Adaptability and Stability of Yield and Industrial Grain Quality with and without Fungicide in Brazilian Oat Cultivars

The use of productive cultivars with adaptability and stability and less demanding to fungicide use are critical to the sustainability of production factors. The objective of this work was to determine the per se performance of white oat cultivars and parameters of adaptability and stability on yield and grain quality in the proposition of cultivars more responsive in reducing the use fungicide. The study was conducted in Augusto Pestana, RS, Brazil, between the years 2010 and 2013. The experimental design was randomized blocks with six replicates, three with and three without fungicide. The study evaluated 14 white oat cultivars for yield and industrial capability. The white oat cultivars FAEM 4 Carlasul and URS Corona indicate high grain yield with stability and general adaptability, independent of chemical control. The cultivar URS Corona shows together high yield and thousand grain weight and hectoliter with general adaptability and stability in the absence of fungicide. Although no stability has been detected in industrial yield without the use of fungicides, cultivars of URS Charrua, URS Corona and URS Taura show high means with general adaptability.

Cold and Fertile: Cryopreservation as an Innovative Tool in Addressing Challenges in Teratozoospermia

Teratozoospermia is an infertility issue that affects a significant number of couples of reproductive age. One of the potential causes contributing to the global decline in seminal quality includes factors such as diet, alcohol and tobacco consumption, high levels of stress, and environmental influences. This underscores the need to preserve the fertility of these patients through cryopreservation techniques. In this review, we explore the latest methods for freezing seminal samples, highlighting their advancements and advantages in addressing the challenge of perpetuating animal species, particularly in the context of human infertility.

The current pressure on the built historical heritage requires a global evaluation to develop strategies for its preservation.A combined vision of the state of conservation of architectural heritage is essential to highlight the vulnerabilities of the structure from which harmonized measures can be proposed for its mitigation.This study proposes a multi-criteria analysis methodology that considers a qualitative and quantitative approach to organize the global conservation state of heritage buildings hierarchically.A global index can be determined on the basis of the generation of an interoperable data matrix by defining a set of indicators to assess different components of a building.This index describes the risk with respect to the stability,safety,and habitability of the building.This methodology aims to achieve the state of the building in an integral way by obtaining a simple and objective index that enables efficient comparison among different buildings.The application of this methodology to a historic area allows creating a hierarchical map of risk to stablish priorities for intervention and enable a sustainable and critical management and planning over the actions of maintenance,conservation,and restoration.In this way,a holistic vision of the complex reality of built heritage and the urban landscape is obtained to identify critical areas of priority intervention.

Here we present the assembly of novel transparent all-polymer distributed feedback(DFB)lasers.Flexible and highly transparent cellulose diacetate(CdA)was employed as substrate on which gratings with different periods were engraved by thermal nanoimprinting with high fidelity.Highly luminescent conjugated polymers(CP),poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene)(PFO),poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-alt-benzothiadiazole)(F8BT),and a blend of F8BT and poly(3-hexylthiophene)-poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-altbenzothiadiazole)(P3HT:F8BT)were deposited by spin coating onto the nanostructured plastic surfaces,giving rise to perpendicular single-mode lasing emission in the blue,green,and red wavelength ranges,respectively.These lasers show linewidths below 1 nm and low thresholds(≈6μJcm^(−2) for blue and red lasing emission),comparable to other state-of-the-art lasers obtained from similar optical gain materials on rigid substrates.The followed strategy is scalable and versatile,enabling the development of large area nanoimprinted DFB lasers(>1cm^(2))on plastic,which is highly relevant for applications in various markets.
