Preliminary study on the antibacterial activity of some medicinal plants of Khuzestan(Iran)

Objective:To search for antimicrobial agents among natural ***:Ethanolic extracts of 4 plant species,including Beta vulgaris L.(Chenopodiaceae),Amaranthus graecizans (***) L.(Amaranthaceae),Rumex obtusifolius(***) *** Polygonum patulum(***) M.B.(Polygonaceae),were evaluated for antibacterial activity using agar disc diffusion method against some gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria[Pseudomonas aeruginosa(***),Listeria monocytogenes(***).Staphylococcus epidermidis(***),Staphylococcus aureus(***),Klebsiella pneumoniae(K. pneumoniae),Salmonella typhi(***),Bacillus cereus(***).Bacillus anthracis(B. anthracis),Escherichia coli(***) and Streptococcus pyogenes(***)].These extracts were obtained from aerial parts of the used ***:The majority of these extracts had inhibitory effect at different concentrations(0.05 g/mL,0.10 g/mL,0.20 g/mL and 0.40 g/mL) against above mentioned *** was the most resistant *** highest inhibitory zone was showed by ethanolic extract of *** against ***(28 mm) and followed by ethanolic extract of *** against ***(23 mm).The extract of *** didn’t show inhibitory activity except at 0.40 g/mL against *** minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC) values of *** extract that was measured against *** were equal(MIC=MBC=5.00mg/mL).Conclusion: The findings of this study could also be as new source for antibiotics discovery and infection treatment.

Brucellosis, a zoonosis caused by four species of brucella, has a high morbidity. Brucella melitensis is the main causative agent of brucellosis in both human and small ruminants. As an alternative to conventional antibiotics, medicinal plants are valuable resources for new agents against antibiotic-resistant strains. The aim of this study was to investigate the usage of native plants for brucellosis treatment. For this purpose, the anti-brucella activities of ethanolic and methanolic extracts of Salvia sclarea, Oliveria decumbens, Ferulago angulata, Vitex pseudo-negundo, Teucrium polium, Plantago ovata, Cordia myxa, and Crocus sativus were assessed. The activity against a resistant Br. melitensis strain was determined by disc diffusion method at various concentrations from 50-400 mg/ml. Antibiotic discs were also used as a control. Among the evaluated herbs, six plant (Salvia sclarea, Oliveria decumbens, Ferulago angulata, Vitex pseudo-negundo, Teucrium polium, and Crocus sativus) showed anti-brucella activity. Oliveria de- cumbens was chosen as the most effective plant for further studies. A tested isolate exhibited resistance to tetracycline, nafcillin, oxacillin, methicillin, and colistin. Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) values for Oliveria decumbens against resistant Br. melitensis were the same (5 mg/ml), and for gentamicin they were both 2 mg/ml. Time-kill kinetics for a methanolic extract of Oliveria decumbens was 7 h whereas for an ethanolic extract it was 28 h. Also, Oliveria decumbens extracts showed a synergistic effect in combination with doxycycline and tetracycline. In general, the similar values of MIC and MBC for Oliveria decumbens suggest that these extracts could act as bactericidal agents against Br. melitensis. In addition to Oliveria decumbens, Crocus sativus and Salvia sclarea also had good anti-brucella activity and these should be considered for further study.

Controlled blasting techniques are used to control overbreak and to aid in the stability of the remaining rock formation. Presplitting is one of the most common methods which is used in many open pit mining and surface blast design. The purpose of presplitting is to form a fracture plane across which the radial cracks from the production blast cannot travel. The purpose of this study is to investigate of effect of presplitting on the generation of a smooth wall in continuum and jointed rock mass. The 2D distinct element code was used to simulate the presplitting in a rock slope. The blast load history as a function of time was applied to the inner wall of each blasthole. Important parameters that were considered in the analysis were stress tensor and fracturing pattern. The blast loading magnitude and blasthole spacing and jointing pattern were found to be very significant in the final results.

Major depressive disorder(MDD)is a common,serious,debilitating condition affecting 350 million people worldwide,which remains to be unsatisfactorily treated with 53%of patients still complaining of symptoms after completing their courses with the correct ***,which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2019,is a potential treatment option for those recalcitrant *** mechanism of ketamine is not fully understood,but as type it is classified as an N-methyl-D-aspartate(NMDA)glutamate receptor antagonist,and can be given intravenously,intranasally and *** is used to treat treatment-resistant depression,depression associated with suicidal ideation,mood and anxiety disorders and depressions associated with either type of bipolar *** ketamine is considered relatively safe,several side effects have been reported with the major ones being psychiatric in the form of worsening mood,anxiety and agitation;psychotomimetic in the form of dissociation,perceptual disturbance and abnormal sensations;cardiovascular in the form of increased blood pressure and increased heart rate;and neurological in the form of headache and *** is still not approved worldwide for usage in patients with treatment-resistant MDD,but if it is approved sometime in the future with relatively fewer side effects,it is expected to significantly save millions of dollars spent yearly on patients with treatment-resistant depression and that will lift this major burden off the shoulders of healthcare *** study was designed to measure the effects of ketamine,an NMDA receptor antagonist,on patients with treatment-resistant MDD and to analyse the concept that makes it different and relatively safer than other major antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors,monoamine oxidase inhibitors and TCAs(tricyclic antidepressants).

Australia is a relatively stable continental region but not tectonically inert,having geological conditions that are susceptible to liquefaction when subjected to earthquake ground *** hazard assessment for Australia was conducted because no Australian liquefaction maps that are based on modern Al techniques are currently *** this study,several conditioning factors including Shear wave velocity(Vs30),clay content,soil water content,soil bulk density,soil thickness,soil pH,distance from river,slope and elevation were considered to estimate the liquefaction potential index(LPI).By considering the Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment(PSHA)technique,peak ground acceleration(PGA)was derived for 50 yrs period(500 and 2500 yrs return period)in ***,liquefaction hazard index(LHI)(effects based on the size and depth of the liquefiable areas)was estimated by considering the LPI along with the 2%and 10%exceedance probability of earthquake ***,ground acceleration data from the Geoscience Australia projecting 2%and 10%exceedance rate of PGA for 50 yrs were used in this study to produce earthquake induced soil liquefaction hazard ***,deep neural net-works(DNNs)were also exerted to estimate liquefaction hazard that can be reported as liquefaction hazard base maps for Australia with an accuracy of 94%and 93%,*** per the results,very-high liquefaction hazard can be observed in Western and Southern Australia including some parts of *** research is the first ever country-scale study to be considered for soil liquefaction hazard in Australia using geospatial information in association with PSHA and deep learning *** study used an earthquake design magnitude threshold of Mw 6 using the source model *** resulting maps present the earthquake-triggered liquefaction hazard and are intending to establish a conceptual structure to guide more detailed investigations as may be requir

The Dumont differential system on the Jacobi elliptic functions was introduced by Dumont(1979)and was extensively studied by Dumont, Viennot, Flajolet and so on. In this paper, we first present a labeling scheme for the cycle structure of permutations. We then introduce two types of Jacobi pairs of differential equations. We present a general method to derive the solutions of these differential equations. As applications,we present some characterizations for several permutation statistics.

Geothermal energy potential is usually discussed in the context of conventional or engineered systems and at the scale of an individual reservoir. Whereas exploration for conventional reservoirs has been relatively easy, with expressions of resource found close to or even at the surface, exploration for non-conventional systems relies on temperature inherently increasing with depth and searching for favourable geological environments that maximise this increase. To utilitise the information we do have, we often assimilate available exploration data with models that capture the physics of the domi- nant underlying processes. Here, we discuss computational modelling approaches to exploration at a regional or crust scale, with application to geothermal reservoirs within basins or systems of basins. Target reservoirs have （at least） appropriate temperature, permeability and are at accessible depths. We discuss the software development approach that leads to effective use of the tool Underworld. We explore its role in the process of modelling, understanding computational error, importing and exporting geological knowledge as applied to the geological system underpinning the Guangdong Province, China.

Objective:To investigate the prevalence of head lice in primary and middle school children in Asadabad,***:This study is an analytical descriptive cross-sectional one conducted among primary and middle school children in Asadabad during the academic year of 2013–*** were collected at baseline via questionnaire,checklist and head ***:A total of 600 students were examined(412 girls and 188 boys),and 14 students showed *** the total prevalence rate was 2.3%(3.2% girls and 0.5% boys).The infestation was equal in public and private *** rate of pediculosis was higher in students of primary schools(4.0%) than those in middle schools(0.7%).The age of the students ranged from 6 to 14 *** total number of infected group was 14 with mean age of 8.93 ± 2.43 years,and it was 586 with mean age of 10.98 ± 2.82 years for the uninfected group who were enrolled in the study(P 0.05).Conclusions:It is necessary to find the risk factors of the infection in order to understand how to control or decrease infection in students,considering the important role of health education in reduction of head lice infections.

Biogas is a renewable and clean energy source that plays an important role in the current environment of lowcarbon *** high-content CO_(2) in biogas can be separated,transformed,and utilized,it not only realizes high-value utilization of biogas but also promotes carbon reduction in the biogas *** improve the combustion stability of biogas,an inhomogeneous,partially premixed stratified(IPPS)combustion model was adopted in this *** thermal flame structure and stability were investigated for a wide range of mixture inhomogeneities,turbulence levels,CO_(2) concentrations,air-to-fuel velocity ratios,and combustion energies in a concentric flow slot burner(CFSB).A fine-wire thermocouple is used to resolve the thermal flame *** flame size was reduced by increasing the CO_(2) concentration and the flames became lighter *** flame temperature also decreased with increase in CO_(2) *** stability was reduced by increasing the CO_(2) ***,at a certain level of mixture inhomogeneity,the concentration of CO_(2) in the IPPS mode did not affect the ***,the IPPS mode of combustion should be suitable for the combustion and stabilization of *** should support the design of highly stabilized biogas turbulent flames independent of CO_(2) *** data show that the lower stability conditions are partially due to the change in fuel combustion energy,which is characterized by the Wobbe index(WI).In addition,at a certain level of mixture inhomogeneity,the effect of the WI on flame stability becomes dominant.
