Acrylicacid was grafted onto chitosan by using the ceric ammonium nitrate as the initiator. The effect of initiator concentration, monomer concentration, time & temperature on % G and % GE were studied. The grafted samples were characterized using FTIR, TGA, SEM and XRD methods. From the FTIR data it was ascertained that grafting has occurred considerably. The morphology of the grafted polymer was observed from the SEM picture. The thermal analysis indicated the different stages of degradation of the grafted copolymer. Evidence of grafting was obtained from comparison of SEM, XRD, and FTIR of the grafted and nongrafted chitosan as well as solubility characteristics of the products. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of the grafted polymer have also been investigated.

Bacteriophages are viruses that infect bacteria and can choose any one of the two alternative pathways for infection,i.e.,lysis or *** lysis is one of the conventional biological processes required to spread infection from one bacterium to *** analysis suggests that in the paradigm bacteriophage Mu,six proteins might be involved in host cell *** has a broad host range,and Mu-like phages were found in both Gram-negative and Gram-positive *** analysis of the genomes of Mu and Mu-like phages could be useful in elucidating the lysis mechanism in this group of phages.A detailed review of the various mechanisms of phage lysis and different proteins associated with the process will help researchers understand the phage biology and their life cycle in different *** recent increase in the number of multidrug-resistant(MDR)strains of bacteria and the usual long-term nature of new drug development has encouraged scientists to look for alternative strategies like phage therapy and the discovery of new lysis *** the lysis mechanism in the Mu-like phages could be exploited to develop alternative therapeutics to kill drug-resistant pathogenic *** this review article,we have analyzed the phage Mu-mediated host lysis system,which is unknown till now,and our analysis indicates a possibility of the existence of a new lysis mechanism operating in Mu.

Background and Aims: Lifestyle (exercise and dietary) modification is the mainstay of treatment for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, there is paucity of data on effect of intensity of exercise in management of NAFLD, and we aimed to study the effect of variable intensities of exercise on NAFLD. Methods: The study was performed in the Department of Gastroenterology of the SCB Medical Col-lege, Cuttack and the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy, Bhu-baneswar. The subjects were police trainees [18 in a moderate intensity exercise group (MIG) and 19 in a low in-tensity exercise group (LIG)] recruited for a 6-month physical training course (261.8 Kcalorie, 3.6 metabolic equivalent in MIG and 153.6 Kcalorie, 2.1 metabolic equivalent in LIG). NAFLD was diagnosed by ultrasonography, with exclusion of all secondary causes of steatosis. All participants were eval-uated by anthropometry (weight, height, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference), assessed for blood pressure and biochemical parameters (blood glucose, liver function test, lipid profile, serum insulin), and subjected to transabdo-minal ultrasonography before and after 6 months of physical training, and the results were compared. Results: Both the groups had similar BMI, fasting plasma glucose, AST, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, insulin, and homeostatic model as-sessment-insulin resistance (known as HOMA-IR) (p>0.05). However, subjects in the LIG were older and had lower alanine transaminase, higher triglycerides and lower high-density lip-oproteins than MIG subjects. There was a significant reduc-tion in BMI (27.0±2.1 to 26.8±2.0;p=0.001), fasting blood glucose (106.7±21.6 to 85.8±19.0;p<0.001), serum trigly-cerides (167.5±56.7 to 124.6±63.5;p=0.017), total choles-terol (216.8±29.2 to 196.7±26.6;p=0.037), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (134.6±21.4 to 130.5±21.9;p=0.010), serum aspartate transaminase (39.3±32.2 to 30.9±11.4;p<0.001), serum alanine transaminase (56.6 ±28.7 to 33.0±11.3;p<0.

Scarcity of water and emission of greenhouse gases(GHGs)are the two key environmental issues affecting crop production in *** the carbon footprint(CF)and water footprint(WF)of crop production can help to mitigate the environmental hazards that stem from GHG emissions and water *** CFs and WFs of three major cereal crops,rice,wheat,and maize,were estimated for the year 2014 under the environmental conditions in India,based on national statistics and other data *** CFs(TCFs)of rice,wheat,and maize in India were estimated to be 2.44,1.27,and 0.80 t CO_(2)equivalent ha-1,respectively,and product WFs for rice,wheat,and maize in India were 3.52,1.59,and 2.06 m3 kg^(-1),*** WF was found to be the highest in West India for rice and in South India for both wheat and maize,with the highest irrigation water use in these *** was a positive correlation between TCF and total WF,and hence mitigation of both was possibly simultaneous in various regions in *** measures for mitigating GHG emissions and optimizing water use for rice,wheat,and maize production in India are recommended in this paper.

Viper bite envenomation represents a significant occupational hazard among agricultural workers in *** viper bite envenomation is usually suspected when a patient presents with predominant local symptoms at the bitten site,including pain,swelling,and ***,systemic findings such as diffuse intravascular coagulation,hypotension,and shock may alert physicians of viper bite envenomation rather than a neurotoxic snake ***,cerebral complications are rare in viper bites but may potentially *** nervous system involvement in a viper bite is either due to neurotoxins or hemorrhagins present in the venom,which may induce cerebral thrombosis,ischemia,infarction,and *** we present a case of a previously healthy adult male who succumbed to extensive subarachnoid,intracerebral,and intraventricular hemorrhages involving bilateral cerebral hemispheres following viper snake bite *** report highlights the importance of anticipating cerebral complications in viper bite envenomation,a rare *** also emphasizes the need for early antisnake venom administration to prevent and control systemic envenomation and its complications.

Irrigated pinto bean crop stress and yield assessment using ground based low altitude remote sensing technology

The pinto bean is one of widely consumed legume crop that constitutes over 42%of the U.S dry bean ***,limited studies have been conducted in past to assess its quantitative and qualitative yield *** remote sensing technologies can help in such ***,this study evaluates the role of ground-based multispectral imagery derived vegetation indices(VIs)for irrigated the pinto bean stress and yield *** were eight cultivars of the pinto bean grown under conventional and strip tillage treatments and irrigated at 52%and 100%of required *** data was acquired using a five-band multispectral imager at early,mid and late growth *** used 25 broadband VIs were derived to capture crop stress traits and yield *** component analysis and Spearman’s rank correlation tests were conducted to identify key VIs and their correlation(rs)with abiotic stress at each growth *** difference vegetation index,nonlinear vegetation index(NLI),modified NLI and infrared percentage vegetation index(IPVI)were consistent in accounting the stress response and crop yield at all growth stages(rs>0.60,coefficient of determination(R2):0.50–0.56,P<0.05).Ten other VIs significantly accounted for crop stress at early and late ***,identified key VIs may be helpful to growers for precise crop management decision making and breeders for crop stress response and yield assessments.

Revised national tuberculosis control programme in India has limited co-hort-wise information about what happens to patients diagnosed with multidrug resistant TB (MDR-TB). We determined the pre-treatment loss to follow-up (non-initiation of treatment by programme within 6 months of diagnosis) and time from diagnosis to treatment initiation in Bhopal district, central India (2014). Pre-treatment loss to follow-up was 13% (0.95 CI: 7%, 23%), not significantly different from the national estimates (18%) and median time to initiate treatment was seven days, lower than that reported elsewhere in the country. Bhopal was performing well with reference to time to treatment initiation in programmatic settings.

Purpose Common peroneal nerve palsy is quite disabling and every effort should be made to prevent its injury during the *** We retrospectively reviewed the prospectively collected data of 7 cases of tibial plateau fractures in association with proximal fibula fracture from January 2019 to September 2019 who presented to emergency room of our *** In addition to fibular neck fracture,the first case had type 6 tibial plateau displaced fracture and the second case had displaced acetabular fracture with instability of knee with tibial tuberosity *** peroneal nerve palsy developed following application of distal tibial skeletal traction in both the *** 6 such cases remained neurologically intact as traction was not applied to *** Such iatrogenic complication could have been prevented if the injury pattern of"concomitant medial and lateral columns"of the proximal leg is kept in mind by the treating surgeon before applying skeletal traction.

In the current study,the effect of flyash(FA)on the physic-mechanical,electrical,thermal and morphological behavior of nylon-66(PA)was ***/FA composites were prepared by melt mixing via twin screw ex-truder,with varying weight percent(5 wt%,10 wt%,15 wt%and 20 wt%)of *** results of composites were optimized and compared with vir-gin *** and electrical properties of composites improved up to 10 wt%of FA loading without compromising the *** fly-ash filled nylon-66 composites showed a low abrasive wear *** the heat distortion temperature of composites with an increase in weight percent of flyash while opposing the melt flow *** filler enhances the stiffness of plastics but significantly reduces the impact ***-persion of flyash was examined by impact fracture surface of composites using a scanning electron microscope.
