Assessment of the reinforcement behavior of soil under cyclic and monotonic loads is of great impor- tance in the safe design of mechanically stabilized earth walls, In this article, the method of conducting a multistage pullout （MSP） test on the polymeric strip （PS） is presented, The post-cyclic behavior of the reinforcement can be evaluated using a large-scale pullout apparatus adopting MSP test and one-stage pullout （OSP） test procedures, This research investigates the effects of various factors including load amplitude, load frequency, number of load cycles and vertical effective stress on the peak apparent coefficient of friction mobilized at the soil-PS interface and the pullout resistance of the PS buried in dry sandy soil. The results illustrate that changing the cyclic tensile load frequency from 0,1 hz to 0,5 hz does not affect the pullout resistance. Moreover, the influence of increasing the number of load cycles from 30 to 250 on the peak pullout resistance is negligible. Finally, the effect of increasing the cyclic tensile load amplitude from 20% to 40% on the monotonic pullout resistance can be ignored. The peak apparent coefficient of friction mobilized at the soil-PS interface under monotonic and cyclic load conditions decreases with the increase in vertical effective stress.

Spatial Assessment of Water Quantity Stress in Sultanate of Oman Provinces: A GIS Based Analysis of Water Resources Variability

Water quantity planning and management require understanding of spatial variations of water catchment availability. Several environmental indicators are associated with water quantity such as flood occurrence, drought severity, seasonal supply and groundwater stress. Analyzing water stress at national geographic scale is crucial to detect and explore geographic shortage of water resources at national scale. In this study, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) techniques were employed to analyze the spatial variations of water scarcity across Sultanate of Oman provinces. For this main objective, various spatial and attribute datasets were prepared. Many variables were selected based on their importance and correlation with water quantity. GIS overlay function then was used to produce maps for each water indicator. This was followed by employing raster zonal statistics to aggregate the values of each catchment area within each province. The findings of this analysis indicated that significant spatial variation was found among Omani provinces in terms of water quantity stress and its determinants. The most important factors affecting the water quantity stress were drought severity and flood occurrence. Furthermore, physical risk of water quantity was higher in Mascut and Dhofar provinces while it was moderate in al-Batinah, A’Dakhiliyah and al-Wusta. Lower risk of water quantity was observed in A’Sharqiyah, Masandam, and A’Dhahriah provinces. Thus, in order to mitigate the impacts of water scarcity on agriculture, cultivation and domestic usages, policy makers in water sector should include spatial strategies for water resource maintain and allocation.

Experimental investigations were carried out to determine the al2O3/water and SiO2/water nanofluids flowing through a circular tube. convective heat transfer performance and pressure drop of Measurements show that the addition of small amounts of nano-sized al2O3 particles to the base fluid increases heat transfer coefficients considerably, while the result for the silica nanofluids contradicts with the alumina nanofluids and this leads to some interesting results. In the case of alumina nanofluids, an average increase of 16% in convective heat transfer coefficient is observed with an average penalty of 28% in pressure drop. Moreover, flow resistance increases significantly compared to the base fluid even at very low concentrations of nanofluids. Finally, measured heat transfer coefficients are compared with predicted ones from the correlation of Shah under the same conditions.

To prepare a high-performance epoxy resin with excellent thermal, chemical and corrosion stability, diaminoxanthone（DAX） was used to cure diglycidylether of bisphenol-A（DGEBA）-based epoxy resin and blend of DGEBA with functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticles. Kinetic parameters of curing and thermal degradation of epoxy resin systems were estimated by differential scanning calorimetry（DSC） and thermogravimetric analysis（TGA）, respectively. The 10% weight loss temperature has been increased from 340 °C to 366 °C and there was an increase in the char yield from 32.6% to 45.3% for the above systems. The corrosion performance of epoxy coated carbon steel was examined by potentiodynamic polarization, along with immersion test in 1.0 mol/L hCl solution. The results showed that epoxy resins cured with DAX had low tendency to corrosion. In addition, the cured epoxy resin containing 10% Fe3O4 had higher anticorrosion activity than bare DGEBA system. The results showed that functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticles enhanced char formation and improved the thermal stability as well as anticorrosion activity of the resin.

Ischemic stroke continues to be a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the world. Despite recent advances in the field of stroke medicine, thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator remains as the only pharmacological therapy for stroke patients. however, due to short therapeutic window(4.5 hours of stroke onset) and increased risk of hemorrhage beyond this point, each year globally less than 1% of stroke patients receive this therapy which necessitate the discovery of safe and efficacious therapeutics that can be used beyond the acute phase of stroke. Accumulating evidence indicates that endothelial progenitor cells(EPCs), equipped with an inherent capacity to migrate, proliferate and differentiate, may be one such therapeutics. however, the limited availability of EPCs in peripheral blood and early senescence of few isolated cells in culture conditions adversely affect their application as effective therapeutics. Given that much of the EPC-mediated reparative effects on neurovasculature is realized by a wide range of biologically active substances released by these cells, it is possible that EPC-secretome may serve as an important therapeutic after an ischemic stroke. In light of this assumption, this review paper firstly discusses the main constituents of EPC-secretome that may exert the beneficial effects of EPCs on neurovasculature, and then reviews the currently scant literature that focuses on its therapeutic capacity.

Correlates of h.alth Locus of Control among Patients Diagnosed with Type-II Diabetes Mellitus

Background: The comorbidity between chronic physical conditions and psychosocial h.alth became common interest for h.alth professional and researchers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among h.alth locus of control, self efficacy, and demographic factors in patients with type-II diabetes mellitus. Method: Data were collected using cross-sectional, correaltional design from 793 patients with type-II diabetes in regards to h.alth locus of control (hLOC) self-efficacy, and biomarkers. Results: The mean score for the internal subscale of hLOC was 27.2 (SD = 6.32), for the powerful others subscale of hLOC it was 30.9 (SD = 5.7), and for chance subscale of hLOC it was 18.6 (SD = 6.8). The mean total score of locus of control scale was 76.8 (SD = 13.1) ranging from 19 to 132. The mean score of hbA1C was 7.5 (SD = 2.6). Patients had moderate to high perception of powerful other h.alth locus of control, and self efficacy. Results also showed that locus of control had positive and significant correlation with self efficacy (r = 0.18, p > 0.01) and negative relationship with hbA1C (r = -0.11, p > 0.01). On the other hand, age has no significant correlation with h.alth locus of control. Conclusion: h.alth care professionals need to enhance patient’s self-efficacy and internal power of their patients for better h.alth outcomes. Nurses and other h.alth professionals need to emphasize the psychosocial h.alth aspects of patients with chronic illnesses, and in particular, those diagnosed with type-II diabetes mellitus.

The loss of balance between the antagonistic activities of angiotensin II AT1/AT2 receptors has been impli-cated as a major mediator in the development of hypertension and progressive nephropathy in expe-rimental diabetes. The present study was designed to investigate the potential of garlic to modulate the level of expression of the AT2 receptor in the adrenal and renal tissues of diabetic rats. Three groups of rats were studied after 8 weeks following diabetes induction: normal, streptozotocin-induced diabetic (control diabetic), and garlic-treated diabetic rats. A polyclonal antibody of proven specificity to the AT2 receptor, as verified by Western blotting and emplo- yed in immunohistochemical assays, indicated that compared to normal rats, the highest adrenocortical AT2 receptor expression was significantly shifted from the zona glomerulosa to the zona fasciculate/ reticularis, and was significantly reduced in adrenomedul- lary chromaffin cells of control diabetic rats. In the kidney, STZ treatments were associated with a signi- ficant decrease in AT2 receptor expression throughout glomeruli and all cortical and medullary tubular segments. Compared to control diabetic rats, the labeling of the AT2 receptor in the garlic-treated diabetic group was restored among adrenocortical zona glomerulosa cells and adrenomedullary chromaffin cells and significantly reduced in the zona fasiculata, and was also restored in glomeruli and throughout renal cortical and medullary tubular segments, to le- vels comparable to those observed in normal rats. The capacity of garlic to modulate diabetes-induced AT2 receptor down-regulation may be implicated in restoring the recuperative processes mediated by AT2 receptors, which interfere with the development of hypertension and nephropathy.

Nurses Perception towards Determinants of Turnover in Psychiatric and General hospital, Makkah Province

Background: Nurses leaving the profession are of concern to the government. This turnover can take the form of leakage and waste of both human and financial resources for governments that spend money on training nurses. Little is known about the intention to stay or determinants of job satisfaction among nurses in the Makkah region of Saudi Arabia. Aims: The study explores the determinants of intention to stay, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and self-efficacy among nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed, with a total of 175 nurses in the period between March 2017-July 2017. Results: No statistically significant differences were identified in intention to stay, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and self-efficacy between the psychiatric and the general nurses. A significant correlation was found between nationality, education and income, and intention to stay, job satisfaction, organization commitment and self-efficacy (p Conclusions: The study added various determinants of nurse turnover to the existing body of knowledge, relating to the factors concerning intention to stay, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and self-efficacy amongst general and psychiatric nurses.
