times for one hour prior to surgery(40 patients),or a MY device was inserted one hour prior to surgery(40 patients).RESULTS:In the first study,MY achieved superior mydriasis compared to PT eye drops at 90min(9.04±1.33mm vs 8.78±1.37mm,P=0.012).However MY took longer than PT drops to achieve maximal dilation,and mydriasis was inferior in eyes with MY compared to PT drops at 30min(7.21±1.73mm vs 8.22±1.43mm,P<0.001),the two groups only becoming similar by 60min(8.85±1.44mm vs 8.71±1.27mm,P=0.236).In the second study,both MY and PT achieved similar levels of mydriasis at the beginning of surgery(8.75±0.76mm with MY vs 8.77±0.63mm with PT),and also at the end of surgery(7.96±1.06mm with MY vs 8.32±0.72mm with PT),with no significant difference between groups(P=0.08).MY was well tolerated and cardiovascular effects were not influenced by dilation ***:MY could be a safe and efficacious alternative for *** mydriatic effect of MY is as good as conventional PT eye drops after 60min,and is superior after *** also maintains good pupil dilation during cataract surgery.

AIM： To assess if the included vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） polymorphisms rs3025035, rs3025021 and rs2010963 are associated to proliferative retinopathy in a Mexican population with type 2 diabetes mellitus （T2DM）. METHODS： A case-control study was conducted in adult individuals with T2DM associated to proliferative retinopathy or non-proliferative retinopathy from Oct. 2014 to Jun. 2015 from the Retina department of the Asociation to Prevent Blindness in Mexico. The selected patients were adults with a diagnosis of T2DM ≥5y. All subjects had a comprehensive ocular examination and the classification of the retinopathy severity was made considering the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study （ETDRS） standardization protocols. Genomic DNA was extracted from whole fresh blood. All samples were genotyped by qPCR for selected VEGF polymorphisms. Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was calculated by comparing Chi-square values between the expected and the observed values for genotype ***： In total 142 individuals were enrolled, 71 individuals with T2DM and associated proliferative retinopathy and 71 individuals with non-proliferative retinopathy. One-sided Fisher’s exact test was performed for rs3025021 [OR （95% CI）=0.44（0.08-2.2）; P=0.25] and rs2010963 [OR （95% CI）=0.63（0.25-1.6）; P=0.23]. The minor allelic frequencies obtained were 26% for rs3025021, 10% for rs3025035 and 61% for rs2010963. The pairwise linkage disequilibrium between the three SNP was assessed, and was as follows： rs3025021 vs rs3025035： D’=1.0, r2=0.1043, P≤0.0001; rs3025021 vs rs2010963： D’=0.442, r2=0.0446, P=0.149; rs3025035 vs rs2010963： D’=0.505, r2=0.0214, P=***： This is the first analysis involving VEGF polymorphisms and proliferative diabetic retinopathy in a Mexican population. This review gives a concise introduction to the state-of-art techniques used for surface texturing, e.g., wet etching, plasma etching, laser surface texturing (LST), 3D printing, etc. In order to fabricate deterministic textures with the desired geometric structures and scales, the innovative texturing technologies are developed and extended. Such texturing technology is an emerging frontier with revolutionary impact in industrial and scientific fields. With the help of the latest fabrication technologies, surface textures are scaling down and more complex deterministic patterns may be fabricated with desired functions, e.g., lotus effect (hydrophobic), gecko feet (adhesive), haptic tactile, etc. The objective of this review is to explore the surface texturing technology and its contributions to the applications.

Background The quality of cotton fiber determines its value in the textile market,influencing agricultural profitability and the efficiency of textile *** selection of genotypes with superior fibers is a key factor for genetic improvement programs seeking adaptability and sustainability in the face of climate *** demonstrates the strategic importance of this plant for sustainable agriculture and the global textile *** objective of this research was to decipher the fiber quality of Gossypium barbadense *** in the native Amazonian communities of La Convención,Cusco-Perú,and to evaluate other critical aspects of native cotton that have not yet been *** methodology included non-probability sampling for accessibility,qualitative and quantitative analyses,and multivariate *** fiber length(mm),micronaire index(maturity/fineness),fiber strength(gf/tex),length uniformity index(%),fiber elongation(%),maturation index(%),and short fiber index(%)were the fiber characteristics evaluated using the HVI method in cotton *** Cotton accessions collected from Koribeni(Gossypium spp.)and Shivankoreni(Gossypium barbadense ***)stood out for their fiber quality properties,especially length,strength,and uniformity,which highlights their relevance for advanced textile applications and potential for use in plant genetic improvement *** These findings reinforce the need to conserve and study these native cotton accessions from the Peruvian Amazon region,which can offer promising perspectives for the textile industry and agricultural biodiversity.

The Mexican oregano ＂Lippia berlandieri Shauer＂ is a versatile plant, for multiple purposes and high potential adaptative capabilities. To evaluate the possibility to use oregano as a cover surface on tailings deposits and thereby mitigate the emission of particulate material with metals content, an experiment was carried out comparing the plant growing rate over a period of six-month in four substrates： tailings, vermicompost, ＂soil＂ of the region and a mixture of ＂tailings plus vermicompost＂. The statistical analysis shows a significant difference between treatments, resulting in the ＂soil＂ substrate with the best performance, followed by the mixture of＂tailings plus vermicompost＂ treatment. The low permeability oftailings strongly affects the adaptability and growth of the oregano plant; however, the adaptation possibilities increase in the mixture oftailings with vermicompost or ＂soil＂ of the region.
