High-saturated fat(HF)or high-fructose(HFr)consumption in children predispose them to metabolic syndrome(Mets).In rodent models of Mets,diets containing individually HF or HFr lead to a variable degree of ***,simultaneous intake of HF plus HFr have synergistic effects,worsening Mets *** children,the effects of HF or HFr intake usually have been addressed ***,we have reviewed the outcomes of HF or HFr diets in children,and we compare them with the effects reported in *** humans,HFr intake causes increased lipogenesis,hypertriglyceridemia,obesity and insulin *** the other hand,HF diets promote low grade-inflammation,obesity,insulin *** the deleterious effects of simultaneous HF plus HFr intake on Mets development in rodents,there is little information about the combined effects of HF plus HFr intake in *** aim of this review is to warn about this issue,as individually addressing the effects produced by HF or HFr may underestimate the severity of the outcomes of Western diet intake in the pediatric *** consider that this is an alarming issue that needs to be assessed,as the simultaneous intake of HF plus HFr is common on fast food menus.

Various studies indicate that low levels of estradiol negatively impact cognitive abilities. Extracts from the fungus Hericium erinaceus (HE) contain bioactive components that promote the proper functioning of the nervous system and potential effects on protection against neurodegenerative diseases, including dementia and motor dysfunctions. The objective was to evaluate the effects of the administration of the HE mushroom extract on visuospatial memory and morphology of neurons in the CA1 and CA3 regions of the hippocampus in ovariectomized rats. 40 young Wistar rats weighing 90 ± 10 g BW were used, which were distributed into four groups of 10 animals;Control Group, non-ovariectomized and untreated rats;Group E2, ovariectomized rats treated with estradiol (2 μg/kg/body weight);Group HE, ovariectomized rats treated with the extract of the fungus Hericium erinaceus (0.5 mg/kg body weight) and Group Ovx/sT, ovariectomized rats, without treatment. The animals were tested in the Barnes and Open Field maze, then they were sacrificed, and their brains were obtained to perform a histological analysis of neuronal morphology in the CA1 and CA3 areas of the hippocampus. The most outstanding results showed that the Ovx/sT group recorded the longest time to arrive at the escape box and stay in the Barnes maze. A correlation was observed between neuronal damage and function;in the groups that did not present satisfactory performance in the maze tests, morphological alterations were identified such as the presence of some neuronal somata with degeneration characteristics such as pyknosis, nuclear basophilia and shrinkage of the cells. Its soma, as well as a decrease in the nuclear area of CA1 and CA3 neurons. It is concluded that the fungus Hericium erinaceus exerted a neuroprotective effect on the neuronal bodies of the hippocampus, associated with better performance in the visuospatial recognition memory test.

Ultraviolet radiation by its wavelength is divided into: UVA, UVB and UVC. Only UVA and UVB manage to penetrate the ozone layer, but due to anthropological activities, all of them are capable of interacting with humans to a greater or lesser extent, and can generate adverse effects such as cellular stress when interacting with intra-and extracellular biomolecules. The skin is the first organ in contact with UV radiation, and the stress it generates can be analyzed by the expression of a bioindicator of cellular damage such as Hsp70. Therefore, the objective of the project was: to determine the effect of UVA, UVB and UVC radiation on HaCaT epithelial cells, by analyzing the expression of Hsp70. Materials and methods: HaCaT cells were cultured in vitro, which were irradiated with UVA, UVB and UVC light at different doses, to subsequently determine the degree of Hsp70 expression by Immunodetection by PAGE-sDs and Western Blot. Results: Basal expression of Hsp70 was observed in no irradiated HaCaT cells. When HaCaT cells were irradiated with UVA, UVB, UVC, an increase in this Hsp70 protein was observed. With UVA, a higher degree of expression was observed at a time of 30 minutes of irradiation. With UVB the highest expression shifted to a time of 20 minutes. With UVC, overexpression was observed after 10 minutes. Conclusion: UV radiation generates cellular stress on HaCaT cells, evaluated by the stress bioindicator Hsp70. According to the wavelength of UV radiation, those that have a shorter wavelength have a greater potential for cellular damage, such as UVC.

Background: Deep brain stimulation (DBs) is an established treatment for patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD). Reports show continued patient satisfaction after surgery despite not maintaining clinical improvement as measured by evolution scales. Objectives: The present study sought to explore expectations and level of satisfaction in patients after DBs surgery with a semi-structured questionnaire and subsequent correlation with functional scales, Quality of Life (QoL), and motor and non-motor symptoms. Methods: We performed descriptive statistics to represent demographic data, Wilcoxon rank tests to determine significant differences, and spearman correlation between the applied scales. Results: We evaluated 20 patients with a history of DBs surgery. 45% were female, with a mean age of 55.7 ± 14.15 years, a mean disease duration of 13.42 ± 8.3 years, and a mean time after surgery of 3.18 ± 1.86 years. Patients reported surgery meeting expectations in 85.5% and continued satisfaction in 92%. These two variables showed a significant correlation. Conclusions: This sample of patients remained satisfied after DBs surgery, although we found no differences in motor and non-motor clinimetric scales. Further studies are needed to confirm the importance of assessing quality of life in patients with DBs.

The removal of Cr,sulfates and Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD)from industrial tannery wastewater by chemical precipitation was carried out using Calcium oxide(CaO)and Calcium hydroxide(Ca(OH)2).Different doses of alkalis,ranging from deficiency to excess hydroxyl species over the stoichiometric necessary,were used to remove theoretically the 100%of Cr[0.3-3.2 g alkali·(g Cr^3+)^-1].The precipitation was carried out at room temperature,10 min of vigorous stirring,200 r·min^-1 and a settling time of 24 h,followed by separation and characterization of liquid *** result of addition of alkalis,pH underwent increase as did the alkali *** removal of Cr,and sulfates also increased as alkali concentration did,although for first species the changes at higher alkali contents were less *** removal on the other hand,did not follow a unique trend,instead exhibited a *** on our results,selection of a specific dose of alkali was carried out taking as reference the efficiency on total chromium removal,keeping the pH in the range 7 to 9 to ensure Cr precipitation as chromium *** those conditions,jar test was used to produce enough liquid product in order to determine the removal percent of several other *** removal percent of the species was as follows:Cr,sO4^2-,ZnsO4,FesO4,CN^-1,NisO4,Fe2[Fe(CN)6]at 99.8%,66.9%,99.6%,21.4%,70.9%,52.8%and 76.4%with CaO,and 99.8%,61.6%,99.9%,7.1%,84.0%,54.4%and 90.5%with Ca(OH)2,respectively.

Introduction: Diabetes is a disease characterized by an increase in blood glucose due to disorders in insulin production, this disease is widely distributed throughout the world. Objective: to review and systematize the general information on diabetes, as well as the traditional treatments and the findings on kombucha as an alternative method. Method: the information retrieval technique or literature review was used on the topics of diabetes, allopathic methods, kombucha, preparation procedures, chemical and microbiological components and pharmacological effects of the drink. Results: Various sources of information were found that explain the definition of diabetes and its classification. it commonly presents in four ways depending on the signs, the common ones being type 1, associated with destruction of the β cells of the pancreas and mainly affects minors, and type 2, which is related to genetic and environmental problems and It affects people over 18 years of age, and less frequently gestational diabetes and MODY type. Traditional drugs such as sulfonylureas, glinides and biguanides, thiazolidinediones and α-glucosidase inhibitors are used to control this disease, or alternative therapies are used such as kombucha, a fermented beverage that has its origins in China and is spread worldwide by its beneficial effects in chronic degenerative diseases such as diabetes, due to its chemical and microbiological content. Conclusion: The information establishes important data on kombucha as one of the complementary alternatives for the treatment of diabetes.

Objective: to evaluate the protective effect of kombucha and its components not polar, in pancreas of diabetic rats treated with streptozotocin. Material and methods: ninety-six male Wistar rats of 120 to 170 g of PC were used;four groups of 24 animals were formed: control (GC), control treatment (GCTx), kombucha treatment (GTxK) and treatment with non-polar components of kombucha (GTxCNP). Diabetes was induced in the last three groups with an intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin at a dose of 65 mg/kg BW. At the same time, treatment was started in the different groups;GC and GCTx groups were administered, orally, 1 ml of sterile saline solution;to the GTxK group 324 mg/kg of kombucha;and to GTxCNP 0.006 mg/kg of the non-polar components. For the histopathological study, pancreas samples were obtained on days 1, 7, 14 and 21 and fixed in formalin. They were processed with the histological technique, 5-micron-thick sections were made and stained with the hematoxylin-eosin technique. Finally, the number of islets of Langerhans per field observed with the 10x objective was quantified. The results were subjected to a one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s test (p Results: significant changes in the number of islets were observed in histological sections of the pancreas. The groups treated with streptozotocin showed a significant decrease in the number of islets 7 days after starting treatment;Likewise, their number was lower in the GCTx group compared to the GTxK and GTxCNP groups (p ≤ 0.05). At 14 and 21 days, the lowest number of islets was maintained, although only in the GCTx and GTxK groups (p ≤ 0.05). streptozotocin is a drug that can be used in rats to induce an experimental model of diabetes with an effect that can last up to 21 days. Conclusions: This fermented beverage and its non-polar components can be a complementary treatment alternative for diabetes mellitus, since it prevents further damage to the β cells of the pancreas and the Islets of Langerh

Objective: The present study consisted of challenging the extract of kombucha and the fungus Ganoderma reported as hypoglycemic and used as alternative treatments against diabetes on the number and morphology of islets of Langerhans. Material and Methods: 64 Wistar rats were used in 4 groups: one control, three experimental, streptozotocin, Kombucha y Ganoderma induced diabetes with streptozotocin. Divided into four post-induction stages at 2, 15, 30 and 45 days of treatment, sacrificing 4 rats at each stage, to perform the morphological analysis of the pancreas. Results: A decrease in the islets of Langerhans in size, volume and the number of cells within them was identified for the streptozotocin group from the second stage until almost disappearing due to diabetes, in the groups of Kombucha y Ganoderma the same was observed but they were recovered with the extract treatments and the average number of islets was similar in these groups, the group of Ganoderma. Conclusion: Under the conditions of this work, a protective and regenerative effect of both extracts is identified.
