Alteration of somatostatin receptor subtype 2 gene expression in pancreatic tumor angiogenesis

AIM: To explore the difference of somatostatin receptor subtype 2 (SST2R) gene expression in pancreatic cancerous tissue and its adjacent tissue, and the relationship between the change of SST2R gene expression and pancreatic tumor angiogenesis related genes. METHODS: The expressions of SST2R, DPC4, p53 and ras genes in cancer tissues of 40 patients with primary pancreatic cancer, and the expression of SST2R gene in its adjacent tissue were determined by immunohistochemiscal LSAB method and EnVisionTM method. Chi-square test was used to analyze the difference in expression of SST2R in pancreatic cancer tissue and its adjacent tissue, and the correlation of SST2R gene expression with the expression of p53, ras and DPC4 ***: Of the tissue specimens from 40 patients with primary pancreatic cancer, 35 (87.5%) cancer tissues showeda negative expression of SST2R gene, whereas 34 (85%) a positive expression of SST2R gene in its adjacent tissues. Five (12.5%) cancer tissues and its adjacent tissues simultaneously expressed SST2R. The expression of SST2R gene was markedly higher in pancreatic tissues adjacent to cancer than in pancreatic cancer tissues (P0.05). CONCLUSION: There was a significant difference of SST2R gene expression in pancreatic cancer tissues and its adjacent tissues, which might be one cause for the different therapeutic effects of somatostatin and its analogs on pancreatic cancer patients. There were abnormal expressions of SST2R, DPC4, p53 and ras genes in pancreatic carcinogenesis, and moreover, the loss or decrease of SST2R gene expression was significantly negatively correlated with the overexpression of tumor angiogenesis correlated p53 and ras genes, suggesting that SST2R gene togethe

Quantitative analysis of irrigation water productivity in the middle reaches of Heihe River Basin, Northwest China

With the growing shortage of surface water resources,it is of great significance for improving the irrigation water productivity(IWP)to ensure the water and food *** contribution of the driving factors of the IWP and the rational regulation of the input factors of agricultural production is *** this paper,118 and 80 sampling points were selected in Pingchuan and Liaoquan irrigation districts(PLID,the spacing of sampling point is approximately 1 km)and the middle reaches of the Heihe River basin(MHRB,the spacing of sampling point is approximately 10 km),*** characteristics and management measures near the sampling points were *** showed that the average value of the IWP in MHRB was 1.67 kg/m3,with a moderate heterogeneity in the *** main driving factors of IWP were irrigation,fertilization and planting *** the PLID,the contribution rates of soil factors and management measures to IWP were 20.6%and 35.2%,respectively,and the contribution of soil factors to IWP increased to 43.8%in the MHRB,while the contribution rate of management measures decreased to 24.8%.It shows that in a small irrigation districts,from the perspective of farmers,the improvement of IWP should be mainly controlled by management measures,while in the large area of watershed scale,the spatial differences in soil factors also need to be considered by the government management departments,when they want to increase IWP through regulating management measures.

Expression of TREM-1 mRNA in acute pancreatitis

AIM: To explore the expression of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells (TREM-I) mRNA in acute pancreatitis (AP).METHODS: Using the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), we examined the expression of TREM-1 mRNA in 10 cases of mild acute pancreatitis (MAP), 8 cases of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), and 10 cases of healthy control subjects. And we also examined the expression of TREM-1 mRNA in 14 cases of AP (including 10 MAP and 4 SAP) before treatment, after successful therapy and clinically ***: The expression of TREM-1 mRNA in the groups of MAP, SAP patients and healthy control subjects was 0.771±0.274, 1.092±0.331 and 0.459±0.175, respectively;there was a significant difference among the three groups (P<0.05). And there was also a significant difference between the AP patients (0.914±0.341) and healthy control subjects (0.459+0.175) (P<0.05). Moreover, in the 14 cases of AP, before treatment, after successful therapy and clinically cured, the expression of TREM-1 mRNA was 0.905±0.226,0.739±0.169 and 0.633±0.140, respectively, and there was a significant difference among the three stages (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The expression of TREM-1 mRNA in the patients with AP increases obviously, and correlates with the degree of AP. Furthermore, the expression of TREM-1 mRNA is distinctly different at the different stages of AP. It indicates TREM-1 may play an important role in the occurrence and development of AP.

Hippophae rhamnoides *** a plant of immense ethnopharmacological importance and is a known source for various valuable biochemicals and *** production of folate,a vitamin involved in several vital functions,in this plant is rather poorly ***,we investigate the hypothesis that rhizobial bacteria serve the plant in this essential vitamin’s *** strains of Bacillus,Azorhizobium,Frankia,Paenibacillus,Brevibacillus and Pseudomonas,were isolated from the rhizosphere of the *** and LCMS were used to trace the production of intra and extra-cellular folate by representative rhizospheric bacterial strains in *** the seventeen functionally characterized bacterial strains of the plant’s rhizosphere,thirteen produced significant amounts of *** BR5401 produced the maximum amount of folic acid(424μg/mL),and Bacillus GY779 was the only strain capable of producing both intracellular and extra-cellular folic *** Open Reading Frame coding for dihydroneopterin aldolase,an enzyme involved in folate biosynthesis,was found in one of the representative *** experimental findings help us to suggest that the folate synthesized by rhizobial bacteria is transported to the plant,highlighting a significant benefit of coexistence.

Transition from open to robotic assisted liver resection:A retrospective comparative *** experience of laparoscopic liver resections needed?

Objective:The authors present outcomes of robotic liver resections in comparison with open technique questioning the need to have experience of laparoscopy for such procedures before transition to robotic *** and methods:Retrospective review of liver resections done robotically from February 2015 to June 2017 compared to matched control cohort of open cases from January 2012 to December ***:Twenty-one patients in the study groupwere comparedwithmatched control of 42 open cases(1:2 ratio).The types of procedure were similar in both the *** were 4 left lateral hepatectomy,3 left hepatectomy,and 1 left hepatectomy with hepatico-jejunostomy,3 right hepatectomy,3 right posterior sectorectomy,4 bisegmentectomy and 4 *** were 9 patients with primary liver cancer,2 each with livermetastasis and carcinoma gall bladder and 8 patients had benign liver *** blood losswas 370±311ml in the robotic group compared to 451±330ml in control group(p=0.06).Minor complications developed in 19.0%of robotic cases compared to 40.5%in open surgery,while major complications occurred in 4.7%of robotic cases compared to 7.1%of open *** hospital staywas 5.3±0.8 days for the robotic group and 7.7±4.2 days for open group(p=0.02).Local tumor recurrence occurred in 1 out of 13 resections done for malignancy in the robotic group and 7 out of 26 in the open ***:This study highlights the utility of surgical robots for segmental and complex liver resections with equivalent outcomes and decreased length of hospital stay compared to open surgery without having experience of same with the laparoscopy.

Studies on Chromate Removal by Chromium-Resistant Bacillus sp. Isolated from Tannery Effluent

A chromate-removing strain was isolated from spent chrome effluent and identified as Bacillus circulans strain MN1. The isolated strain was studied for resistance to Cr (VI) and its ability to remove Cr (VI). The strain was found to tolerate Cr (VI) concentration as high as 4500 mg/L, but the cells growth was heavily influenced when initial Cr (VI) concentration was increased between 1110 mg/L and 4500 mg/L while Cr(VI) at 500 mg/L to 1110 mg/L did not suppressed the cells growth. The experiments also demonstrated that the cells removed toxic Cr (VI) more efficiently at 30?C compared with that at 25?C and 35?C. The optimum initial pH for Cr (VI) removal was 5.6 and final pH values of 5.1-5.6 were observed for initial pH 5.2-5.7.

Combination of pegylated interferon and lamivudine for patients with chronic hepatitis B who have failed treatment

BACKGROUND: Treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) alone with interferon or lamivudine alone or in combination is effective in only a small proportion of patients. Treatment of patients in whom antiviral therapy fails is challenging. This study was made to determine the efficacy of combined pegylated interferon alpha (peg-IFN) and lamivudine in patients with CHB who had failed to respond to antiviral treatment. METHODS: Twenty patients with CHB proven by liver biopsy, with ALT levels >1.5×ULN,HBV DNA levels>141 500 copies/ml, and previous treatment failure with an adequate regimen were treated with a combination of peg-IFN 1.5μg/kg and lamivudine 100 mg/day for 52 weeks and followed up for a further 24 weeks. Biochemical response was defined as normalization of ALT and DNA response as HBV DNA<141 500 copies/ml. Secondary efficacy measures included HBsAg loss, HBeAg loss and appearance of anti-HBe (in cases of HBeAg-positive patients). RESULTS: Twenty patients were treated, of whom 16 were HBeAg positive. At 52 weeks, normal ALT was seen in 10 (50%) (8 of 16 HBeAg+ and 2 of 4 HBeAg), HBV DNA response in 5 (25%) (5 of 16 in HBeAg+ and none in HBeAg-), and HBeAg loss with appearance of anti-HBe in 5 (31.3%) of the 16 HBeAg positive patients. At 76 weeks, 8 (80%) of the 10 patients with normal ALT at 52 weeks relapsed, with normal ALT only in 2 (10%) (1 of 16 HBeAg+ and 1 of 4 HBeAg-), and all 5 patients who had a DNA response at 52 weeks relapsed at 76 weeks and had no DNA response. HBeAg loss with appearance of anti-HBe was seen in 1 (6.3%) of 16 HBeAg-positive patients. None of the patients lost HBsAg. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of peg-IFN and lamivudine for 52 weeks is not effective for treatment of CHB patients with a failed treatment. New treatment strategies need to be developed.

Cryptographic Schemes Based on Elliptic Curves over the Ring Zp[i]

Elliptic Curve Cryptography recently gained a lot of attention in industry. The principal attraction of ECC compared to RSA is that it offers equal security for a smaller key size. The present paper includes the study of two elliptic curve and defined over the ring where . After showing isomorphism between and , we define a composition operation (in the form of a mapping) on their union set. Then we have discussed our proposed cryptographic schemes based on the elliptic curve . We also illustrate the coding of points over E, secret key exchange and encryption/decryption methods based on above said elliptic curve. Since our proposed schemes are based on elliptic curve of the particular type, therefore the proposed schemes provides a highest strength-per-bit of any cryptosystem known today with smaller key size resulting in faster computations, lower power assumption and memory. Another advantage is that authentication protocols based on ECC are secure enough even if a small key size is used.
