The shortfin mako shark(Isurus oxyrinchus)is one of the fastest marine fishes,reaching speeds of up to 70 km·h^-*** speed is related to the skin surface design composed of dermal *** vary in size and shape according to placement on the body and minimize turbulence around the *** objective of this study is to analyze the interaction between seawater flow and denticles on the dorsal ***-resolution microscopy(scanning electron microscopy and confocal microscopy)were used to measure defined parts of the dermal *** measurements,along with ratios based on length-to-width define three morphologies(rounded,semi-rounded,long)that were 3D *** fluid dynamics simulated fluid passage over reconstructed denticles and describe hy-drodynamic efficiency under different *** increase in angle of inclination produced a relevant increase in the drag coefficient,especially for high velocity *** lowest drag coefficient values were found in long and semi-rounded,followed by rounded *** hydrodynamic behavior of shark skin demonstrates a relation to the morphological characteristics of dermal denticles on the dorsal *** is concluded that the best hydroefficiency relies on the rounded morphology and may serve to design hydrodynamically efficient surfaces or manmade assemblies.

Synthesis of plant-based biogenic jarosite nanoparticles using Azadirachta indica and Eucalyptus gunni leaf extracts and its application in Fenton degradation of dicamba

Bio-jarosite,an iron mineral synthesized biologically using bacteria,is a substitute for iron catalysts in the Fenton oxidation of organic *** nanocatalysts have been widely used as Fenton catalysts because they have a larger surface area than ordinary catalysts,are highly recyclable,and can be treated *** study aimed to explore the catalytic properties of bio-jarosite iron nanoparticles syn-thesized with green methods using two distinct plant species:Azadirachta indica and Eucalyptus *** focus was on the degradation of dicamba via Fenton *** synthesized nanoparticles exhibited different particle size,shape,surface area,and chemical composition *** particles were effective in removing dicamba,with removal efficiencies of 96.8%for *** bio-jarosite iron nano-particles(ABFeNPs)and 93.0%for *** bio-jarosite iron nanoparticles(EBFeNPs)within 120 min of *** the catalyst dosage by 0.1 g/L resulted in 7.6%and 43.0%increases in the dicamba removal efficiency for EBFeNPs and ABFeNPs with rate constants of 0.025 min^(-1) and 0.023 min^(-1),respectively,confrming their catalytic ***,the high efficiency of both catalysts was demonstrated through five consecutive cycles of linear pseudo-first-order Fenton oxidation reactions.

Penile glans amputation is a tragic complication of circumcision. Beyond the psychological trauma parents go through, they have to deal with the lower urinary tract symptoms including acute urine retention their baby boys suffer due to meatal stenosis from the scaring process that ensues. We report on the cosmetic and functional outcomes in two patients ten years after neo-glans reconstruction following total glans amputation as a complication of circumcision and discuss the lessons learned over the period.

Influence of carbide ceramic reinforcements in improving tribological properties of A333 graded hybrid composites

Aluminium hybrid functionally graded metal matrix composites(FGMMCs),meet growing demands for supreme tribo-mechanical performance in automotive and aviation *** research experimentally compares the influence of carbide ceramics(B_(4)C,SiC,TiC)as reinforcements,in improving reciprocating tribology performance and mechanical strength of A333 hybrid composites against *** cylindrical samples of A333/6 wt%B_(4)C/4 wt%TiC and A333/6 wt%B_(4)C/4 wt%SiC hybrid FGMMCs were developed using horizontal centrifugal *** analysis on both composites revealed increasing ceramic gradient distribution towards outer composite *** rich zone of A333/B_(4)C/SiC hybrid FGMMC showed maximum micro-hardness(198.9 HV)and tensile strength(267.9 MPa).Elemental mapping confirmed effective distribution of ceramics and detected elemental composition of both *** rich layer of A333/B_(4)C/SiC hybrid FGMMC exhibited improved wear resistance in comparison with all three layers of A333/B_(4)C/TiC hybrid FGMMC and ***-body abrasion and tribo-chemical wear were the predominant mechanisms revealed for both composites during worn surface analysis.

Urethroplasty among Elderly Men, Surgical Techniques and Outcomes

Introduction: Urethroplasty remains the gold standard for the management of urethral stricture. However, the treatment of stricture disease in the elderly tends to be less invasive due to the presumption that they might not be able to stand long hours of surgery and might have higher rates of recurrence due to poor wound healing from microangiopathy. We present our experience with the outcomes of urethroplasty among elderly men seen at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital from January 2012 to December 2021. Methods: This was a retrospective review of data captured in the urology database on all patients 65 years and above who underwent urethroplasty at the hospital over the study period. Data was obtained on patients’ demographics, stricture characteristics, urethroplasty technique, and outcome. A successful outcome was defined as peak flow rate > 15 mls/s, a patent urethra on retrograde urethrogram, patient satisfaction with urine stream, or restoration of the normal stream of urine with only one attempt at urethral calibration or internal urethrotomy postoperatively. Data was analyzed using PASW Statistics for Windows, Version 18.0. Results: Overall, 43 urethroplasties were done over the study period in elderly men. The age range was 65 to 87 years. The commonest aetiology was catheterization (62.79%) followed by urethritis (32.56%). Stricture length ranged from 0.5 cm to 16 cm with a mean of 3.93 cm. Most patients (60.46%) had bulbar urethral strictures. The repair methods employed were anastomotic urethroplasty (62.80%), fasciocutaneous flap (FCF) ventral onlay (13.95%), buccal mucosa graft (BMG) ventral onlay urethroplasty (4.65%), and staged urethroplasty (4.65%). Three of the patients (6.98%) had a combination of anastomotic and tissue transfer urethroplasty. The overall success rate was 88.37%. Nano-ayurvedic medicine is an emerging field in which nanoparticles are functionalized with active principles of potent ayurvedic herbs to enhance their efficacy and target-specific *** advances in the past couple of decades have revealed the molecular mechanisms behind the anticancer potential of several ayurvedic herbs,attributed chiefly to their secondary metabolites including polyphenols and other active *** the advancement of nanotechnology,it has been established that size-,shape-,and surface-chemistry-optimized nanoparticles can be utilized as synergizing carriers for these ***-ayurvedic medicine utilizes herbs that are commonly used in Ayurveda to functionalize different nanoparticles and thereby enhance their potency and target *** have shown that the active phytochemicals of such herbs can be coated onto the nanoparticles of different metals,such as gold,and that they work more efficiently than the free herbal extract,for example,in inhibiting cancer cell ***,an Ayurveda,Yoga&Naturopathy,Unani,Siddha and Homeopathy(AYUSH)-based clinical trial in humans indicated the anticancer potential of such ***-ayurvedic medicine is emerging as a potential treatment option for hyperproliferative diseases.
