Chronic stress-induced depression is a common hallmark of many psychiatric disorders with high morbidity rate.Stress-induced dysregulation of noradrenergic system has been implicated in the pathogenesis of depression.Lack of monoamine in the brain has been believed to be the main causative factor behind pathophysiology of major depressive disorder（MDD） and several antidepressants functions by increasing the monoamine level at the synapses in the brain.However,it is undetermined whether the noradrenergic receptor stimulation is critical for the therapeutic effect of antidepressant.Contrary to noradrenergic receptor stimulation,it has been suggested that the desensitization of β-adrenoceptor is involved in the therapeutic effect of antidepressant.In addition,enhanced noradrenaline（NA） release is central response to stress and thought to be a risk factor for the development of MDD.Moreover,fast acting antidepressant suppresses the hyperactivation of noradrenergic neurons in locus coeruleus（LC）.However,it is unclear how they alter the firing activity of LC neurons.These inconsistent reports about antidepressant effect of NA-reuptake inhibitors（NRIs） and enhanced release of NA as a stress response complicate our understanding about the pathophysiology of MDD.In this review,we will discuss the role of NA in pathophysiology of stress and the mechanism of therapeutic effect of NA in MDD.We will also discuss the possible contributions of each subtype of noradrenergic receptors on LC neurons,hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis（HPA-axis） and brain derived neurotrophic factor-induced hippocampal neurogenesis during stress and therapeutic effect of NRIs in MDD.

Through-silicon vias （TSVs） have provided an attractive solution for three-dimensional （3D） integrated devices and circuit technologies with reduced parasitic losses and power dissipation, higher input-output （I/O） den- sity and improved system performance. This paper investigates the propagation delay and average power dissipation of single-walled carbon nanotube bundled TSVs having different via radius and height. Depending on the physical configuration, a comprehensive and accurate analytical model of CNT bundled TSV is employed to represent the via （vertical interconnect access） line of a driver-TSV-load （DTL） system. The via radius and height are used to estimate the bundle aspect ratio （AR） and the cross-sectional area. For a fixed via height, the delay and the power dissipation are reduced up to 96.2% using a SWCNT bundled TSV with AR = 300 ： 1 in comparison to AR = 6：1.

In a recent study published in Cellular and Molecular Immunology,Jaiswal et al.demonstrated the importance of microRNA-99a(miR-99a)in adipose tissue inflammation and macrophage phenotype activation[1].In this study,miR-99a mimics inhibited the M1 macrophage phenotype and adipose tissue inflammation by targeting TNFα,which was accompanied by an improvement in diabetic dyslipidemia and insulin signaling[2].This study highlights the therapeutic importance of miR-99a in metabolic diseases in which inflammation is a key player.

This study computationally investigates the hydrodynamics of different serpentine flow field designs for redox flow batteries,which considers the Poiseuille flow in the flow channel and the Darcy flow porous substrate.Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)results of the in-house developed code based on Finite Volume Method(FVM)for conventional serpentine flow field(CSFF)agreed well with those obtained via experiment.The deviation for pressure drop(ΔP)was less than 5.1%for all the flow rates,thus proving the present CFD analysis’s validity on the modified variation of serpentine flow fields.Modified serpentine flow field-2(MSFF2)design provided least pressure drop across the channel and maximum velocity penetration across the porous substrate when compared to the other designs.This increases its wetting ability,which is very important in terms of mass transfer over potential for electrochemical reaction happening in the porous substrate to achieve effective electrochemical cell performance.

Wavefront sensing is the simultaneous measurement of the amplitude and phase of an incoming optical field.Traditional wavefront sensors such as Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor(SHWFS)suffer from a fundamental tradeoff between spatial resolution and phase estimation and consequently can only achieve a resolution of a few thousand pixels.To break this tradeoff,we present a novel computational-imaging-based technique,namely,the Wavefront Imaging Sensor with High resolution(WISH).We replace the microlens array in SHWFS with a spatial light modulator(SLM)and use a computational phase-retrieval algorithm to recover the incident wavefront.This wavefront sensor can measure highly varying optical fields at more than 10-megapixel resolution with the fine phase estimation.To the best of our knowledge,this resolution is an order of magnitude higher than the current noninterferometric wavefront sensors.To demonstrate the capability of WISH,we present three applications,which cover a wide range of spatial scales.First,we produce the diffraction-limited reconstruction for long-distance imaging by combining WISH with a large-aperture,low-quality Fresnel lens.Second,we show the recovery of high-resolution images of objects that are obscured by scattering.Third,we show that WISH can be used as a microscope without an objective lens.Our study suggests that the designing principle of WISH,which combines optical modulators and computational algorithms to sense high-resolution optical fields,enables improved capabilities in many existing applications while revealing entirely new,hitherto unexplored application areas.

The present work aims to demonstrate the capabilities of Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy(LIBS)coupled with a multivariate technique for rapid quantification and classification of old Indian coins made of various alloys.Thirteen old Indian coins in different years of circulation,(1922–1986)were selected for the study.The concentrations were determined by Calibration free LIBS(CF-LIBS)method.The concentration of cuprum(Cu)is negligible,and aluminum(Al)is maximum in the first five coins,and vice-versa in the remaining eight coins.Two different multivariate methods,Principal Component Analysis(PCA)and Soft Independent Modelling of Class Analogy(SIMCA)have been used to classify and identify the coins.PCA classified all thirteen samples into four main alloy categories.The discernment of unknown samples to their probable class membership of alloy was performed using SIMCA.The surface hardness(Brinell hardness number)is linearly correlated with the plasma temperature and LIBS intensity ratios.The sample surface of the first and fifth coin belongs to Al-alloy,having the least surface hardness,and it became harder for Cu–Ni alloy,Ni-brass alloy,and bronze alloy.The hardness of the surface is more for bronze sample twelve.It is also observed that the plasma temperature increases monotonically with the Brinell hardness number.This analysis provides valuable information on fabrication methodology and explains large diversification in the elementary composition of old coins.

EUS-guided Gall Bladder Drainage in Severe Liver Disease: A Single-center Experience in Critically Ill Cirrhotics

Background and Aims:Acute calculous cholecystitis with impending gall bladder perforation in severe liver diseases including decompensated cirrhosis and acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF)is difficult to manage,due to the procedures such as cholecystectomy and percutaneous cholecystostomy being associated with high risk and complications in these patients.Methods:Four cases of severe liver disease with acute calculous cholecystitis who presented to the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences(New Delhi,India)for further management were included in the study if they underwent endoscopic ultrasound-guided gall bladder drainage(EUS-GBD).The patients were followed up for a minimum of 3 months and outcomes were recorded.Results:Four cases of severe liver disease(three ACLF and one decompensated cirrhosis),with model for end-stage liver disease scores of 24,26,23 and 25 respectively,presented with acute calculous cholecystitis(Tokyo grade III)and systemic sepsis(high total leukocyte counts).Their international normalized ratios were 2.3,2.6,2.2 and 2.9 respectively,and two were in shock,requiring inotropes at presentation.Ultrasonography of the abdomen confirmed hugely distended gall bladder with stone impacted at the neck and moderate ascites.All these cases underwent EUS-GBD by linear echo endoscope,and had the gastric wall punctured in the antrum using a 19G access needle followed by dilatation of the tract using controlled radial expansion balloon and Sohendra dilator.In three cases,the plastic stents were placed.In the fourth case,a Nagi stent was placed.All the patients recovered and were discharged within a week.Conclusions:EUS-GBD is challenging in severe liver disease but represents a life-saving procedure,and hence can be attempted in such critically ill patients with utmost care and precaution.

IEEE 802.16j MMR WiMAX network introduces multi-hop relay architecture, which involves cooperative relay stations focusing on increasing the network throughput and coverage. Relay selection algorithms can be used to choose the optimal relay, which help in reducing the computational complexity during the signal processing operation of the wireless network. In this research work, a conventional Amplify-Forward (AF)/Decode-Forward (DF) assisted multi-relay IEEE 802.16j WiMAX network is considered. The effects of relay selection algorithms on the performance metrics such as Symbol Error Rate (SER) and channel capacity are investigated in detail through simulation-based study. Further, the performance of this network utilizing the proposed relay selection algorithms, namely threshold based max_min and threshold based harmonic mean of SNR, are compared with the existing max_min and harmonic mean of SNR based algorithms. Standard diversity combining techniques such as Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) and Selection Combining (SC) are used for combining the transmitted signal at the receiver. In addition, the impact of relay locations on the performance metrics are explored. It is observed that both the proposed threshold based max_min and threshold based harmonic mean of SNR based relay selection algorithms outperform the max_min and harmonic mean of SNR based algorithms, as both the SER and channel capacity for the considered multi-relay WiMAX network is improved significantly. Further, this extensive study and analysis will be beneficial for the design of MMR WiMAX networks.

Tribology of WC reinforced SiC ceramics: Influence of counterbody

Hot pressed silicon carbide(SiC) composites prepared with 0, 10, 30 or 50 wt% tungsten carbide(WC) are subjected to dry sliding wear against WC-Co and steel ball. In particular an attempt has been made to answer the following important questions:(i) How does the load(from 5 to 20 N) effect sliding wear behaviour of SiC-ceramics against WC-Co and steel counterbodies?(ii) Is there any effect of WC content on friction and wear characteristics of SiC ceramics?(iii) Does the dominant material removal mechanism of SiC ceramics change with the addition of WC or counterbody?(iv) What is the influence of mechanical properties on the sliding wear? Experimental results indicated that coefficient of friction(COF) for the SiC ceramics varied between 0.66 and 0.33 with change in load and counterbodies. Wear volume for SiC ceramics found approximately 6-10 times more against WC-Co as compared against steel. Wear volume changes from 2.0 × 10^(–3)mm^3 to 1.2 × 10^(–2)mm^3 with change in counterbodies for SiC -(10, 30 or 50 wt%) WC composite at 20 N. SiC ceramics indicated abrasion and composites reveal tribochemical wear as major material removal mechanisms. Wear is influenced by the hardness of counterbody and fracture toughness of SiC -WC composites.
